In the boss fight in Deus Ex, I just got the upgrades that let me hack and carry turrets, then went into the boss room while carrying a turret I had named Harry. Boss fight started, boss got mowed down by Harry. I give Harry a hug for doing a good job.

denlara yep, Harry saved my bacon that day. Low on ammo, no healing items left and of course I got the upgrade so I got my augs shut down. No idea how I would've gotten out of that mess otherwise

I played a dlc level before I got to that point and unlocked some kind of massively OP grenade launcher. This super-hyped boss fight lasted about 10 seconds even with the screen going weird. I hadn't cheated the game, but it still felt like I'd cheated myself.

I remember once when my younger brother was messing around with Age of Empires II: Age of Kings he was in a sandbox/creative mode pitting different enemies against each other to see who had the advantage over the other in preparation for campaign battles. Naturally once things started getting monotonous he used cheats to summon a fleet of sports cars to clear the map and win. What happened next was hilarious. He started seeing red sports cars fighting his blue cars and he was like wait what? Turns out the cars were getting converted by a bunch of monks in a closed off area of the map. Literally the only time I've ever experienced the computer take advantage of a cheat code in such a way.

Flowey with 6 souls is taking Player's power to save and load for himself and all, but Sans cheats despite being a normal monster. He's the only one to dodge, doesn't give you invincibility frames, swaps his attacks randomly while they are still happening and even tries to stall you indefinitely by not ending his turn.

Honorable mentions: Omega Flowey: He wipes your save before the fight, saves and loads during the fight, and uses the souls to attack you Sans: He can dodge, his have no invincibility frames, as well as poison, switching his attacks mid turn, and then tries to essentially break the game. Course, that's what you get for being a genocide :)

Sans honestly doesnt deserve mentioning for invisibility frames as each attack has its own amount of invisibility frames, sans just has very little of them and you can use cloudy glasses and notebook to increase you invisibility frames to make the fight easier. Also "poison" is more in players favor because it delays the damage and you cant die until it runs out.

Going WAY back here - the Sanity meter in Eternal Darkness. Every monster encounter brought down your meter depending on how powerful they were. It was possible to play the game on minimal sanity but as you made your way through the level your character would hallucinate. Fake volume manipulation and crash screens, blood dripping from the ceiling, being decapitated by an invisible force would have me wondering what I did wrong only for a bright flash to take my character back to reality with a desperate cry of "THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!". I remember trying to save on low sanity once only for panic to shoot through me as ALL my saves were deleted, it turned out to be another character hallucination

What about Lance from Pokémon? In Red and Blue he has a Dragonite that knows Barrier, which is impossible for it to know. In Gold, Silver and Crystal, he has three Dragonite under level 55, the minimum level for evolution, as well as an Aerodactyl with Rock Slide, which wasn’t possible to have in the generation 2 games. I don’t think he earned his position through honest means.

Where is literally every final boss from Undertale? Sans removes invincibility frames and has attacks persist after hitting you, not to mention his dodging capability. Omega Flowey accesses the save files, Asriel is literally warping the game around him as you fight, even Asgore breaks the mercy button and 4th wall simultaneously.

The original Mario Kart was the worst. Every character had a specific item (i.e DK had bananas; Mario had star power) that they could activate every 3 seconds or so. So when we tried to beat the game on 150CC, we were always battling for first with a Mario, that for 9/10th of the race, had star power active...

How did you not mention Eternal Darkness for the GameCube? Elder Gods reaching through time and space to troll you by making you think they deleted your entire save game data, or that your TV lost game signal, or that the volume was being lowered at random. Bit of a missed opportunity there.

3:40 Of course, the reason Bowyer does this is because Mario is kind of cheating too, going at him three against one. He specifically shouts "No Fair!" before rigging the controls. I got one for you, the xenomorph in Alien: Isolation. This is a game with a clever and subtle way of letting the villain cheat. Like most games of the genre, the heroine is subject to a deadly game of cat-and-mouse, where she's the mouse. Technically, however, there are two "cats", as the game gives the xenomorph two completely separate AIs; the first knows exactly where Amanda is at all times, while the second, which controls the monster's body, does not. The first AI cannot blatantly tell the second where she is, but it gives hints to point the second in the right direction. (Kind of like a game of blind-man's bluff; when the xenomorph is moving towards Amanda, the first AI gives a "getting warmer" signal to the second, and if it's going the wrong way, it gives a "getting colder" signal".) This serves to stack the deck squarely in the monster's favor.

