Wait until you drive it, then you'll hate it. Cause the engine sucks and it trips up off the line. Because the engine stops when you go to a red light. And then when you press the gas, it starts again. And then it stumbles, and then you drive forward. It's an absolute piece of s*** It's like popping the clutch, almost every time

I have a 2008 4runner with the 4.0L V6 and I'm glad it's finally being upgraded. It's been my perfect vehicle and dead reliable, but I find myself wanting more power. The new 2.4L turbo beats even the V8 in everything except sound. As far as reliability remember the 4.0L V6 had fatal head gasket issues in the earlier revisions and the V8 will break itself if the timing belt snaps.

Lexus has been using the same engine for a long time, and Toyota torture tests their turbos. If you follow the scheduled maintenance guidelines, the new 4Runner should be very reliable and long-lasting.

@@christianedelmann6880yeah, twin turbo v6 bearings can not hold such torque. I think that hybrid with even more torque uses more robust bearings inside the engine and because of that they are still good. I did not hear about hybrid v6 faults yet.

@@MrFlores518 some people run air compressors, or diy maintenance. Some aren’t almost 6’ tall and it presents other challenges. The current 5th Gen has them, and I greatly appreciate them. Why go backwards, or why not have them? 4Runner isn’t just any SUV. It’s one of the best SUVs ever made….. it’s not cheap. It’s a cash cow for Toyota.

Toyota is not the kind of company that produces engines without proper testing. It will take time to adjust to the new tech and engines, but at the end of the day, it's a Toyota, and that alone is enough for people to trust their vehicles will be just fine, I still have my 2007 Tundra crewmax, running like a champ, my second Tundra is 2022 and man do I love them both!. I see this new 4runner in my driveway in a couple of years, hopefully.

@@MrFlores518 what about the engines in the tundra? They had tons of issues the first years. Turbo setups just complicate issues. In a performance aspect yes turbos are great power adders but for normal driving applications I don't see them last as long as like thr 4.0 from the tacoma and 4runner.

Man do you really think Toyota is going to put out crap? Saab turbos had issues in the 80s. So did NA engines. I live in Wyoming and drive at altitude and I have my first turbo. 75K miles in. Zero issues. Massive low end torque and doesn't;t start wheezing at elevation. Turbos have been around forever.

Once after it hit 160k plus I noticed the truck would avg around 22-24 on the mpg digital indicator btwn 60mph & 70mph. Had a major tube up on all the fluids n flush at 170k mi.w new plugs, filters n fluids. Use cotco gas no additives. I'm not a hauler just a cruiser n the 4runner enjoys the sweet spot btwn 60 & 70 mph no sweat in the 1800 rpm range. Just takes patience & some reluctance but in hindsight a peace of mind I can't be happier about having the ultimate comfortable sporty swag rig. No 1 cares about ur BS call & sorry salty ass opinion bruh. U do u. I'm doing mine fine. Mighty fine.
