Totally agree with you regarding the rhythm band although Jack Payne's treatment is still my favourite version!

I suppose only the Brits would think "farce" and "grass" rhymed. 😄 Lovely record nonetheless.

Actually, away from the south-east and south of England, most people's pronunciation of 'grass' would not rhyme with 'farce'.

This is one of George Fisher's better recordings in that the arrangement is a bit less fussy than usual, allowing the music to flow nicely.(the musicianship is always very high on his records).Eddie sounds like he is singing whilst someone is strangling him at same time,or he has just inhaled a laughing gas cannister..His drumming was also quite mediocre, yet he did form a very fine band in 1931 at the café de paris???

Eddie always sounds nervous and unsure of the pitch; and he contributes nothing to the lyrics. Now, I have inadvertently identified someone worse than Maurice Elwin - the Singing Speak Your Weight Machine. To be honest, Jack Hylton is worse; but he's not a vocalist, he owns the band and who is going to challenge him about his singing?
