I 'm in New Zealand and i like your channel. I'm a mechanic too. I have done a lot of work on Nivas over the years. You need to find information on driveshaft "Phasing".The relationship of the universal joints to each other. This is important to eliminate vibrations . A lot of vibrations come from the alignment of the transfer case with the gearbox. Put the car on the hoist and start the motor and put it in second gear and adjust the idle up to 2000 rpm. Lift the car and loosen off the 4 bolts that for the transfer case. Put a jack under the transfer case and move it up and down, left and right until the vibration goes away. Then you can measure the the thickness of the shims that you will need to make to go between the chassis and the transfer case mounts. They are never right when they leave the factory. Doing this will stop your teeth rattling loose in your mouth. Check the bolts that hold the front differential to the motor as they need to be taken off and a hole drilled across the head so you can lock wire them. They come loose and damage the threads. The Lada brake master cylinder is poor design with square section seals . We replaced them when they wore out with a Nissan or Honda brake master cylinder that has the same diameter cylinder and bolt pattern. It feels a lot better. We had problems with the rear brake adjusters coming loose . The Spring washer in them breaks. We welded a strip of steel to the adjuster and drilled a hole into the outside end and through the backing plate. You take the screw out and re drill the holes as they wear. The Lada is surprisingly good offroad Have fun with your Lada.

A little trick I picked up from an old timer and it works well is to drill a hole in the tube of the prop shaft and put a few ml of transmission fluid in the tube. This will help take most of the vibration out of the prop shaft. Then plug the hole with a rubber plug. The fluid will go to the unbalanced spot in the shaft.
@RickBaconsAdventures
@RickBaconsAdventures 5 жыл бұрын
That's good for balancing but the problem here is that U joints are not constant velocity and if they aren't straight they speed up and slow down as they rotate. U joints are meant to be straight except for tiny amounts of time when you go over bumps. CV joints use different geometry so the shaft spins at a, well, constant velocity. Here they just called it vibration to simplify the explanation
@matthemberry

All it really needs is it good set of tires, and possibly a set of chains. Weight is good if you don't need flotation such as deep snow mud or sand. (Or mpg). But regardless it comes down to traction. Part of the reason a 6 x 6 has potential. But as with everything it's only as good as the weakest link. My 1980 long wheelbase Hilux gets its weight not only from 44 by 17 inch tires. But another fuel tank has been relocated behind the axle as well. And the side tool boxes are position above the rear axle those boxes carry extra parts, tools and camping gear as well, keeping them secure and dry. There's then a custom shell over those for comfortable sleeping. Bottom line it has a near 50/50 weight distribution. But then it is lifted 10 in with 16 in of travel, a stage 3 stroker 22R, 5:29 gearing, lockers front and rear and a Marlin crawler. Which gives it 15 forward gears and three reverses. Yes I can double My Double Down get out and be my own spotter. I do have a 2000 Chevy Blazer I have more than once thought about converting to a 6 x 6. You may have just inspired me. LOL Perhaps build it with 36in tires and long travel suspension. With an EXO cage.

I don't want to bash anything or anyone, but the comment about replacing universal joints with CV's to eliminate drivetrain vibration is a load of nonsense. My family has a propshaft build/rebuild/repair shop, and the problem right here is the way in which the "new" propshafts were butchered together - cutting and simply welding. There is way more to it, and believe me - you can get very close to vibrationless shafts with universal joints in high and super high torque applications! The real issue here is that you do not use a proper inter-axle shaft. The current configuration will never be vibrationless, even with CV's.

That was awesome! You took a niva! And made it way more capable and better!🍸🥴👍but is light because you dont have any weight or mud and snow tires. Otherwise it would do way better!

In Russia, there is no AAA. There's just always a bunch of old Russian men standing around to push you out any time you get stuck. I prefer this method.

That thing is cool as hell!! You should fabricate up some paddle tires of some kind for it. That would be way cool in the snow like that! Heck yeah!!

What if you guys put the 2nd transfer case centered between the 2 rear axles, flip the furthest forward rear axle over and have its input facing rearward? That way you wont need such harsh u joint angles as the outputs will be fairly straight and will only need to move when the rear axles flex, not a constant bend. You could use a cable to shift it since it would be so far behind you. This will also help your rear end weight problem as the 2nd transfer case will be directly over the rear axles....it would be unsprung weight but in this case i doubt it would matter much.. Love how you guys git r done

Thr thing about the niva is it's very low weight, allowing it to climb over almost anything. The tradeoff with more wheels is more weight on top of the extended body and chassis
