Played around with a 243 LBC. Very similar to this cartridge. Found that LBC to be stupid accurate with handloads using 8208 XBR. This cartridge, now having support will take off. or, run a lighter bullet in 6.5 Grendel. The advantage is better mainstream support. Other than that, it's 6 in one-half dozen in the other with the Grendel. Grendel has steel case cheap ammo at least. 6mm ARC can also do really light bullets. im building a 6ARC, but its reallllly close to the same as Grendel.
@tyler61474 жыл бұрын
@Nick Rodriguez Please. Stop. You are displaying your foolishness. 168 grain ELD Match ammo has a BC of .523. Fired out of a 22" barrel it has an actual velocity of about 2600 fps. At 500 the hold over for the .308 is 3.4 mils vs 3.4 mils for the ARC with 108gr bullets. At 800 yards the .308 has a hold over of 7.3 mils vs 7.2 for the ARC. At 1000 yards the .308 has a 10.7 mil hold over vs 10.5 for the ARC. At 1,200 yards the .308 has a hold over of 14.9 mils vs 14.6 for the ARC. Note: The .308 is using actual velocities from a 22" barrel and the ARC is using actual velocities from a 16" barrel. That's an entire 6" less barrel for the ARC and it matches it step for step. If you compare equal barrel lengths of 16" vs 16" the .308 will get 2450 fps velocity and will get smoked every time by the ARC--all while running it a regular small frame AR.
@tyler61474 жыл бұрын
@C-Bomb Hornady didn't start any kind of an argument. They simply stated facts. Like I did above. That 108 grain round has very similar ballistics to a 22 inch barrel 308. It's just factual information that apparently some people don't understand or don't want to accept. Use any ballistics calculator you want and use real world data and post up what you get. In fact that goes for anyone trying to argue about it.
@JimYeats4 жыл бұрын
Tyler, I don’t think anyone is arguing that the 308 is the more efficient cartridge. We know it isn’t. I think the point C Bomb was making is simply that it is not an apples to apples comparison. No matter how efficient it is, no matter how accurate it is, no matter how high speed low drag it is, there are simply some applications where a 108gr bullet isn’t going to cut it. If your intended use is to make a setup that is the size of an AR15, have long range capabilities that - out of a 16” barrel - are about as good as a 308, and can still probably kill a man when it gets there...then you are right, the 6mm ARC may end up being your best option assuming it lives up to the hype and also provides good terminal ballistics in lots of real life testing. No one is going to grab a 108gr bullet to go hunt Elk with though. It doesn’t matter whether every box of 6mm ARC comes with a free hand job, a 108gr bullet using the same construction as a 168gr counterpart is not going to penetrate as deeply or reliably through tough tissue.
@MTCKIE684 жыл бұрын
@@JimYeats It's not made to be a big game hunting bullet. But that is coming. Hornady said they are doing some hunting rounds. The purpose of this is less weight than the AR10 with more rounds and better ballistics for the AR15. Better terminal results at 1000 to 1200 yards over the 5.56 with the same life for the barrel. Chill Out Boys !! Stop thinking like Democrats. LMAO !! This is going to be the Best thing for the AR15 platform. Mark My Words !!!

I fully believe this 6mm ARC is going to do for the MSR platform, what the 6.5 Creedmore did for the Bolt guns. True there are wildcat cartridges in 6mm made from the Grendel (also a great cartridge in its own) and it would have been easy for Hornady to go that route, but if you study the 6mm wildcats, the little extra space the (6mm AR for example) provide, it make the throat shorter and thus harder for longer more slender, higher BC bullets to seat properly and most efficiently. Plus having this SAAMI already with industry support. This caliber has legs and long ones.

For your first AR, 5.56/223 makes a lot of sense and is the most economical. The AR-15 lower platform can then be used for several chamberings (22 Nosler, 224 Valkyrie, 6.5 Grendel, 6mm ARC, 300 Blackout) by swapping uppers. The AR-10 platform is bigger and designed for longer cartridges like 7.62/308 and many others. Some parts are compatible across both platforms, some only fit one or the other, and some parts are specific to the cartridge. Generally, the AR-15 is less expensive, more versatile, and spares are more widely available, but they are close. You really need to start by determining your needs, your priorities, and your wants, then look at cartridges and that will determine which rifle.

I shoot a lot of Grendel and I’ve been waiting for someone to do this for a while. The bullet selection is way more than the Grendel and the velocity should be a little better. Ima keep my 12” and 18” Grendel but the 16” is getting a barrel swap to a faxon 18” 6mm arc barrel.

This is true. Most people with grendel wont switch over cause of wolf ammo. :) How ever I think 6mm might be a little cheaper to reload for. I have a gredel and love it. I am thinking about building a 6mm arc sbr for I think the ballistics might be better than the 6.5G. Only weak spot for 6.5g and 6arc is reliable mags. Even the known good one can be a hit or miss. I'm actually impressed that it has a velocity that good in a shorter barrel in light of a BC that high. Like the grendel this is going I really hold its speed well over distance, but unlike it it's going to start out with a lot more speed. Sure it's got less mass, but the 6.8 SPC and 300 blk have great reputations hunting with 110 gr bullets instead of 123s or 130s. And of course 77-110 gr bullets are fantastic on 2 legged critters.
