12:00 THANK YOU for potentially saving my truck from burning to the ground. I saw the part at 12:00 in the fire hazard recall on the brake switch. Just called the dealer and my truck needs the switch recall done still along with two of my other buddies so far.

Sir, I bought a 1995 7.3L with 224000 miles on it in may of last year. This truck is in immaculate condition. Having said that, i just saw the reference to the recall on the cruise control/override switch. I went to check my truck, and sure enough, it has the old style. I am going to get this replaced ASAP. Thank you for the safety information. I also agree with your comment about what you do is not for the sole source of making money. Customer service is more important. If you take care of your customer and treat them well and fairly, they will keep coming back. More then likely, they will refer people. One again, thank you for the safety information. Respectfully, Kendall

Diggin' these new videos! I don't work on diesels very often, so every vid you post is a learning experience for me. THANKS Bill! I also know where I'd buy my next truck if I decide to go oil burner. :)

I started on the 6.9s. Got out of the "biz" in '98. But was and still am passionate about it. I guess that's why I watch these vids about "obsolete" engines. Arggg, In my day they were cutting edge. Powerstroke was a marketing moniker...sales folk invented. The old was called "IDI", the new was call 7.3 DIT...hehe, powerestroke. I have the original spiral bound training book with that moniker on it...DIT. Direct Injected Turbo. Most don't know that. I'm sure this response is bound for oblivion but felt the effort to type it was negligible so I did. I really enjoy the PS videoes and the passion. For my retirement, I'd like to get my damned hands dirty again... really.

Its exactly how I learned most of my mechanical knowledge: by watching Dad when he didnt want me in the way. Fast forward to when inwas an adult, on my own with my own cars, I was able to do brakes, etc that a lot of people never learned how to do. Now, my son has his own car and he's done the same thing while I've worked on our cars.

I was hoping that you'd talk about the cruise control sensor on the master cylinder. I got lucky when the one in my 97 F250 7.3 CCSB failed, it just popped the fuse in the wire harness, replaced it with one from NAPA and it's worked good so far. Also, replacing the burned out 3rd brake light restored my cruise control.

I was working for ford during the brake switch recall wire roll out. It does not just affect the trucks. It affects most all fords with the master cylinder switch. The problem is not so much the switch itself, as the circuit is hard wired straight to the battery with NO FUSE. So, if, big if, that switch leaks to the point it shorts, the brake fluid soaked switch, housing, and associated wiring, can be a direct short from the battery to ground. This turns the wire into a basically a long red hot igniter, in turn setting anything affected, on fire. The oldest car I did this recall to was from the mid 70s, so if your Ford is pre-2005ish, have it checked by someone that knows what to look for. The repair, is a late model switch, and a pigtail adapter with a built in fuse. It will also have (or it did have at one point) a tag clearly labeling the new part on the pigtail near the switch.

Also, have FORD run your vIN for recalls if you are not sure, those letters don't always reach the correct, last, or current owner. Especially since this one affected the majority of their cars.

Thank you for such a great video and contribution to help veterans. Helping veterans is something my daughter and I work on in our community. I have a 96 and am only owner. I was scared to death to take fuel pump out as it was the original and I have 300,000 miles on the truck. However, I was able to get it out without any issues. Hopefully you are still answering questions. Did that pickup in the video just fire up after everything was installed or do you have a way to prime them and get them going after putting in new fuel pump?

at 15:40 on video turbo comment about glue on edge of compressor housing it came that way from the factory my 1997 obs bought brand new with 11 miles have owned it 23 years bought nov. 28 1996, has that glue on it no one has ever turned a wrench on my truck but me , 3 mechanical fuel pumps one starter and one alternator, one idler tension for belt [upgraded to 1999 idler ] one air conditioner compressor, great truck as clean as this one never added oil between oil changes every 5000 miles shell rotella,am putting a electrical fuel pump with fuel bowl delete right now, only 230500 miles I believe that the engine and drive train should be as clean as the rest of truck clean engine helps displace heat and won, cook your gaskets making brittle and leak, would have loved this video the first time I changed that damn fuel pump

funny because I had my brake harness replaced at Ford in 2012 under the recall (got a letter in the mail). They replaced the old one which looks like the new one you put on with a harness with a blue sticker like the old one you took off......wierd? Maybe the original switch didn't have a removable pigtail at the housing......can't remember.

Yes, BTW, brake switches were made by Texas Instruments...Attleboro, MA....quite familiar with the unfortunate leakage of said membranes in said switches...folks croaked because of(Condos with parking under)...TI subsid was called Sensata...Attleboro too...TI company nonetheless. Happens and by no means engineering explicit fault...just happens. Dammit, I'd love to return to injector O-rings and not worry about other BS.
@Mebob20018 жыл бұрын
IMO that was abig recall for those switches, but they missed ALOT of them, didnt send warning letter's, i had my explorer at ford like 3 years ago, and buddy was diagnoseing my idle issue because i was an apprentice and didnt know what to do yet, no word of a lie buddy mentioned the recall, ordered parts, while checking the wiring for my issue the wires melted on that switch right in front of him. ofc they repaired everything that was damaged but just shows you should open your hood and check.
