Thank you! Admittedly, it looks more dramatic in the long shots, but the grades are serious and more then one train fell victim to them and separated or stalled.

Great job once again MB, i love those mid-train DPU's. I've seen both of the Coal Trains with mid-train DPU's roll thru Chattanooga. One is always loaded the other unloaded and going the opposite direction. I did see something that i've never seen before here in Chattanooga last week. It was an auto-rack train with a mid-train DPU. I don't know where he was headed and didn't have time that day to give chase, but maybe keep an eye down your way for him.

Thanks! It was probably a CSX train. They experiment a lot with mid-DPUs.

Thanks! The E and N coal trains typically have 110 cars and it is really necessary that the loaded ones have a DPU in the middle. The Q610 manifest was a bit odd. I had never seen him with a DPU before. This train was actually abolished only two days later, so maybe this was a special run.

EMD's are unique in a way that you can tell them apart from each other. GE's, on the other hand, are so generic that they border on cliche at this point, but they are the industry standard at this point, so all of us railfans better keep some form of caffeine on hand when we're out watching trains because I doubt that GE will be changing up their designs between models anytime soon.

It is interesting (yes, I'm still catching up :D ) how, even though GE completely dominates the market now, the railroads appreciate their EMD's so much that they still retain, and keep on upgrading, even ones that are 40 years old or more.

That's true! The lifetime of the older EMDs usually exceeds those of the GEs.

@mbmars016 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Well, if HD is good enough, you have plenty of "cheap" choices (at about $200-$400) from Panasonic, Sony, Canon, JVC, ... I started with a Panasonic HC-V550 (about $399 five years ago), which I was immensely happy with back in those days.

Wonderful video, nice catches of the DPU's.I was wondering, one of the tank cars in the mixed freight has no manways or valves on top just a straight "tube" car.Do you know what these particular cars carry?
@mbmars016 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Well, they can carry various kinds of liquids, typically chemicals. Some are for ethanol, others carry acidic or basic liquids, molten sulfur, clay slurry... Hazardous materials have to have a placard identifying them; sometimes it's explicitly written on the tank car what it carries. It is not typical to use a tank car for different purposes, so one can relatively easily figure out their contents, but I do not bother too much, honestly.
@garymccullah11436 жыл бұрын
If the tank car you are referring to is in one of the night-time trains, it may be the man-way area and railing was painted a dark color which blended into the night.

Always good, just curious about the shutter speed used since it seems your video is sharper than with my m4/3 G9 with 4k/60fps?
@mbmars016 жыл бұрын
I have nothing to compare with, because this camcorder (Panasonic WXF1) offers 4k resolution in mp4 format at 25fps only, which I find more than reasonable for my purposes. The sharpness of a still frame should be independent of the chosen rate, unless you use an interlaced recording mode. Differences in sharpness of motion pictures might be caused by other factors such as slower auto focus. The focus of the WXF1 is extremely fast if light conditions are good. Also, if your display, TV or screen is not refreshing at a rate that is an integer multiple of 60 you might also see motion blurs. 60fps is not automatically the better option. I have actually read some reviews some time ago, where it was recommended to go with 25fps unless one really has a reason to shoot in 60fps.
