The fun never stops at West Ham under Harry Redknapp. No sooner had the 94-95 season finished the squad go on a gruelling tour of Australia, supposedly as a celebration of the club’s centenary but really it was just a bit of a damp squib. The tour does unearth Aussie talent Stan Lazaridis however who joins fellow antipodean Robbie Slater signed from Blackburn to replace Matty Holmes. The big summer signing is Marco Boogers from Sparta Rotterdam - for anything between £800,000 and £1.2m depending on who you talk to. In just his second game, Boogers comes on as a sub and is dismissed for an appalling tackle of Gary Neville. He then retreats back to Holland and goes AWOL. Only two points ate garnered from the opening six games - but that’s the least of Redknapp’s problems as Dicks faces a disciplinary hearing after a clash with Chelsea’s John Spencer, and he resorts to playing goalkeeper Les Sealey up front at Highbury after Dicks is sent off and all outfield subs are used. Not only that but Redknapp’s relationship with Don Hutchison is crumbling. Not enough points, star players suspended, missing or out of favour. Something needs to change and soon.
