Im proud to say, I ripped off 26 square/ 2 layer's, fixed a few rot spots, nailed off any loose ends, applied ice/snow shield, cut the peaks for super ridge vent, paper (30 weight) and applied Tampco Heritage Dimensional shingles according to the manufactured spec. Capped the hips and ridge- along with carrying up all materials and supplies ( single story ranch ). I tarped the roof after the rip, and worked on it 4 days a week for 3 weeks using weekends and 2 vacation days each week. The total costs of materials was $4464.00 and the cheapest estimate I got was $10,200. So I saved $5736.00 and didn't miss any days at my full-time job, using a total of 6 paid vacation days. Not bad for a 62 year old. Ok, I had some years working as a roofer a long time ago, ( like 25 years ago), and that job afforded me the experience and funds to buy the house in the 1st place. My point here isn't to slam the speed a person can do the job, it's knowing the valuable asset of learning a trade that you will use later in life. Back then we earned $ 5.00 a square to rip a roof, and $ 10.00 a square to put it on. So 26 square + cap and ridge vent would have netted $450.00 and took 2 men about 4 days. This 1 took me 12 days and and I netted $5736.00 or $478.00 per day + 3 full weeks pay from my regular job. How fast is that?
@cdnroofer4 жыл бұрын
A lot of blow through on the nails. Great if your fast, great if you can nail in the “nail zone”. But no so great when a 50+MPH wind comes through. Shingle manufactures won’t warranty on over driven or under driven nails. Quality vs Quantity ppl.

One of the best nailers on the market. I used to use Hitachi/Metabo, but they were breaking within just a couple months. I can usually get 6-9 months of use out of a Max, and I love that I don't have to go back and pick up the last nail that drops out of a Metabo. It might take a second to get used to nailing with it because of that fat rear end on it, but once you have your nail rhythm down, it's smooth sailing, and you won't want another Metabo on your roof.

Or you mitigate that by thinking ahead and snapping control lines, as I do on every inch of roof i shingle. Two things I've learned in my years of shingling. Those who don't snap lines tend to have the most wavy roofs I've come across. Those who do snap lines don't end up having dips and dives, eaten shingles, or unmatched dormer peaks. Preparation is half the battle. 😉
