VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
"We wanted something that most RV's couldn't go" For those looking to get out there and stay out there, there's nothing better than an off grid overland vehicle. Over the last 4 years, more and more people are buying decommissioned military vehicles and turning them into tiny houses. Before I purchased a bus, I was actually looking at one of these. At that time, you could find a base model, without the slide outs and a box, for $3-$4k on government auction sites. However, just like school busses now, the price has shot up as these become a more popular option. This build has a ton of clever design hacks, probably one of the best I have ever seen.

Agreed. The spaciousness is a winning feature. However, I'm sure it gets old paying for gas to go 5-8 miles per gallon. Alas it is a comfort vs practically sum, and we all have our unique sweet spots.
@scottslotterbeck3796
@scottslotterbeck3796 3 жыл бұрын
@@OrthodoxAtheist Yup. It's probably best to view a vehicle such as this as a stationary vehicle that can move around every once in a while. If we can ever get back on the abundant, safe, carbon-free nuclear power mated with the new catalytic production of carbon-based fuel made from CO2 in the atmosphere, we are home free, and mpg won't be that big of a deal.

@theuglykwan

In that event, gas for the vehicle will be a problem. They'd need to be able to produce alternative fuel and have it run on it. That's probably not practical. So basically this would allow you to get a certain distance for as long as you have gas, after that you're pretty much stationary. Gas has a shelf life. Perhaps solar could help it run for short distances?

I wanted metal Lowe dupped me ended up with shop partical board with vinyl covering which is coming off. Sad to say Sanders is not as good as it use to be still had good customer service though and replaced parts no question asked. Yes my kitchen industrial look good buy on the cabinetry buy one pantry shop grade get one upper cabnet free. So it was a quick kitchen fix for a husband who howled at the time that he wasn't into finish carpentry and he was a truck driver so cabnet building is time consuming this also was a weekend do so it worked for us. I will eventually pull off the vinyl covering and paint after a long honey do list left to me to complete now on my own:-(

Seriously cool. I don’t think downsizing your wardrobe is trivial at all. It’s probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done when it comes to tiny living. I’m with you about relying on solar for electricity and cooking with induction. We have a propane stove in our trailer (which is 2 years old) and it’s nothing but a pain. We don’t even use it. I love the few little plants you have. They just seemed to add that little touch of home. Oh my gosh that view of the Grand Canyon was stunning. I bet sunrises and sunsets are amazing! I regret not being able to find something and building our own but neither of us is good at DIY (nor do I care to). Many happy travels!

Hi! Thanks. Ya, we see your point, kinda' silly, but she does like that we use solar for as much as possible. Surprisingly, we actually have reduced our carbon footprint, when you compare our prior traditional life with two households, two full-time commuter rigs and full-time jobs to commute to. We don't drive this big rig daily, in fact the whole point is to avoid that.

I am glad that the two of you thought outside the box and got the kitchen 'work bench'. The drawers are perfect for the kitchen area. You are truly ready for the zombie apocalypse. How would anything that big really get stuck in the snow? Is it all wheel drive? Love the great thought you have put into your bunker..Happy New Year!! You never showed where all your clothing goes.

Were you a truck driver in the military? so you got your ideas there as well as out of the service? that is what I call thinking for your own selves and how to insure your freedoms stay safe and enjoy your lives together, well done...

Everyone in the military could drive these. This is just a regular five ton truck . I was in the Army when these came into service, I think around 1999 or 2000. 88 Mikes drove bigger vehicles than these . Truck drivers transported tanks or other heavy vehicles. You wouldnt haul a tank with this vehicle.
