Two quick corrections: the capitol city of Saskatchewan is not Saskatoon; it is Regina. There is a university in Regina, called, oddly, the University of Regina. Vancouver is not a capitol city. The capitol of British Columbia is Victoria, located on Vancouver Island. It also has a very fine university: the University of Victoria. I know you want to keep this short, but you should really talk about the weather issues in some of these cities. For example, the winter temperature in Saskatoon (University of Saskatchewan) can reach -40 degrees Celsius. Brandon is also very cold. Students need to be warned about this, particularly students coming from warm climates.

Before coming to Canada, it is very important for perspective students to study the geography. Why? Canada is very large and the temperatures vary greatly from summer to winter. Parts of Canada are very cold in the winter and the first purchase when arriving must be warm winter clothing: coat, sweaters, boots, mitts, etc. Budget $1000.00 (one thousand) to purchase clothing if you are going to the prairie provinces (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba) in cities such as Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Saskatoon, Brandon, Winnipeg. This is critical!! People freeze to death every year in Canada if not properly clothed. You can also lose various body parts to freezing: fingers, toes, feet, nose, ears, etc. Having a frozen hand amputated can ruin your day!! And I am not kidding. Dress properly!! Check out the city you are moving to for climate variations. Vancouver and Victoria are somewhat warmer, but you will need to at least purchase a warm coat. Heavy snowfall can be expected in all parts of Canada except the west coast (Vancouver and Victoria) but there is heavy and constant rain from October to April. Climate change may add to the extremes in temperatures and precipitation.

Hi Ada, I have a master’s degree in Nigeria already but I want to pursue another one in Canada. I noticed most of the schools offer a graduate certificate in the course I’m interested in. Please can I get the difference between that and masters. And if you’d advice an Intl to apply for the graduate certificate. Nice video btw. I’m new 😊
@adacanada2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lily, a graduate certificate course means certificate at a graduate level. It’s a certificate program that usually lasts for about 7 or 9 months to 1 year. The degree you’ll get at the end of the program is a certificate that says you’re certified in that course. Master’s degree is higher than graduate certificate - you get to specialize and focus on one aspect of the program and you’ll do research a lot. Master’s degree is either course-based (meaning that the MSc is taught in class) or research-based (you will conduct research under a supervisor and produce a thesis). Masters degree takes 1 - 2/3 years to complete (1 year completion if it’s a course-based masters or 2 - 3 year completion of it’s a research-based Masters). You will defend your thesis and graduate with a degree! Certificate is certificate, but Masters is a degree, just like the one you have from Nigeria. I wouldn’t advise anyone to go after a certificate from Nigeria because of the visa processing. It’s tedious and the chances of getting the study visa are very slim if applying for a graduate certificate course. Also, it may be challenging to convince the agent why you are pursuing a graduate certificate when you already have a masters degree, since masters is higher in level than a certificate. Your best bet is to go for another masters or a PhD. If you’re going to apply for another masters degree, it doesn’t necessarily have to be the same specialization as your masters from Nigeria, as long as your application can convince the IRCC agents why this is important to you, and what you hope to achieve with the degree. Hope this helps. 🤍

@adacanada2 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you’re applying for. Most people say colleges have less competition than universities, but my reality and personal experience was the opposite at that time because of the program. Colleges tend to be a lot cheaper than universities in terms of tuition. And yes, colleges have more admission intakes compared to universities. In my current reality and with my petroleum background and experience in Canada, there are little to no jobs in the oil and gas market. It is not a profitable career sector in the long run. There are other career sectors that are doing much better, are much more promising and have better stability than oil and gas. But heyyy, if oil and gas is what you want to pursue, if it’s where your dreams are at, then that’s okay too. I’m not stopping you. I was only offering my suggestion/opinion based on my experience.
