clueless fans. so much projection for those kids. just because he wasnt ranked that high from the medias experts. so the casual fans think, "what he is not even in the top 10 on the list. who is that guy". that gives u something to think about those casual fans that only know the top 10 players and ignoring everybody else.
@muttonmark
@muttonmark 2 жыл бұрын
This provides hockey fans a dose of reality. We all sit and read what the pundits publish as being their draft lists, and very few are ever accurate. No need to get upset if your team doesn't pick the player that you wanted. These teams know a helluva lot more about these players than Pronman, Scouching, Cosentino, Scott Wheeler does. Don't base your views on what those individuals publish for you. Great pick by an organization that has the right Captain behind the wheel. Yzerman will bring them back to the forefront. Seider was a bomb knocked over the CF fence. It also drives me nuts at the sheer arrogance that some of these pundits have. Remember, if these guys were truly that good at scouting, they would be employed by NHL Teams. There is a reason these guys are employed by media outlets
@rsandersr47
@rsandersr47 2 жыл бұрын
I def see what you're saying but teams get it wrong too. Also the pundits can sometimes disagree by a lot. They also don't have the coverage that some teams have. Scouch for instance had some huge differences this year placing lambert top 5. I agree that you shouldn't be upset because your team didn't draft "x" or because he was nationally ranked "#x" sometimes you never know.

As a german and who follows the DEL and Mannheim on a regular basis, I knew this kid was special and had potential to qb your powerplay (you saw it in Mannheim occassionally and espically in the U20 world cup). I never imagined him going 6th, because europeans are lesser known, but I knew back then it was a good pick.

Biggest surprise for me has been his offensive upside. Despite the initial "wtf" reaction to him as the 6th pick, if you looked at his highlights, you understood what Stevie saw. And we knew he would hit like a truck, and be pretty defensively sound. But putting up points the way he did was a good surprise. Assuming he keeps playing like this, he might go down as one of the biggest draft steals in NHL history.
@maximilianmaier3950
@maximilianmaier3950 2 жыл бұрын
He definitely won't go down as one of the biggest steals lol. He was drafted 6th overall. Even if he turns out to be the best player in this entire draft class over his entire career, it's not a big steal since only 5 players were drafted ahead of him. In comparison, Kaprizov was drafted in the 5th round, 135th overall - that's a huge steal.
@Landry04
@Landry04 2 жыл бұрын
@@maximilianmaier3950 i mean kaprizov was drafted this late because he had a contract in Russia (like a 4-5 years contract I believe) and most teams thought he would never play in the NHL because of that contract

he's a great GM, but people need to realize, the greatest GM's of all times, never drafted legendary Franchise studs every single year of their career. We owe Stevie a pass, he's literally turned the ship around since he's joined in 2019. There was literally no hope a few years ago, and now there is so much hope in Detroit. We have a great future ahead of us, and I will never go against Yzerman, he's literally helped this organization since the 1st day he put on that uniform.

(Not a Wings fan), but Yzerman made that pick with such confidence. Watching the beginning, he wasn't even on the board. I mean, no real need for hindsight here, but I wonder where he was projected and could the Wings have moved down? Did another team have a read on him? That last part is the great unknown if you really want your guy and that's why he went 6th. Do you want to take the chance to move to 10-15? Do you take that chance? Good for the Wings and Yzerman getting their guy. Great evaluation.

Sorry last comment 😂 but honestly imagine if you can the loyalty this young man will have as a building block to wings success. If anyone is 40 or older they'll remember the end of the dead wings and the start of Stevie Y, how the wings took a chance on him, Look who the wings could've picked, Cam Neely, tom Barrasso Russ Courtnal, They were possibilities, Stevie was small by NHL standards then and there are stories of Stevie Y in his draft eligible year stuffing his skates and pads to look bigger to scouts, even then he did all he could to be in the NHL. Point being once drafted Stevie put the team first, at first all out offense on par with Lemieux and Gretzky, Then Bowman said play this way if you want to win and he became the best two way player in the game, took pay cuts to re-sign Fedorov, Hull, He did all he could to help the team win. People in general remember when you give them opportunity

