Vertical stringing of your first group is a great indicator your muzzel is jumping before the round fully leaves the barrel. Never seen a back to back comparison with and without a break like this before. Thanks for doing this test.

They can affect accuracy in different ways. Good or bad. It's how they affect the gases that push on the bullet.

@@ronniesmith9568 I've always used Smith Vortex and YHM Phantom Flash Hiders. I do have a couple SF WARCOMPs. I've never been a fan of Brakes even for AR10s or Competition. That's why I have the Warcomp. For my 6ARC I'm gonna do YHM QD Flash Hider for when the R2 RESONATOR-K gets out if jail
@SuperJlarge4 жыл бұрын
Ronnie Smith It’s more than that. For an AR, it definitely helps to control the rifle. In the video, the shooter was getting vertical stringing, which could have been due to not controlling the rifle during the firing sequence. The brake reduced muzzle rise, which reduced the vertical. The second effect is due to changing the harmonics of the barrel. Anytime you add weight to the muzzle of a barrel you will change the harmonics of the barrel.

I just happen to come across this again, definitely some vertical stringing there. This is a testament of how important recoil management is. As soon as you put the muzzle break on there is less recoil and your groups shrink and you lose the vertical stringing. With a proper rest you could shrink the groups even more.
@andy3474954 жыл бұрын
I would put money on that your rest is causing you some accuracy issues also.

I'd have to think shooting on bags or a foreward mounted bipod would yield a little better consistency without the brake. I know that's a nice rest you have there and the table probably isn't long enough for optimal foreward clamping but I know you could increase accuracy by changing the setup. Edit: I stopped the video to comment 10 seconds before you said the Arca rail was coming. Very nice.

Barrel harmonics matter. I dropped a 5/8x24 to 5/8x24 adapter between my flash hider and the barrel of my LR308, and it dropped the group size from ~1 MOA to 0.3 MOA.

KB is this the rig that Ray has permanently borrowed? Between the two of you I can see why. It is a very nice set up. 6 ARC has joined the party and it seems that all the boys want to take her out. I feel for 6.5 Creedmoor. She had climbed the mountain and was the darling , and now she's getting pushed aside. Sometimes on a hard surface/bench, the fore-end can jump during recoil. If not this, you have to check the free-floated bbl to make sure that there's no contact being made?... My guess is it's the fore-end jumping more due to more recoil without the brake...

Grrrrrrr!!!! Hopefully those reloads tighten up those groups!!! Good luck brother!!! as usual awesome video!!!😎😁 I'm going to wait a few years before I jump into 6arc. For me there's just not enough data and components available right now to make it worth my time. I have seen a ton of shity groups from Hornady Factory ammo for the 6arc. Just for fun you should pull one of the heads and weigh the powder charge. I'd be curious to see how much powder they're putting in those cases and what type of powder it is.