@Sylis TM Well, I'm not a programmer, but assume with most standard stealth-based games, the game itself has a "main AI" different from "boss AI", meaning all games have multiple AIs, one for the actual game, and one for bosses. Thing is, most of the time the "boss AI" behaves in a manner determined by programming. Not like the "main AI" controls it like a radio controlled toy car. In this case, however, it's different.

@Sylis TM That's actually not true. Well not anymore, for a while AI were designed to be directly linked to the player's input and location and then dumbed down a bit to make it fair. However, gamers quickly caught on to this especially at the competitive level. A.I's today usually attempt to be more sophisticated, making them act and decide for themselves the best course of action based on the player's motions. However, AI, still have a lightening fast response time and so often they have to be put under human limitations like "accidentally" messing up button thresholds, misjudging distances, lacking precision and so on. Typically this level of sophistication is reserved for stealth games as shooters like DOOM don't really expect the enemy to do much out of point and shoot.

Crosscode final boss, every time you manage to deal just a little bit of damage to him he buffs his health bar with quite literally 10 digit figures. Fortunately your hacker friend sergey is able to buff up your attack as well so that even your weakest attack deals well over a million damage.

The Ramblin' Evil Mushroom for Earthbound deserves a mention: if it uses it's spore attack, you are stuck with a mushroom on your head, which randomly changes the directional inputs, not once, but for as long as it is applied. It's also hard to remove, requiring you to awkwardly stumble your way to a healer, and there is a goo chance you will get spored again!

Doopliss in Paper Mario 2: Thousand Year Door. He steals Mario's identity, the "L" from your text input menu so you can't just guess his real name (his weakness) with a walkthrough AND your party (since they think he's you, so they fight on his side in the boss battle, upgrades and all ;_;). That's some next level trickery.

@@knownas2017 : I guess you must be better than me at keeping calm when going through this the first time around. This fight isn't that hard, but most players are so thrown off by the change in gameplay and presentation the first time around so they make mistakes and die at least once. People would often even joke about how you know your Steam friend is fighting Flowey when they boot up Undertale several times in a row. Flowey himself even taunts you when you boot the game back up after losing to him.

@@Hisha1303That calmness bit seems true enough. From being inches away of getting hit from a car, or being stalked by wolves. I keep calm in most situations. I always thought keeping calm would reward me with the ability to think rationally and make minor mistakes. Although I'm not always calm. For some reason, sometimes during 'sad' events I lose myself. I start breathing heavily, but come back to it in 2-5 seconds. I don't really know why- Anyways, Undertale never had a moment like that for me. I feel like I didn't get to see the whole game because I didn't die at the end. :l It seems really cool- But at least know I know about it. Thank you.

The whole final area of FFVIII. The game takes away your _menu options,_ like Item or Magic, leaving you only with Attack, and you have to run around a maze and find them before you can use them again. You can't even heal or save.

as always, loved the video. what about Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. you progress by casting spells that drain your sanity, causing console glitches, added to the fact that you're playing this at 3am on your brother's surround sound system that causes the eerie spell voices to bounce around your head in the living room, making you semi-paranoid for the next week with life at large

Maybe not explicitly a boss but in the first Watchdogs game there's a point in the story where you're trying to identify a hacker who, if I remember correctly, hacked you to steal the data you hacked into Blume to steal. This leads you to a random nightclub where the hacker hacks your hacky profiling gear so that you can't identify who is the hacker. Although it should become a bit more obvious that in the sea of indistinguishable NPCs it's probably, inexplicably, the DJ in the big light up mouse head.

Eternal Darkness will remain one of my favourite games. The sanity meter was great. From low level indicators like busts moving to look at you, to upside down rooms, all the way to the the times it had me scrambling for my remote. A play through where you play purposefully playing completely insane was the most fun.

bravely second end layer had an interesting moment, one boss at one point seems to imply it is going to delete your save file. At the time when I played it I actually got shocked that it could happen. Was a great moment of breaking the 4th wall.

What about the final confrontation with Scarecrow in Batman: Arkham Asylum? The game glitches out and you're put back to the start of the game's intro, where you and Joker have switched places. Also he kills you and the game over screen says to use the center stick to dodge Joker. Then again that's not really an interactive segment.

No anonymous revenge hack from hacknet? The hacker forkbombs (overloads and crashes your desktop) and deletes the GUI. It was so realistic that I, a CS student who built my own desktop, thought the crash was legit and tried resetting causing me to lose progress. Also with no GUI you are forced to surf the web with text to download a new GUI by revenge hacking the hacker. If your smart on your second playthrough you can copy your own GUI and hide it on another part of the system. When this part of game starts just copy pasta yourself to freedom!
