It’s an engineering issue that they will never admit because they somehow think we are going to buy the engine debris theory. The cast Iron bearing caps are the issue and here is why. Aluminum and cast iron expand and contract at different rates. The bottom portion of the main bearing caps and the torque specifications of the bolts that hold them in place are off. The Aluminum expansion is greater than the cast iron allowing normal metal shavings during engine break in period to get into the main bearing. It’s engineering one on one. They messed up thinking that cast iron would somehow prevent main bearing damage under extreme pressure. Torque specifications differ between aluminum and cast iron. They gambled at lost.. Go woke go broke. They could have kept the V8 and made it more fuel efficient, but they wanted to be clever and claim all this greatness with a V6. If the V6 was so great they would be using it in trophy trucks. V8 all day long is the better more reliable platform… the quality of the turbos in the V6 will not reach the mileage of the natural aspirated V8. Truck limited by to many variables that can fail is an ESG conformity rather than a customer first business model. Sorry Toyota is not on the right track.

Admittedly, I'm a Toyota fan, but I wouldn't say that their kaizen methodology and manufacturing methods are "overhyped" (I have seen plenty Toyotas and Lexus models with over 300k+ miles without any mechanical issues, and we've seen them fix issues on new engines before), but I would consider the context of CAFE emissions regulations to play a factor in why they're drastically changing so many reliable platforms to hybrids and turbo chargers. Also, it should be noted that quality control in the entire auto industry overall has gone down the past decade (way more plastic components, disrupted supply chains, and the cost of materials, such as precious minerals, has gone up), and more manufacturers have implemented an unnecessary amount of ECUs post 2013. The entire auto industry itself is looking pretty bleak, especially with dealerships price gouging vehicles. To Toyota's credit, at least they're trying to rectify the issues of the 2022-2024 vehicles, but I would undoubtedly steer clear of their new platforms (or from any other auto manufacturer) until these issues are resolved and there's more evidence to suggest it won't be a detriment. I'm definitely not happy that they've axed their entire NA V8 platform, even if it would cost them some of their profits.

There’s a few videos out on YT that talk about this issue. Toyota went to a full synthetic transmission fluid that requires no additional cooling. You can put a cooler from the 2018 and older models with the correct Toyota parts. There are Tundra owners that tow and have made these modifications and show you and even a few sell the kits from Sparks Toyota with all the respective parts to install the cooler. Look it up, that’s my plan on my 2019 Tundra SR5.

I wouldn’t touch Toyota/Lexus vehicles with this engine at least in the next 5 years. If the issue is due to craftsmanship, then they can probably fix it in the next couple of years. However, If this is a design flaw, I doubt they will ever fix it. Their 4.6 and 5.7 V8 engines, which are always quoted as “bulletproof”, also have fatal, inevitable flaws such as cam tower leaks and coolant valley leaks, both of which require complete engine tear down to fix (just Google these terms to see them to believe). They also know these problems for the past 10+ years but never attempted to fix them.

I just can't see them releasing these new engines without them passing a complete durability test program. You pointed out that they have more than just engine problems, transmissions, differentials, trim etc! They had so many years between models to perfect this new design, what happened? Toyota was reputation was built on slow gradual changes over many years, testing everything before it was sold. They better get some really talented people in engineering, quality and the manufacturing departments to replace the people who helped make this mess!

As a former Toyota Master tech, lot of the issues with Toyota Quality started few years back when they decided to transfer engineering from Japan to USA. They wanted all the engineers to be American bec they knew the quality of US roads lol😂. They said a Japanese engineer won’t know how people in USA drive. Also, vehicles built in Japan had less issues then American built. If you vin number started with J then it’s was much more reliable then US variant. This is why I don’t buy anything new from Toyota and wait till all the fuckups are fixed by them.

$ cost is the real reason. In 1995 a LE Camry cost $21350 dollars 💰 equivalent to $42,000 dollars today. Most Camry cars had some cars made in the USA and Japan. They asked me if I still wanted it and that they would fix it. They did. I’m glad they caught it. I figured it was nothing and it’s Toyota. The only other issue I’m having now is that there appears to be an oil leak form the rear main seal. I cleaned it off twice and it came back. Took it to the dealer and they put dye in it and told me to come back. I’d say the techs changing the oil should have noticed the leak it was decently large and easy to notice. Just wanted to say that I am so happy you are making these videos about the V35A engine failures. It’s ironic, but “The Car Care Nut” did a video posted 5 months ago about the best and worst Toyota engines. About half way thru the video, he mentions the V35A concerning turbo issues as well as he actually states that there is contamination from the engine factory, how did he know that? Recall just came out end of May, 3 weeks ago. Toyota has known this was the issue or he would not have been able to say that comment. Im pretty sure he has a Toyota insider that leaked that to him. Anyway, this engine failure is a serious issue and consumer safety should be top priority, not designing, manufacturing, and selling new vehicles. They clearly stated that there was an issue in their manufacturing procedure that has the potential for catastrophic engine failure. All Tundras effected should be parked and Toyota needs to provide transportation vehicles to these customers. NATSA should have more power to enforce these manufacturers to fix these problems. Chevy Volt was another joke of a recall. These vehicles could explode without warning, telling customers to park it outside in case it went up in smoke. That’s total BS. Different problem, but same issue concerning the lack of safety for the consumer. Guess it is to be expected, look how long it took to get seat belts in cars. We need another Ralph Nader to step up and get the government to do something about the safety recalls. I guess Toyota expects their customers to park these vehicles and go rent a vehicle. I don’t really care if it cost Toyota 3-5 billion to fix this issue. They created it, so they need to fix it. Keep in mind, all of us that bought back in 2022 and 2023 got hit with MSRP at a minimum, some were asking $20K above MSRP. BTW, one dealership tried that one on me, never step foot on their property again. Hope that dealership goes bankrupt for the way they treated potential customers.
