in brief: The video provides a comparison between the experiences of living in China and Canada. **Living in China:** 1. **Culture:** China boasts a rich history spanning 5,000 years, with a diverse culture ranging from ethnic groups, food, language, dialects, architecture, customs, traditional medicine, festivals, and more. While China isn't multicultural like Canada, it is diverse within itself, having 56 nationalities. 2. **Family-Oriented:** The Chinese culture places a significant emphasis on the family unit. The well-being and success of the entire family often take precedence over individual desires and ambitions. There's a strong value placed on taking care of and living with aging parents. 3. **Hardworking Ethic:** China is characterized by its hardworking nature. This is evident in the 9-9-6 work culture, which means working from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., six days a week. Both adults and children are dedicated to their work and studies. 4. **Safety:** China places a strong emphasis on public safety, with extensive use of surveillance cameras and facial recognition technology. 5. **Efficiency:** China values efficiency, evident in its rapid economic growth, e-commerce infrastructure, transportation, and digital payment systems. 6. **Food:** Chinese cuisine offers a vast variety, with delicious food available at affordable prices. **Living in Canada:** 1. **Multiculturalism:** Canada is an immigrant country, rich in ethnic and cultural diversity. The government promotes inclusion based on various factors like gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and religion. 2. **Individuality:** Canada values individuality and personal freedom, allowing each person to express and pursue their unique identities. 3. **Nature:** Canada, being a scenic country, has beautiful landscapes. People have a deep connection and respect for nature. For instance, in Vancouver, cutting down a tree on one's land without valid reasons and government permission is illegal. 4. **Food Safety:** Ingredients in Canada feel organic, and sometimes wild food can be found while hiking in forests. 5. **Pet-Friendly:** Canada is more pet-friendly compared to China. Canadian cities have numerous pet spaces in public facilities, restaurants, and trails. Canada also has robust laws protecting animals from neglect and harmful treatment. Cinthia Lin concludes by expressing her love for both countries and hopes to focus her channel on more culture-related content in the future. (Note: The video is based on Cinthia Lin's personal experiences and perspectives, and she emphasizes that there's no perfect country or city to live in. Each place has its pros and cons.)

I live in Hong Kong now. I lived in Toronto for 6 years in 199x, at that time, we could not make phone calls in TTC ( Metro in Toronto) as there was no signal. Now (30 years later), people still cannot make phone calls, still no signal. VS 30 years ago in China, many people were poor, technology was far behind. Now, I think only a very few Chinese people are really poor, the technology say aerospace, digital payment, ev, weapons, in China has been on the very advanced level

Also, the biggest difference is the government system. In the West, the people work for the government that works for big corporations (Oligarchy) whereas in China the government works for the people this is also the result of the high involvement of the people in government (almost 100 million party members, which is about 1 of 14 people is a party member) and it makes whole-process Democracy possible. I think in a healthy country/society, the people must understand and be involved in politics because otherwise, the corporations that hold power will also monopolize politics as well. When that happens, look at North America now, the people do not hold the power.
@PracticaProphetica
@PracticaProphetica 11 ай бұрын
If the government in China only works for the people (selfless) why are there so many billionaires there, and even many party members are billionaires, or at least millionaires. Shouldn't all that wealth go into services for the people? Under communism, ideally the wealth should flow back to the people, and not be hoarded in large bank accounts by government workers. Why is there corruption so that government officials take bribes to do favors for others? Why does the government not dare to open itself up to elections, and let's just see what the people really think about them? Why do they allow the property market to be artificially inflated with empty highrise buildings, so that people who invest money in them, lose everything when the companies collapse? And why can't the people who lost everything when their bank crashed, protest in front of the bank without being arrested? You see, it's not so different from North America. There is corruption and greed in both systems.

China is a communal society, whereas Canada is an individualistic society. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. However, I find China to be a much stronger nation precisely because the people pull together to solve the most pressing problems. Canada is quite dysfunctional in this respect.

That was an interesting comparison. the surveillance cameras are in all western nations now with the UK having most for its population so China's safety is likely to have many aspects making it such a safe place. Please correct me if I am wrong, After years of watching as much China content as I can find, i have noticed that people grow up learning respect for others, men show more respect towards women than the men in the west, in China the laws are harsher for law breakers where as in the West many do not respect the laws or other people, these are just a few reasons why I think there's a lot more to the safety issue than just surveillance. I just discovered your Channel and I think I will enjoy watching your life and travels in China 👍

Well said! Being living in north america, I enjoy the most are 1) the respect of people's right. Just an example, the basic right of handicap or even homeless people are respected well. 2) the fairness - people get fair treatment without having to have special connections. Everyone is ordinary people and all needed is just to follow the rule. For things I hated the most are 1) Gun violence, GOP is to be blamed, 2) tax and tax return - High tax rate, plus painful to file tax return annually. :)

But I don't like the idea of tooting and gun violence in America. In San Francisco it is very dangerous now like many cities in America. It's also very dirty and old. And in NYC you can pay $4000 for a small old rat infested 1BR apartment. If you pay $4000 for an apartment in China major city you definitely get your money's worth. So living in America is not that great especially the expensive over sugary/salty unhealthy food.

