New Threat was amazing! I remember playing it with my cousin and fighting a new boss which I think was Omega Weapon. It was such a grind. We had to set our Materia in such a specific way so that with every attack we endured we would autoheal, Attack and get what other commands we could in right away as a counter, as if we tried to do it ourselves we would die. We eventually did it but that fight felt more like using a Materia version of the Gambit system from 12 than a normal fight, and it was amazing! We never finished it unfortunately so we will have to try again but that fight stood out so much as it made us think completely differently and plan so meticulously about how we went about it

Crazy idea, for the A.I. up-scaled background texture folks. Train a texture scaler A.I. using center segments of the new FF VII Ever Crisis backgrounds as the before/ input, and use center segments of the classic FF VII backgrounds as the after/ output. Then once trained with enough samples, in theory you could use the A.I. to fill in the black/ blank sides of the classic FF VII game backgrounds, creating WIDESCREEN backgrounds that MATCH the classic style. Mind blown baby!

I remember getting FFVII on PC when it came out. I'd already finished FFVII on PSX and we just got our first family PC. All I'd ever hear from friends in school was how much better games looked on PCs. I don't think I noticed the lower res backgrounds or capped frame rates. To be honest, I didn't get very far. As soon as I heard Nobuo Uematsu's score being butchered and processed through my onboard soundcards midi bank, I ducked out. I was 10 maybe 11 at the time. But I couldn't do it. The music was then and still is now, such a huge influence in my life, I couldn't bare to hear it in such poor quality. So what did I use the game for? Well, you could play the FMVs right off the disc by exploring it. So basically, I'd bought a cutscene theatre for my pc and you know what... It was worth it. Might be hard to imagine for people who have grown up with KZbin etc in their lives but being able to access cutscenes from a videogame on a whim back then was like some sort of magic trick. Friends would call over and ask if they could watch the ending again or the FMV of bustin' out of shinra HQ on a bike and a three wheeler that would make Del Boy envious.

One more for French users (if there are any here) : the NEO-midgar mod. For context, the original french FF7 translation was extremely bad, because localisation used both the japanese and english versions as base while not understanding the context. There are many errors, poorly worded sentences, etc. The NEO MIDGAR mod completely retranslated the game using the japanese version as base and also unlocked the two side-quests lacking in the final version (the letters of kalm and the mayor's password).

I'm just going off this videos footage, so just from that footage it looks like the _smoother 60fps battles_ mod *isn't actually making the battels performance better at all* if the frames were really being put up to 60fps, the fights would still be the same speed as they are in the playstation version, character animations, icons above their heads etc. But instead it looks like it's speeded everything up *to* 60 frames. instead of adding any extra frames or upping the performance. If so, then its still the 15 frames it was, its just the mod makes it so we get to see those 15 frames, speeded up to 60, as if its on fast forward. It hasn't added an extra 45 frames to every second of the intial FPS, its just speeded it up. So either the mod is a sham or....the footage used in the video isnt actually from the mod and is just basically the footage on the left speeded up to look like it is, because all the stats in both pieces of footage are exactly the same. which is weird, why not just actually show the mod in action. So either the mod is a sham, or the footage is a sham.

While I personally feel that the psx version is the definitive experience regardless of the quality of some of these mods, it's still a cool thing. The only thing I can say for sure is that SE is being absolutely lazy about their ports of their psx era final fantasies. Especially if you consider something like remako which can vastly improve the experience and was done for free by a passionate amateur fanbase. Shame on you SE. I know most of you guys may not agree but I personally feel SE has become a subpar game maker once hironobu sakaguchi left. They will most likely follow Konami within a decade after they realize that dumping money into trying to keep up with the triple A prestige game development arms race is not what made you an iconic game dev in the 90s.

I feel the difference is that sakaguchi play tested his games obsessively and was not purely driven by the business aspect. Yoshinori kitase is probably the last remaining old guard that seems to have half a sense of what he's doing but sakaguchi wouldve smacked him upside his head for some of the latest things he's done.

I've been trying to use 7th heaven but cant get the catalog to show in the mod manager. Any ideas?

This is by no means advice from an expert, but generally when mods have issues it's because a file somewhere wasn't extracted properly. I overlook this stuff all the time, so I hope that doesn't seem condescending. Another frequent issue is running files as Administrator. In the event neither quick fix solves the issue, it's worth making sure all your mods are up to date.

@@12ealDealOfficial you dont sound condescending in the slightest. I made a separate copy of the game in another file whilst keeping the file directory towards that new copy. I also ran as administrator but in the end I still couldn't get even my manually downloaded mods to run the game properly. I'm so ADD that I've already moved on but if anyone knows why I cant see the catalog in 7th heaven mod manager I would appreciate it still.

Wasn't the Definitive edition mod created by 4-8 productions from the beginning of the video?

You could write about the game’s themes and its philosophy. Or just mod Moogles to Mogryu whatever.
