Bird Buddy Smart Bird Feeder Review - 6 Months Later

I just got one for Christmas from my Son and Daughter In Law and I absolutely love it ! I already have 3 post cards . Northern Cardinal ( male and female ) and a House Finch . I am on the fence about the subscription to BB Pro. I agree that all will love this thing !! Thanks for the video. It helped me with the app !

UPDATE -- I decided to upgrade to the BB Pro for $59.99 a year and I am not impressed. The only real benefit is being able to set the camera in " frenzy " mode. Which will get you more pictures . They claim they are in higher resolution in frenzy mode but I do not see a big difference . You can also invite 10 guests instead of 3 . Not worth the money in my opinion. I really enjoy this feeder but doubt i will renew my subscription. I added 2 small rechargeable motion detector lights I picked up on Amazon and it has been a game changer ! I have my feeder hanging on my deck and it hardly gets any sun because of large trees . The pictures were coming out too dark. With these lights , I have some amazing pictures of birds . Clear as day ! I attached them under each side of the roof with velcro . After recharging the lights several times I bought a double ended USB-C cable and I now just keep them plugged in to the outlet on the deck. No more recharging ! I have well over a hundred pictures now and have deleted as many . Including my nemesis , Mr Squirrel . I have pics of 28 different species . With spring here , I assume I will get pics of the birds that return from their winter retreat. One more thing about the feeder. The camera has AI built into it and tells you what species is in the photo. It is not always accurate. It has misidentified several birds several times. Because AI can " learn " , the app will ask YOU what the species is if it does not know. It will give you a multiple choice question and if the correct bird is there you select it and the app can learn that way. I think sometimes tech gets in the way of itself . Maintenance is easy. Wait until its empty and bring it in the house to clean it. It comes apart nicely making it easy to clean . DO NOT wash the camera. Wipe it down with a damp soft cloth . Thats it. I clean the lens with a Bounty paper towel. All in all , I am really enjoying this new hobby of mine .

Set it up now, as it can take a couple of weeks sometimes for birds to find it as well as feel comfortable using it.

Not me, but ours is up very high with no way for squirrels to get at it. But others have had squirrels on it. - Josh

I received a Bird Buddy as a gift at Christmas 2023 and I am still looking for a feeder pole that the BB pole adapter just sits down onto. Why make a product with an adapter that doesn't fit any of the standard feeder poles? Wild Birds Unlimited has a KZbin video explaining what they call a Pull Adapter that was made to mount their Sky Cafe feeder onto. It is supposed to be a perfect fit to sit the BB adapter into. However, the video explaining how to do that was posted just in 2023 and there is no place on WBU to order it. How frustrating! You failed, Bird Buddy manufacturer!

I took a 5” cut of a 4x4, drilled hole thru center slightly larger than my birdfeeder pole (using system from wild birds unlimited). Clamp in pole beneath wood block to keep it t desired height on pole. Screwed bracket to the block of wood. Works great and a bonus is it is adjustable on the pole! I agree, t is a shame they don’t make a better mounting system…..if I were to mount it to a post or tree, the squirrels would destroy it in no time at all. Had to mount out of reach of the critters!

WiFi signals can move through walls/windows (depending on thickness and material). The best way to test if it'll work is to stand in the spot where you want to hang your Bird Buddy with your smartphone and see if you still have a decent wifi signal at that location.

I agree you do not feel this once a month it’s a lot more than that. This is a fake review and I got one and you can’t get a hold of anybody to return it $300 down the drain. This is such a money racket. Imagine the money they make off a bad cameras and if they do get a return, they probably put that bad cam in a new sale and those people might not return it. I’ve been trying to return it for three weeks now and I haven’t heard anything on my email.😅

Garbage. Terrible customer service and support. Ours lasted less than 6 months. Now BB wants me to videotape the unit not accepting a charge. Additionally, do not get the solar panel. It does not keep the camera charged. It's total garbage.