TS 3:16 Canada has been a multicultural country only in the last 30 years. Until 1990, it was English, French /Native American and "German/slavic" (that neighbourhood light hair, blue/grey eyes, lots of war so the countries' boundaries kept changing- The Canadian prairies. You have a glass of wine outside watching the Aurore Boerale, your glass of wine will freeze 3 minutes LOL) . The native Americans/French Canadians until the 1960s are the one that developed Canada. ( and the USA): forest,, mining, fishing, industries with English money and directives. They build all the. roads and buildings in Canada. The English brought capitalism. There were no black in Canada. too cold. You had to survive before supermarkets, cars and heat . Again, Canada has been multicultural only since your birth. And at that, only Rich immigrants were invited. Love your videos,! so fun to see the young eyes of today's perspective. . Future video? what kind of Chinese should i learn to visit China? The main difference is language. In China, everyone speaks Mandarin. It has a unifying effect on the society and everyone identifies as Chinese. In Canada, there is the two solitudes, French and English. You don’t really experience it until you come to Quebec. You find yourself being a minority on an Anglophone-dominated continent. Bilingualism is so imbalanced in this respect and you don’t really feel Canadian when you travel out of Quebec. People won’t communicate in your native language, you must speak in theirs. That’s why the twain will never meet.

You are confusing nationality and ethnicity….Nationality = Country, so only one nationality per country..but a country can have a number of Ethnicities….Han is a ethnicity just like Tibetan or Manchuria, but they are all Chinese nationals. Same as in Canada, every one has the same nationality of Canadian, but we have numerous ethnic groups, like, Italian, Greek, Irish, English, Chinese etc..
@Cinthia_Lin
@Cinthia_Lin Жыл бұрын
I’m not quite sure either. I looked it up. We don’t use ethnicity to refer minority groups because they are not ethnic groups. They are all Chinese that come from different cultural background and have different customs. But you are right, nationality may not be accurate either. I think I should refer us as the Han and minority groups.

Just saw a video on 996 work style. The interviewees were in 30’s or late 20’s. Most say 996 is not strictly enforced but ppl do work overtime, with or without pay. They don’t seem to mind it very much as long as they get paid. As I see more of the world and interact with/observe more ppl, I find hong kong ppl are different behaviorally than Chinese from mainland or taiwan. Hong Kong ppl are not an accurate representation of the Chinese race (most westerners first encounter with Chinese are Hong Kong emigrants in the old days). Same with North American. They are not an accurate representation of the “westerners”. They are different from ppl in Europe, whose principles and values system are more conservative than North American.

I just found your channel and I wondered you speak good English. You see Canada is good, but you never see America yet. My daughter who is born in America and now she is a teenager. I took her to visit Canada this year, she told me no place is better than America. I can tell that too. Surveillance cameras in China got help by American businessman who knows how to do those cameras. He helped to set it up for China. China is safe because it is communist regime, plus China, Japan, or South Korea don't have diverse population as America does. America has World population in the country so it is hard to manage. If police goes too far, they will get sue, but not in China. You can't sue the police. Can't compare democratic with communist systems. America is capitalist country and work hard than communist. You can say China works 9-9-6, but how productive its workers produce. America works 8 hours a day and 5 days a week with 2 weeks vacation and 1 week sick leave in most companies, plus 6 to 10 days holiday depending on company policy.

Interesting perspective. I can see the bias in your opinion for China, but it's just that, an opinion. I've met Chinese who lived in Canada and their opinion of Canada is similar to yours, but they can't stand China anymore. Is there any reason why you came back to China vs. staying in Canada? Besides family or food, I don't see any other reason to stay in China as a Chinese, unless you don't need to work (rich) or have your dream job (kind of hard to imagine in China) or couldn't stay in Canada any longer (green card?). Food and Family seem to be the only reason and those are personal. I mean you are using KZbin and having to jump through hoops to use it to attract a foreign audience. Don't you miss not having to use a VPN and taking a gamble whether a webpage will load or not? Life in Canada for Chinese is great. In Canada, you are Chinese. In China, you are just nobody. The sad truth (I don't say it to be mean) being one in a billion. Western society embraces individualism, that every person can make a difference (in movies, the hero saves the world) and every voice matters. People in China make fun of that actually as if it isn't possible (collectivism, just go watch a Chinese film and cringe on how they save the world in action movies). Glad you do love your country and explain the nice things of both China and Canada. And also, surveillance doesn't make the country safe. I think the Chinese people themselves are "safe" as in they are less violent than westerners. Definitely an interesting topic though.
