At that time still in service of Tampa (Possibly trying to scout potential late 1st round draft picks) ... But I remember staying up during the night to watch the draft from germany... and when Yzerman walked up the stairs I remembered seeing him scout Seider in Person... You can't predict how good a player is by their draft order. There is too many busts in the top 10 picks, and we already know several round 2-6 players have actually become super stars. People need to learn to judge a rookie in year 4 or 5, not year 1-3 or even prior to that. Even if a rookie is terrible in X years for one team, they could completely change with another team. Valeri Nichushkin is a good example of this. Dallas was just not the team for him - it wasted so many years for him.

@@dwaynethewokjohnson7773 There are a lot of things that we all wish had gone differently. As a Detroit fan who still reflexively roots against Colorado, I wish that this year's Western Conference Finals could have had a different result. One thing to keep in mind is that when discussing prospects with his scouting staff in 2017, 2018, and early 2019, Holland had no idea that he would be leaving soon. Even when Yzerman was hired in April 2019, the original plan was for Holland to stay on as assistant GM. That was all announced and ready to go, and Yzerman and Holland worked together on the Red Wings off-season for a month. Then we were all surprised when Holland abruptly announced "Change of plans: I'm going to Edmonton". He subsequently said that he was surprised himself how quickly he missed being the top guy making the final decisions. Also, while Holland has gotten a lot of criticism for some of his calls in recent years, he had a lot of success before that. He became GM in 1997 as Detroit had just become the champion, but then abruptly lost another awesome defenseman. Vladimir Konstantinov was still under contract for one more year, but his career was suddenly ended by a tragic limo accident. Holland immediately had the job of building the next year's team to fill in the gap of the missing all-star defenseman, and he did well enough as shown by the team's repeat the next year. He would later also build the championship teams of 2002 and 2008.

1. Hughes. MTL taking Slafkovsky and missing out on Johnny Hockey isn't making me scream 100 pts. He'll still put 80 pts on a lackluster Devils team, and he'll need the right supporting cast. 2. Kakko has been ruined by David Quinn and injuries and being overshadowed by Panarin, Kreids, and Zibanejad. If he plays 82 games this year, I think he'll put up 50 pts comfortably. 3. Dach. Being with Suzuki, Slafkovsky, Caufield, and Anderson who he can pass the puck to, he'll have a breakout season. 4. Byram. He has a cup. Nothing else to mention 5. Turcotte. There are many players from this draft who do have the potential to break out and have a much better career than Seider. Seider would not be the first guy coming over from Europe with a pretty impressive rookie season and then developing much slower than other guys. Already having played against grown men in Europe simply makes it easier to adjust to the higher level of physicality compared to guys who played junior or college hockey before.

The lockdown era made so many things worse. Concussions aren't the real problem Byram had.

Byrams game is going to take longer but he also had to come up on an Exponentially better team and he has a way more polished offense and puck moving game then seider.

You could use the better team as in argument in the other direction as well ist easier 2 play with good teammates it's harder to make the team yea but it's easier to make plays and have good stats if everyone around you is good
@almostawesome59342 жыл бұрын
@@finneich5105 i guess but Bo looked good on his own and made his own plays on the biggest stage and held the cup. To your point if Seider was on the avs I guarantee he has similar development if not worse

I mean if jack hughes decided to play a year at college he would of never seen a “down year”. Wouldn’t knock him for taking the hardest and most challenging route to the nhl. Still not sold on the idea that seider is better then jack Hughes but time will tell.

He’s not necessarily a “better player”…one’s a Forward ones a Defenseman, but I will say the Red Wings win a Cup before the Devils, Seider will have more of an impact than Hughes…

@@Georgie_4E4 that’s a bold take after this past season.

@@p3t3ymac96 not really. Holland left the Red Wings in shambles. They are on the back end of a full scale rebuild with better young talent than the Devils…The Devils need Hughes to score 40 goals and have 100 points to be relevant….

Why would you dump on Michael Bunting and signal him out like that? Like what kind of bullshit is that? Just list his name like everyone else you listed. There was no reason to signal him out like he didn't matter. He has 2x as many votes as Raymond and he actually led in points and was #2 in both goals and assists. That's so unprofessional. And before people say it's because he played with Marner and Matthews, he was getting points on every line he played on, and as we saw with Nick Ritchie, playing with Matthews and Marner is no guarantee you will be a 60-point player. Regardless of age, Bunting qualified and he deserves respect for his accomplishment. And yes, he does even if you hate the Leafs too, which just makes these content creators chilish. He was 3rd in Calder voting - say his fucking name.
@RobTalksHockey2 жыл бұрын
It was a joke. I’m a fan of Bunting. But I do believe Calder age should be lowered, but that’s not his problem
@theDaveStanzito2 жыл бұрын
How about we stop putting so much into mock drafts? Hockey writers are NOT the same as scouts, GMs, Coaches, etc. Detroit has a strong history in Europe and great scouting there. That's why Mo worked in Detroit.
@theDaveStanzito2 жыл бұрын
I should also state he had people at every step who fostered his development path. His move to the SHL was especially smart as Detroit has like half a dozen high level prospects playing there. He had a chance to meet these guys and play with/against them. In a few years they will dominate the roster. Just wait and see.
