My 10r140 had this same problem with the bushing in the CDF drum, 2022 F350. Was making a grinding noise and vibration on the 4-3 downshift. Did so from day one, 13 miles on the odometer. Sat at the dealership for 6 months because the sealing rings were on backorder. When I got it back, only made it 5 miles before the new bushing shifted again... Randy's Godzilla 10r is the only solution I have researched so far, they claim to "stake" the bushings to keep them from shifting.

But within each gear, everything is good no noise. And each gear shift is very smooth if I don't push gas pedal. Downshift though, sometimes it has a bump from 4 to 3,but if I control the brake pedal, I can avoid it. do you know what to do to fix the noise? It is not loud, bbut annoying to me. The cdf bushing moves and blocks fluid pressure ports, leading to slip. It's mainly on larger vehicles like an f150 or Expedition. @@BigBensCarsAndCycles, does the new CDF drum just have better parts or does it also have the lip on it to hold that bushing in place and prevent it from moving and causing the same damage all over again. I have read on other videos where people said when this first started happening that when the transmission was rebuilt all they did was push the existing bushing back into the proper position and put in a new set of seals. That would get you going again, but down the road it would fail again. Then I read that some independent specialty shops started fixing the problem by adding a lip to hold the bushing in place permanently. I just want to make sure Ford is doing the same thing now because my 2018 F150 transmission has failed and I can’t wait several months to have it rebuilt or replaced with a new one, so I have decided to trade mine in on a new 2023 model and hope and pray the 2023 has better parts and that lip. I love my Ford truck and really like everything about it, but that doesn’t mean anything if the transmission or engine has a catastrophic failure before 100,000 miles. If a water pump or an alternator goes out before 100,000 miles, I can live with that, but not an engine or transmission. I have never bought an extended warranty, but I think I will this time because of all the problems people are having. The only problem with that is my truck was out of warranty when my transmission broke, but even if it was under a warranty all the dealers were saying that they were behind 2 to 4 months on rebuilding these transmissions and most of the time the customer had to get a rental and continue to pay their monthly truck payment as well. Hey..the clutches are in good shape, and the only common internal issue is the cdf drum on trucks older than 2022. The drum I'm putting in is redesigned and they shouldn't have an issue again out of this transmission for a long time. My hands are tied with warranty work. Especially this one. This is a technical service bulletin. I have to follow ford's instructions to a T, or they will refuse to pay. Then I will get charged for it. If it were up to me, yeah a fresh new transmission would be nice for them. Or a complete rebuild. But Ford doesn't want to pay for all that. Just the bare minimum. Thanks again for watching. @@BigBensCarsAndCycles, I have a 2018 F150 with this transmission and it made it to 87,000 miles and now it has failed. It started out having trouble shifting from 1st gear to the next gear and after a few weeks it got really bad. Now it jumps from 1st to 4th and then to 8th and then back to 4th and then it stalls and has no power. I need your advice about what to do. I don’t trust a fix or rebuild because I am afraid I will just have more problems down the road. I am not sure if I have a new transmission put in if it will be with upgraded parts or an old, new stock transmission. So, that concerns me because if it is just a new transmission and it is just like the one I have now, it will eventually do the same thing. My big question is, if I trade it in and get a new F150, which year has the new upgraded parts that will prevent this from happening again? The 2022, the 2023, or the 2024? What would you do? The dealerships are backed up 2 to 4 months on repairs-rebuilds and I really don’t like that option anyway. Also, there are no independent shops near me that rebuild this transmission. If I get a new transmission, that will still take a month or so to get put in and it may be new, old stock, so I am leaning towards just trading it in on a brand new truck, but I need to know which year has the redesign to stop that bushing from moving in that drum and destroying the transmission.
