could cut the back of the front axle differential housing, weld another flange on, and insert another pinion housing pointing backward toward the second axle. no need for a second driveshaft or an extreme pinion angle on the second differential. could be a little difficult getting the second pinion gear to get good contact on the ring gear though. but it'd be cleaner and more like a Kamaz truck, less the extra ton of cast iron... 🤷🏻♂️

@@brandoncaldwell95 not if you flip the rear axle
@brandoncaldwell955 жыл бұрын
@@Liberator975 The ring gear has teeth on one side only. Flipping does nothing. You need a duel ring gear set-up in the first axle to run the rear the correct direction. Side of that bell housing wont allow it to happen. Not only that, but the axles are designed to go 1 direction at speed not the other way due to the teeth direction. In all, you would destroy 1 or both axles attempting it even if you were to get it to work in reverse.

Looking good and can't wait to see how you get the underside finished. Got my own 6x6 project in the works...using a couple International Harvester Scouts (1 is a drivetrain donor + what little usable sheet metal it has left) while the other will be the one that will get cut//extended. Been disputing on how I'd do the rear suspension...either a walking type like this or use normal spring setup with the rear ones set a bit narrower than the mid so they don't interfere with each other. Not sure how you are going to get this thing going...but a sprocket//chain between on the mid axle input going up to another sprocket attached to a shaft fixed to the top of the axle. Back of this shaft would connect to the rear with U joints on either end with a sliding drive shaft so it can move with the motion of the rear axle w/o binding would work. Just means if want to drive the highway and not have the rear axle engaged would have to remove the chain. My dad made a 6x6 out some using an old FORD frame and the rear ends (not the bodies though) that used the above chain//sprocket setup. It however uses a shaft going straight across the tops of both axles with sprockets/chains for the rear but had he pitched the rear one up he could have attached the line directly. If desired I'd be willing to supply images.

Hahahaha. USA shit boxes. Funny. The only real difference between American and Soviet vehicles was that in America you could opt to get good cars if you where rich enough. In Russia cars where almost impossible to obtain and were built with lower quality components. This situation has not changed much today for Russian vehicles in general which were, and still are built for "cheapness" sacrificing power, weight, luxury, and quality for cheapness. The USA actually did make make some good quality vehicles but good luck finding one, you're not the only guy looking.

Btw was the blue estate in one of the shots an old Hillman Hunter estate per chance? There is a brand over here in the UK that made 6x6 Land Rover's and Range Rover's, Carmichael's I think they are called, prob see how they did the extra axle but it wouldn't be hard to say put where the diff backplate is. Best moment I had in my Lada Niva was dirt riding it all along Bournemouth beach and being chased up and down by loads of police, they had to crane out three cars who unwisely thought to go onto the sand lol I would love to make my 3 wheeler a 3x3 but I think that would be somewhat impossible with the front wheel being the steering wheel :)

Where's the rear end axle drive and you need that for a 4-wheel rear drive system. It's like putting on a truck with a "Tag-Axle" on a car. The beauty about Russia, they KISS, (Keep-It-Simple-Stupid!) with the engineering like the AK-47 and Love You Folks!

Boy is that a nightmare, using a uni-body construction (which I think is junk-cheap-engineering) to add a extra axle to a vehicle. You fellas are great for trying it. I was never impressed with Uni-Body cars or even trucks which was tried here in the US and died like it should have a year later. A real vehicle needs a solid full frame like the diesel trucks and the Public doesn't need cars that compress you in a steel coffin that collapses when you are in a wreck. At least Russia has some "Common-Sense" Folks in it and not some Bureaucratic Morons designing cars for the Public. Thanks and Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to You An You Folks Over There!

I know this is very old, but the bottom bars between the front and rear axles will prevent the suspension from working. As the leaf springs compress, the distance between them will increase. However those bars will prevent that, locking the unit.
