From reading most people's comments, I'd say the majority thought being 16 was going to be a lot better than it turned out to be. I am currently over 60. I actually occasionally watched this show when it first ran, because it really DID remind me of what it was like to be a teen in the 1970's although malls really weren't such a thing yet. Perhaps it really is closer to the way it was decades past rather than the era it was trying to depict.

Today’s my 16 birthday. When I was younger i used to watch this show thinking I’d have a group of friend like that and we would be hanging out and have fun. Well now I’m 16 and i’m alone, no one wished me a happy birthday except my parents. I wish I had friends to hang out with or even online friends but i don’t. I can’t talk or socialize, I’m bad at it and honestly I’m so used to be alone it doesn’t even bother me anymore. I’m feeling tired all the time even tho I just lie on my couch all day watching tv shows and playing video games. It’s weird sometimes when I open my mouth because my lips are always closed from not taking all day. I always told myself I’d comment here when I will be 16 and here I am. If someone is reading this, just know that sometimes when you feel alone and exhausted from living, someone else is in the same state and if they can get out of it you can too.

Wow, I’m 16 too and I’m in the same situation as you. All my friends are gone. They either moved cities, switched schools, or became homeschooled. Meanwhile I’m stuck in classes with a bunch of Freshmen and people I don’t know. I thought being 16 was about having fun, like disguising yourself as college students to go to College Parties. Do awesome pranks at High School with friends. Go Run around the mall doing stupid things just for the fun of it. But no.. it’s mostly anxiety, stress, sleep, study, boring and depressing. No here at my school is any fun. There’s no risk, no excitement, nothing.. I’m just counting the days till college trying to get my way out of here. But even then, what if the situation is the same as it is now? I just wish my life was fun and exciting again, with friends by side who get me. Anyways, I have a Pre-Cal test tomorrow I didn’t even study for. Well good luck.

I wish I enjoyed 16 more. I was not really happy then because I had just recovered from anorexia, I had a lot of worries in life, I didn’t know what kind of career I wanted to study for in college, and my best friend had just died right before sophomore year began. Now at 25 I’m in a happier place and mindset then I was back then and I am more aware. While I am thankful for all my experiences in life, the one thing I wish I could have done at 16 was have more fun and not worried so much. In other words...hanged out with friends, laughed more, taken more risks, and not isolated myself. Don’t get me wrong I had wonderful teen years and I had some rotten things mixed into them but I think everyone does. I just wish I loosened up a bit and not been so serious and worried all the time.
