Got a kick out of the Federal Railroad Administration train. 2 engines pulling one passenger car. That’s about right for the feds.

I am not too happy that your railfanning year seems to be over. Waiting to 2018 for more is too much to ask, but I will look forward to more mbmars01 in 2018. This video is superb much like all of your videos. What is consistent is the excellent choice of locations, often multiple for one train. Somehow you never seem to be surrounded by other railfans as I see in so many other videos. One might think that you are the lone videographer. And this video demonstrates that the Heritage paint schemes are far better than that offered by today's major roads, although I do like the KCS scheme. Thanks for these videos that are so enjoyable.

I know, the Christmas gift for the friends of my channel came a bit early this year, but I'll travel soon and wanted make sure I get this project done in time. Production (including the all-new intro!) took far more time than any of the other videos I made this year. I'm glad it worked out and people like watching it. It's funny you notice the lack of railfans. I sometimes do railfan with friends and they know very well how I'm filming. As you know, I like panning and covering all angles, so I have to find a position which enables unobstructed views. So I'm not "the lone wolf" out there :) I wish you Happy Holidays and a healthy, peaceful new year and I hope for some good catches in 2018 that I can present to my friends on this channel!

May I ask what Is a heritage locomotive please? Modern loco In now defunct livery?
@mbmars01
@mbmars01 3 жыл бұрын
All modern railroads have merged or absorbed former lines and operators, the so-called "fallen flags". Virtually all of the current railroads, most prominently Norfolk Southern, have heritage programs and, for example, paint some of their locomotives in the paint schemes of their predecessors.
@steveluckhurst2350

Sweet, I use iMovie and am thinking about upgrading to FInal Cut but I don't know if it's worth the money
@mbmars01
@mbmars01 6 жыл бұрын
FCPX has way more features, but the way to use it is very similar to iMovie. The one thing I really appreciate in FCPX are the more flexible options for image stabilization, which was not as satisfactory in iMovie. I'm producing 4k movies nowadays, but never did with iMovie, so I can't compare. To conclude, I cannot really make a suggestion, but if you intend to create more and more professional videos, you probably want to switch to Final Cut Pro one day.
@SpecificationR
@SpecificationR 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your videos. Is the image stabilization what I'm seeing when seemingly every train goes by there is some kind of blurriness or interlacing/ghosting that happens intermittently every 10 seconds or so?
@mbmars01
@mbmars01 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, you've got good eyes ;-) Stabilization works best for short sequences so I cut longer segments into about 10s pieces and stabilize them individually. To merge them again is a bit of an art, because they don't quite fit exactly anymore. I try to keep the "blurriness" that you mention at a minimum, but cannot avoid it entirely.

Great videos - we do not have trains like this in the UK. One thing that confuses me, why do some trains have both CSX and UP Engines? I thought that they were separate companies operating on separate lines
@mbmars01
@mbmars01 6 жыл бұрын
Since there are long-range trains that run on lines owned by different railroads, it is common to share locomotives at times, which is exciting for railfans. It would be much more inefficient to replace the locomotives at the interchange points.

Why do your trains make so much noise? Excessive horns on an obviously clear crossing which has both barriers and wigwags! I appreciate that it is probably s.o.p. but come on!
@mbmars01
@mbmars01 3 жыл бұрын
Well, it's not "my" trains :) They just do what they are supposed to do, namely blowing the horns at railroad crossings to warn anyone of their appearance. Sometimes an engineer might also blow the horn to greet the railfan trackside, though...
@steveluckhurst2350
@steveluckhurst2350 3 жыл бұрын
@@mbmars01 well, I didn't think that you owned them all! ☺ I should of course have said "your nation's trains"! Is there as set procedure at crossings? In the UK, they only sound the horn on the approach to unprotected crossings (our railway is fenced off from the public throughout the netwok).
