I'm fairly certain that Wolverine is one of the only heroes to not have to deal with clones/mind control/shapeshifters/whatever in the comics (aside from his death, that is)...he's either too difficult to duplicate (it's rather tough to replicate his toughness, fighting style, and endurance, for example) or simply too powerful to contain safely for long periods of time (which would likely be necessary for proper replication). Hell, whoever was planning to mess with him would have to infiltrate far and distract quite a few other characters to be able to get away with it...between long-time teammates (Cyclops, Colossus, Professor X, Storm, Beast, etc.), regular opponents (Magneto, Sabertooth, etc.), mental probers (Emma Frost), mystics (Dr. Strange), and even characters that can denote people by *scent* (Sabertooth, X-23, Wolfsbane), there would have to be a *seriously* coordinated attempt made by a well-connected and -funded group to have any success for a long time.

Not issued by a boss, but in Dragonsphere you get quizzed by sentient vines about an evil sorcerer's eye colour, scars and favourite food before you're allowed to enter sorcerer's lair to try and defeat him. Theoretically this proves you really are one of his trusted minions, but I couldn't help but think about what kind of minion would be familiar with the scars on his body...

As you might have been able to tell by seeing Spider-Man and Wolverine together in a video game in 2008, the licensing issues complicating Marvel Studios' use of those characters in movies don't apply to most other media, as those are completely different licenses mostly managed by Marvel Entertainment. And in any case, it's kind of embarrassing that you assume one character has to be in everything.

It's good to remember that the Deadpool movies are only decent based on the charm of the cast. You need a Ryan Reynolds to make something like Deadpool appeal to people with healthy social lives.

The web of shadows quiz was made 100x harder for me by the fact that a. I was 11 and knew nothing about Spiderman lore and 2. It would bug out when wolverine asked a question it, instead showing a few seconds of blank screen followed by having to guess the answer to a question I hadn't heard. What about Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles? Spoilers for that game: At the end of the game, the final battle at some point quizzes you on all the things that happened throughout your journey, meaning you have to remember the SPECIFIC events that happened to you in that playthrough. This is made particularly great because you keep a journal of all these events that you can go back to anytime, so you can prepare yourself before the final battle.

Construct 7 in the Ridorana Lightbhouse raid in Final Fantasy 14 has you do math in the middle of the fight. It sets your HP to a single digit, then you have to add 1, 2, 3, or 4 (or nothing) to your HP by standing in the correct circle (or not standing in one) in order to end up with a number that either can be divided by 2, 3, 4, or 5, or is a prime number. Multiple times. And it's different for everyone so you can't just follow where everyone else is standing!

Pokemon Red, Blue, and all subsequent remakes count if you look at the Cinnabar Island Gym. The Gym Leader, Blaine, is a former scientist whose gym contains several quiz terminals. If you answer the question correctly, you get to move on. If you answer incorrectly, you have to fight one of Blaine's gym trainers and their fire pokemon. However, Blaine's battle itself is less of a quiz due to the nature of Pokemon Gym Leaders, unless the only questions are 'what are fire pokemon strong against' and 'what are fire pokemon weak against'

Sanity: Aiken's Artifact The 2nd boss of the game puts you on a quiz show where you get brutally murdered if you get a question wrong. You are locked in a cage above a bottomless pit, one guy is tied upside down over a tank of water, and another guy is trapped inside a box with a buzzsaw ready to slice. IF you manage to be the last one alive, you get the honour of being personally murdered by the boss and his psionic, knife hurling showgirls. That game was nuts.

KOTOR has some good examples of this, though not exactly boss battles. Three that spring to mind are the Rakatan computer guarding the Star Map on Kashyyyk, Jorak Uln in the Tomb of Tulak Hord on Korriban and the Rakatan prisoner inside the Mysterious Box/Mind Prison.

Star Wars KotOR had a nasty segment on Manaan where breaking into the sith base required you to pick between a very hard persuasion with a prisoner, cutting down a large horde of enemies in their hangar or forging a sith passcard which made you do math questions which started easy but veered way into advanced math in the last two sections. Ill take the lightsaber hangar fight over complex math in a Star Wars game any day.

I came to think about "the hex " ( a follow up to "pony island " as far as I remember) in which there is a RPG Part with a sorceress in which you are asked questions by a Sphinx. It is literally a deadly game show since it asks quite unfair questions which can only be answered through advice from in-game programmed stream chat and you are damaged quite harshly for wrong answers. Mavis peepers from return to zork. The town's teacher WILL kill you if you get the quiz wrong. Her top student, Rebecca, gives you another quiz *at shotgun point* and again will kill you for failing. 90s DRM was *not* kidding around.

gruntys quiz doesn't stop with the ToT segment, in the real boss fight against her and the hag 1, the drill tank that you saw in the first cutscene as the final boss gruntilda will pop out of the hag 1 at regular intervals to give you a question regarding your play through and even the previous game. ranging from easy questions like "what color is my scarf?" to difficult questions like "what is my name spelled backwards?" answer a question right and she will use slower attacks, answer incorrectly or time out the small timer however and grunty will instead be far more aggressive with her spells. it must also be said that like ToT you have three answers to chose from, GOOD LUCK!

Technically the Sphynx guy in Wario Master of Disguise quizzes you to death. If you got even one of his riddles wrong you lost health. It would continue until you either die, or you beat all of his riddles.

Gruntildas Furnace Fun should be here too. Its full of difficult minigames and instant death squares for fails. Even speedrunners have several exploits just because of how long this segment can be.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, there's a Thwomp that blocks your way to one of the stone keys you need in order to progress the game. He challenges you to a game show quiz, and if you lose, you end up having to fight a whole bunch of clefts. I think there's actually a second Thwomp somewhere else in the game that does the same thing.

Yeah, the second one was in the X-Naut Fortress, and if I'm remembering correctly, you have to fight the strongest variety of Yux, the Z-Yux, if you answer enough questions incorrectly. He drops the Elevator Key when you win.

ngl, that Modok fight was prolly my favorite boss fight in that game. Mostly cause you had to know shizz, or google it you know who you are, instead of the normal 'find boss-punch boss'

You forgot about Star Wars KoToR. During the Sith academy quest line there is a mission to find the former headmaster. He literally quizzed the player to DEATH by electrocuting you for every wrong answer.

Arguably, Gruntilda's *first* quiz show, Grunty's Furnace Fun, which appeared near the end of Banjo-Kazooie, is better-known, and also turns out to be more fun, since some of the "questions" are physical challenges. There's also the part where, although winning gets you Banjo's sister back, Grunty runs and tells you you'll have to sit and watch the credits. Which are fake credits. Yes, Grunty has a fondness for quizzing people. (And rhyming, though her sisters - who do NOT rhyme - force her to stop before they'll help her out.)
