I have 3 of these scopes. I bought them directly from Monstrum as "Seconds" for $129. They have slight imperfections in the glass. But they still hold zero and all adjustments work. That said I do prefer 2nd focal plane fixed reticle for target acquisition at lower power.

Thanks Eric...The 6mm ARC is fun to shoot, no recoil, uses less powder, can shoot heavier, higher BC bullets for caliber than the .243 win. I don't think it will replace traditional Varmint (22-250, 243) chamberings but my be a fun "Chuckin' " type, plus medium game cartridge.

Time is limited for doing a video on KZbin. The Monstrum scope did a fine job as is evidenced by contributing the accuracy on targets. Only complaints is that the scope is "Long and Heavy". But all the tracking mechanics worked. Because it is a First Focal Plain scope, the reticle is too small at lower power for the intended use of ranging a target using lower power range of 6-10. Thanks for your question and for watching.

Love your rifle and shooting. I have been thinking of getting one of these, but with a 20 inch barrel. It will be interesting to see loss of velocity going from 24 down to 20 though. I am a fan of the 243 and also watched your video comparing it to the ARC. I love the concept of the 243 caliber bullet in the AR platform....Winner all the way round.
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009

Yes Jack there is a loss in velocity with commercial ammo. Approximately 25-30 fps per inch. I feel with smaller caliber bullets, for hunting, speed is your friend.
@stevenboggs5076

Great going. Some minor things to point out not to nitpick but hopefully to be helpful. First, the I don't think the cartridge will show pressure signs as it can take higher pressure than a typical AR15 pattern bolt, hence the lower SAAMI pressures listed for the ARC and the Grendel (a design fault, I may add). This is why one may come across the "extra velocity available from a bolt gun" mentioned on occasion in forums. To this end it was really smart of you to not go too far above factory if at all for your handloads presuming you used the same powder so as to not be over-pressure. Second, while this may break rules for AR, a bolt gun 24" will get 1000+ FPE energy with the Grendel at 500 yards. Yes, I imagine an ARC could do similar extended performance in a bolt gun. Over this distance, factory or "bolt-gun-enhanced", the Grendel maintains a "Killing Power Score" (ChuckHawks Model) over the ARC. I will also concede that KPS is just one of many possible models as is everything else. However, in this match-up I would rather take the one that is more forgiving in shot placement (higher KPS) between the two. Of course one can land perfect shots, but in my observation that is abnormal given most people's ability / training. In the end these two are really close but I give the Grendel a slight edge. Not trying to be a fanboy this is just the way I see it.
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 3 жыл бұрын
Steven, Thanks for your input...In previous videos I have made the comparison of the Grendel vs the ARC using only Hornady data with same or similar grain weight bullets 100gn-107gn... The Grendel is a great (higher KPS) with 120-130 grain bullets. But speed is necessary to maintain energy (minimum 1,000 foot pounds) that is recommended. The ARC intrigued me because of the newer, higher BC bullets developed for the 6mm and the long distance competitor as well as the DOD. According to published ballistic calculator data using my "velocity numbers in my rifles", the ARC maintains 1,000 ft pounds of energy to 500 yards

How do you like the first focal plane for smaller targets? Does the crosshair cover up the target more than a second focal plane?
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andy for your question. Actually it is at lower magnification that the reticle is very small and harder to acquire the center crosshair. The true value of the First focal plane scope is to be able to use the mils and subsets to determine the distance to target then adjust your DOPE accordingly. That takes practice and math to master.
