Holy whistle! Installing a 3 inch downpipe, and some driving and sound clips of the new stage 1 turbo installed. So far I am impressed!

OK or did you just buy upgraded turbo and no intercooler and if you did did it just fit right on the stock location of the old turbo?
@airplanekid3337 ай бұрын
I bought the upgraded turbo and it fit in the stock location and shaved some metal for clearance. I ran it with the stock intake hat till I installed a water to air intercooler system later.

get your boost to around 8-10 psi anything more intercool it otherwise your negating the purpose of the turbo by super heating the air charge going into the motor as for the black smoke that is a lack of air density going into motor either add more air going in or cool inlet air to make it denser.
@jdoerr7792 жыл бұрын
Lmao this completely false. Turbochargers are efficient at different pressures for a given volume. Blanket statements like this are ridiculous. The factory turbocharger can and will benefit you up towards 20psi of air.
@rickcooperjr628642 жыл бұрын
@@jdoerr779 No it will not 20psi will have your intake air temps at around 250f meaning the density of air is almost even with 6-8psi of boost intercooled in short hot air takes power away and instead increases risk of other damage to our motors like damage to the intake valve guides and valve guide seals at 20psi non intercooled our motors would labor to run negating the benefit of the turbo anything over 10psi on our old diesels are suggested to be intercooled for a reason because hot air don't make power cool air does due to air density. I will also point another flaw to you idea to get to 20psi boost takes quite a bit of fuel with our motors meaning a ton of heat if you do not got the cool air going in youe EGT's are going to spike thru the roof and the motor will essentially melt down.
@jdoerr7792 жыл бұрын
@@rickcooperjr62864 If you think a 10psi truck and a 20psi truck run the same, that’s on you dude. I’m not arguing that a non-intercooled 20psi is better than an intercooled 8psi truck. I’m arguing that a non-intercooled 20psi truck is better than a non-intercooled 8psi truck. You are moving the goal posts.

@@jdoerr779 dude simply put a 7.3 / 6.9 idi at 20psi without a intercooler is going to destroy it shortly after you poke the throttle. The pistons will literally swell up due to the heat pinch a ring and then seize the piston in the bore and you will get a ejecto rodo. The reason being our pistons are cast and swell like crazy PLZ stop spouting out stuff you obviously have no idea about otherwise prove it yourself with a 7.3 / 6.9 idi without a intercooler running 20psi of boost good luck it will destroy said engine quickly before you could even harness the power or finish a dyno run.

He has a ats 093/factory turbo kit with a stage 1 drop in turbo from idiperformance.com The turbo is not enough to completely add a turbo to a n/a truck, it is a upgrade to your existing ats 093/factory turbo kit. I have one and,its amazing

3 inch dp and 4 inch straight. It is the stage 1 turbo with 10 blades, stock is 11 and that quiets things down a bit.

How did you weld the steel vband to the cast iron elbow?
@jdoerr779 Жыл бұрын
Since no one responded to your comment I will. I welded a 3” mild steel v band to my factory turbo elbow. I used 3/32” 7018 at 85 amps DC on my Hobart Stickmate. I tacked up the part, did a bit of preheat to the elbow , fully welded the v-band on, and let it cool while feathering a torch over the part every minute or two just to slow down the air quenching. Probably a waste of time to be honest. I had my turbocharger out a week ago for something unrelated and my weld has not cracked after a year of it being in there. I have hit 1250°F on the pyro plenty of times. Enjoy.
@rkzooplays2 жыл бұрын
so could i do this with a stock ats turbo?
@skeeettzzzz6 жыл бұрын
Is that just the standard turbo outlet with a 3in band welded on? Doesn't seem like it would make that big of a difference.
@airplanekid3336 жыл бұрын
Think fluids, a funnel that starts at around 4 inch into 2-1/2, the flow is going to back up in the funnel. Same happens with high velocity hot gases, 3 inch will free up the flow and not cause a restriction. This gained 2 psi!
@skeeettzzzz6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm didn't think of it that way. Wonder what it would do for a factory Garrett turbo 😏

How much more hp would you say it has now with upgraded turbo and injectors, exhaust, notice a big difference towing?
@airplanekid3336 жыл бұрын
Relatively speaking, fuel wasn't increased (stage 1's inject fuel in a shorter amount of time over stock but still isn't increased) and the rest is all air, better flow in the exhaust, better flowing turbo brought lower egt's. Iprolly around 10/20 hp gain but it is tough to say as I haven't towed or dyno'd yet, still need to get it timed properly. I noticed it is snappier/ better throttle response. End goal is 250hp/400tq and only gonna get there with more fuel.
