Excellent non biased reviews, direct, enthusiastic and showing pros and cons. Like the humour you build in. I have been a Hiker for over 50 years, was a Search and Rescue Volunteer too. In the market for backpacking/travel pack. Likely will get the Osprey Stratos 34, which will allow me to lightweight tent camp for multi day trips, go on larger day excursions (esp with full frame DSLR camera and two zoom lenses), and also be used to travel to Ecuador and to complete the Camino (approx 825 km over 6 weeks) in Spain. I like the idea of my pack being able to be carry on sized, so 35 litres is probably my maximum. Thanks for the Review, you Guys are Awesome! Greetings from Sunny Ottawa, Canada!

I think I fell in love with the nomatic travel bag. Thank you very much for the video, your explanations were very complete. I know it would be quite tedious, but it would be very favorable for those of us who do not have the backpack close, to be able to see it full and thus better dimension the space it offers. I use the Peak Design with shoulder pads because their straps are way too thin and designed for someone much smaller than 6'3". What is dope about the PD is that that outer expandable org pocket makes a perfect compression pouch for like 7-10 XL button downs/dress shirts/pants folded in quarters. Compress it down and they stay perfect, and then I can get away with one of their large packing cubes on the inside, wash pouch, and my Sony A7iii. Plus room for a pair or two of Vivobarefoots. But what I wish is that someone would review the Radian by Mission Workshop (in dark multi-cam of course). But hey, great videos. Super pro production work. Nice job!

@@alexiscastro8257 Hi Alexis, I purchased them on Amazon. The ones I ordered are no longer available but they seem to be just like the ones in the link below. When talking about the Aer Capsule why did you suggest the 35 over the 40 for one bag travel? Since some airlines are more generous with personal item sizing, wouldn't it be prudent to choose the 40. Then underpack it if it's bigger than the personal item size with other less generous airlines?
@Nomads.Nation
@Nomads.Nation 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! In this day and age many airlines won’t let you bring a 40 liter, so in my opinion a 35 liter is an overall safer size for an all-rounder OBT.

Having spent a few weeks in Asia (Philippines), I find myself rather lost to describe the ideal travel backpack. The problem-the present trend to limit carry-on luggage weights. Literally, for one airline, my wife and I found ourselves trying to remove things from our carry-on (personal item) backpacks and carry-on size suitcases and stuff the excess in checked luggage which was then classified as overweight. Quite literally, airlines are tending towards this now and finding ways to charge customers for items that they should be carrying freely or would have been carrying freely before subtle changes in policies. Does not bode well for larger backpacks as carry-on. So I found myself re-watching your travel backpack videos and pondering if any of these backpacks could have helped my situation.
@Nomads.Nation
@Nomads.Nation Жыл бұрын
Yea dude, it's tough out there and getting tougher. Truth be told, if you want to be a TRUE one bagger, you gotta learn how to live out of a 25 liter lightweight backpack that can fit under the seat in front of you. Otherwise, you will be at the mercy of budget airlines. Or, just say screw it, it's the price to travel in 2023, and don't stress over it
@arlencarlson
@arlencarlson Жыл бұрын
@@Nomads.Nation I think one of the biggest challenges as of late has been, at least for the North American airlines, we have become normalized to the airlines losing luggage. So, the tendency to pack it “all” in carry-on and personal items. Well, that doesn’t cut it with the weight restrictions in other airlines in the world-who are more or less working on the premise that they will NOT lose your checked luggage-put the real weight there and don’t worry about it. Yes, I can see benefits in learning to live out of lightweight backpacks-it is a challenge to get to that point.

Able Carry Max is a great choice but rmbr it depends on the airline. Budget airlines have different size requirements. I think you can actually go smaller - something around 15-20L so it’s more compact, will fit under most seats, and can double as a daypack/EDC. Check out Aer Day Pack 2, Modern Dayfarer or Nomatic backpack (we’ve done reviews on all)

What I didn't agree with was the weights of most of the packs going close to 2kg and costing a bomb to purchase. That's kind of bad for 1 bag travel (especially for longer durations) because that's a lot of weight already eaten up by just the bag alone, which spends most of its time sitting in the corner of the hotel room. You'd have to give up a lot of stuff which usually ends up as a slightly miserable time or a lot of laundry trips. I've been traveling with a Naturehike 35+5L ultralight main (700g), an REI Flash 22 daypack (370g), and a Decathlon foldable messenger sling (120g) for extra space, all at a total weight of under 1.2kg. The only thing I hate about my setup is the Naturehike being a cinch rolltop tube which makes packing a bit troublesome. I've looked high and low for a clamshell ultralight alternative but it doesn't exist as far as I know. I'm actually considering the The North Face Base Camp Voyager Duffel 42L which seems like a good pack at just over 1kg.
@Nomads.Nation

Def agree, a lot of these great travel packs have tons of features... which means additional weight, making one bag travel harder
@jdshl8423
@jdshl8423 Жыл бұрын
@@Nomads.Nation , I find it quite insane that you would agree with me. It's like saying these really shouldn't be the "7 Best Travel Backpacks". For short trips, sure, because you don't need to pack very much. But this is definitely not going to work well at all for one-bag travel for any extended period. The only reason I haven't bought the The North Face Base Camp Voyager Duffel 42L is the silly price tag. I might eventually just go back to Decathlon for one of their new backpack duffels which cost far less and weigh in at around 1kg.

@@jdshl8423 well I think the thing you are missing is that this isn't a 'best one bag travel bags' roundup. It's just for travel backpacks. Most people don't care about one bag travel, they just want a travel backpack that looks, feels, and functions great - that's what this video is for.

So yes, I agree, but the onebag community has a tendency to prefer backpacks that are around the 30-35L mark. While a 40L is good to go for larger airlines, on budget airlines it can be tough to get away with it. Totally love the Akra!

Hi Nomad Nation, Good review of travel packs. Can’t go wrong with any of the 7 you selected. I did get the PD travel pack but under heavy load, it does get to me and I do carry like a mule. Just not all day from airport to airport, hotel, meetings, mostly for business. I then tried the Bellroy’s Transit Plus 38l and it was what I wanted the PD to have but missing is a better shoulder and back harness system. The material are nice quality and it has two huge water bottle sides that is zipped up for low profile. And the front vertical zip has organization which makes it more useful. It even fits my 16” laptop easily. The hip belt, albeit small, can be stowed away and good enough given the shoulder strap is comfortable Hope you can add this to the list in the future as another travel bag option.
