That might be just a touch optimistic. 12%-15% loss with a manual trans is typical on a chassis dyno. It's probably closer to 285 flywheel. Either way, I'm not shitting on the truck. It makes good power and torque for what it is... 👍

Hell yeah brother! That's some great torque for an idi! Really fucking awesome. You pretty much made identical power as a 6.0l powerstroke IMO that's really impressive.

Man I miss my old '94 IDI factory turbo. Wasn't fast but it was a cool truck. I did the ATS upgrade kit on it with the 3" downpipe, 4" exhaust with a 4" Walker truck resonator on it dumped before the axle, gave it a nice growl almost like a Cummins.

What's up with your truck man? Idis have a few parts that can easily go bad and really affect the engine, but unless it has super high miles/ hours they generally don't need a rebuild.

Bad ass, really enjoying your build so far... im currently pulling my 93 idi turbo for a new oil pan gasket and oil cooler rebuild, planning on using some r&d components. I definitely want to relocate that stupid turbo... Looking forward to a follow up vid and seeing what you do down the road.

Damn I figured it would be close to stock turbo numbers (slightly above) so I could rock the head bolts. Studs are always the best idea I suppose. Seems like 12 psi-ish is what Most idi boys will run before Throwing in studs. How is your set up holding up? Still rocking 90cc/hx35/stock injectors?

Yea im a big fan of overkill thats why inhabe studs and its sleeved with just a 90 pump, the only thing stopping me from more power is a bigger pump at the moment, injectors might help a little bit but the pump and turbo capabilities is where you get your power from

The turbo is a hx35 coldside hx40 hotside with an 18cm housing, stock turbo injectors, and the front bumper is from a 2008-10 superduty thanks for liking her!

I got my R&D Kit installed on stock internals and head bolts. 360k on original engine and no trouble yet. Running the stock IP for now until I build my 2nd engine studded all around before I go all out. The Stage 1 S257 is pretty good for what I'm wanting

sounds amazing i just bought one a few months ago and was obviously not well taken care of by the previous owner and had to do some work on my own just to have it running properll but more or less what was the cost on the build just on the engine and im having trouble figuring out why the computer wont respond to my obd1 reader at all but i notice near the ecu connecter looks like they were trying to bypass somethin and i dont wanna mess with it, the real question is could i possibly take it to you to work on

There is no code reader on these trucks. The only code reader it has is for the trans controller. I spent 10k on the engine work and turbo work

I’m currently building a 7.3 idi I read on one of your comments that you had yours sleeved. Is it important to have that done. I took my block to a engine shop to have it honed and new rings put on from R&D I feel that the engine shop has no idea about these engines. (Because when I mentioned about the gapless R&D piston ring pack he was saying the gap is good for them which it is not) i was told my engine has 49k miles the inside looked pretty good I could still see some cross hatching in about the bottom half of all the walls. So I guess my question is should I have it sleeved

Always sleeve it helps strengthen the block and also help prevent cavitation which is extremely important in the engines as it is a common problem also, look into making sure you use the right coolant additive that prevents cavitation

Yes this is rwhp No we have not calculated the losses, but its 4.10 rear with a 3000ft driveshaft I'm sure 30+% Is lost through that combo

I would by pass the control module that heats up the glow plugs and install a push button... I fought mine blowing out my plugs for 6 yrs until I did this. I haven't replaced one plug since.

Sleeved for strength, cavitation is an issues with these idi's and no they are sleeves are the size for 7.3 pistons

Mine makes around 230 hp and 460 tq i have a r&d 90cc hypermax turbo with ww2 intercooler from a 5.9 cummins. Still have the t19 4 speed. Also makes 21 psi i need a bigger turbo

Special crank triple turbo specialty built pump is just a couple of the things to list that can be done to an IDI. There's a big list better do some more research before you go calling somebody a liar BITCH!!!!!! Now I don't think this guy wants a pissing contest on his channel so show a little respect....

@@markrich3271 -- It's definitely worth hopping up a 7.3 IDI in good condition and low miles. It's a solid platform to work from. 350 HP at the rear wheels would do the trick, and is easily attainable.