Obviously this turned out to be the right pick, my only complaint was that he wasn’t on anybody else’s board that high so we probably could’ve gotten Zegras/Podkolzin/Cozens AND still gotten Seider later in the round or in a later round. Now, that said, I’m happy with how things turned out and I wouldn’t trade the kid for anyone anymore, but we would’ve been even further along had he swung one of those three and Seider. Could you imagine if Raymond, Zegras, and Seider were all Red Wings and all competing for the Calder last year? Lol
@maximilianmaier3950
@maximilianmaier3950 2 жыл бұрын
There is no way they would've gotten him in a later round. He was projected as a mid 1st rounder. So the only realistic option would've been to trade down a few spots and they might've even tried that, but you always need two sides for a trade and maybe they just weren't able to find a trade partner. The Wings also did not have another pick in the first round, so if you can't find a trade partner to trade down, you either take Seider at 6 or you don't get him at all. Getting one of Zegras, Podkolzin or Cozens and Seider was pretty impossible. Also, it's way too early to call it the right pick. People tend to completely overreact to rookie seasons and calling a rookie the next big star in the NHL after a good rookie season is just as ridiculous as calling a rookie a bust after a bad one. I'm German, just like Seider, so of course I would love to see him become a big star in the NHL, but we also have to keep in mind that unlike guys like Makar, Fox or Hughes who all played in college, Seider has already played against grown men in Europe, which probably made it easier for him to adjust to the physicality of the NHL, while those other guys needed to get used to it first. Seider might just be further ahead in his development and closer to his ceiling than those other guys were during their rookie seasons

He'll only get bigger and better, and IS our franchise cornerstone D-man. I've heard comparisons to Pronger, but i think he is another type of d-man entirely. One we haven't seen before. Cool update, commenters requested this. Just look at Moritz and say a 4 to 5 year projection. He should have over 500 hits and 400 blocks. Downside he needs to work on +/- in the turnover department, but with the influx of various experienced Dmen there is no cohesion, that will change when LHD Edvinsson arrives and they can develop a strategy together. In the near future Moritz will be a paid more than Cale Makar, Moritz should be in the $10mil AAV mark easy, and deserves it. Cannot fiddle around and low ball this kid in his contract ideals. A bridge deal is totally not going to happen. If Moritz wants to be a team guy and not go to $10mil AAV mark.........I suppose that would be up to him and his agent.

@@Gkett883 Didn't Yzerman sign Hedman for multi year $8mil AAV in 2017? In adjusted inflation it is going to be similar money. Cap increases also if the owners get their escrow sorted out. Yzerman has to distance himself rom the Holland school, progression contracts. Yet it sort of bit him with Bertuzzi going to arbitration and getting a 1 year deal then another $4,750,000 bridge . They still may lose Bertuzzi to UFA which I do not fault Tyler for exploring the open market (I would tell him to do the same). The could free up significant cap space. Also there was sort of a Holland thought that no one would be paid above Larkin. That all has to change with adding a Dman with this caliber as irking them with an arbitration is really not an answer . I could suppose a 6/58mil

@@Gkett883 As of right now the Aves got an awesome contract with Makar locking him in early, actually with his recent play Cale probably should be earning much more and currently is the 9th highest paid Dman until 2026-27, that is ridiculous but the terms were agreed. Adam Fox is ranked 4th @ $9.5mil AAV.....I can agree with your terms with a range, yet you do not want to sour Moritz if he keeps progressing really well and feels slighted and needs to file for arbitration, then go into a bridge deal scenario. Unfortunately this has happened to Tyler Bertuzzi, and he may depart.

I don't think burt will leave. I believe Yzerman was hesitant to sign him long term with the issues he was having with his back at the time. Which is totally understandable. No sense in tying up a bunch of money into someone you're not sure is gunna make a full recovery. I also believe Stevie is very good at making players understand the team first mentality. You can see how multiple teams are struggling with massive contracts and not having money to sign depth. Both Tampa and avs are built with the team first mentality and that's exactly why they're both in the finals right now.

Steve went on the road for the year when he demoted himself in TB. Well he was being paid as a "consultant" by the Lightning but really was scouting for himself and future players. Surprised TB did not catch on and say where are you going Steve? By then he already was booking hotel reservations in Europe. Appears this scenario really paid of for Detroit.

@@Pepe_Silvia stole what?? Tampa would never be in the position to draft these two. Seider was projected in the 15th range and Raymond was consensus top 4 pick.
