Thank you for all you do!!! I am rail fan who happens to now live in a part of the country with few railroads (the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas) but I still love trains. I used to have a very large model railroad when I lived in the Midwest but it was destroyed by a flood in 1992. I hope to start a new one here in the mountains (no flood risk!) in the near future. Happy New Year!

Hi As a regular subscriber to your channel (the best on u-tube) I have often wondered what you looked like. So it was great to see and hear you on this video. Needless to say you were nothing like I imagined. Having that said, perhaps this is a good time to tell you how much I appreciate your channel. Although it’s all about trains, it’s nice to see the American countryside. I think as with Arron Benson, 7Idea you have just the right mix and skill. Another plus for me is the loco identification that is flashed up as are the interesting snippets of information in the left hand corner. So much better than, either an over enthusiastic or a thoroughly bored commentator. Before I found you the 7Idea format used to spoil me for rail videos but now I have a u-tube channel on equal par and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. Look forward to 2019 with you. All the very best. Mick.

I just love trains, even if I am old. My question: if I find three or four engines, ahead of the wagons, I assume they are all with running engines, too. Am I correct? Another thing, when I was in Canada, they put one engine up front, one engine in the middle and one at the end of the wagons. Which one is better, you think, Canadian Pacific? Or BNSF way of hitching wagons?
@mbmars015 жыл бұрын
Haha, being "old" is not an excuse for liking trains :) Yes and no. Not all engines in one consist are necessarily "on-line". Railroads often transfer locomotives from one region to another on regular trains. Locos somewhere in the middle or at the end are called "DPUs" (distributed power units) and are definitely powered. The purpose is to relax stress on the couplers and balance the braking effort throughout the train. This is a very common sight nowadays almost everywhere in the US as well.

Hope you guys have a good Christmas and happy holidays to you. How long did it take you to edit this video? Do u live around the Athens area. Have you ever been to Cartersville Georgia?
@mbmars015 жыл бұрын
I know you have watched many of my videos and can compare the different "seasons", but the last appears always be to be the "best". I actually had the feeling, I railfanned more location- than train-wise in 2018, which is also reflected by some of the trains occupying the high ranks. I didn't chase many of the special units. But I definitely like what I saw and it surely was a great year. Editing took several hours per day for an entire week... The answers to the other questions are "yes". Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year to you, too - and keep watching :)

I have totally come up blank with what will happen to UP4141 now. found one rumor that the prime mover and electrical systems will be removed and the rest will go on display at the museum but I doubt that, the lay out of the museum library has no place for it. the museum of the american rail road in Frisco Texas has the GG1 locomotive that pulled Robert Kennedy's funeral train 50 years and six months ago.
