6R80 Lead Frame Replacement

The 6R80 is a solid transmission, and better than the 10R80 in almost every way. But like everything, it has it's Achillies heel. The Molded Leadframe. This plastic harness combines multiple sensors and is notoriously problematic. You may run into issues with shift performance (namely a sudden and often violent downshift), or in this case, no PRNDL indicator on the dash, causing the vehicle to have a no-start concern. I've been doing this job for over 5 years and have never had to overhaul the 6R80 transmission- only replace the leadframe when it goes out. Since these are no longer covered by warranty, you may consider doing this job yourself if you are mechanically inclined. I rank it a 4/10 on the difficulty scale. Not hard to do, just messy.
