Lol... yes and not unlikely that your gaskets are worn or will tear. The carb replacement is so inexpensive it almost doesn't make sense to fiddle with the cleaning... that said my new carb is still in the box and I've ran this procedure 2-3 times... biggest lesson is get some Stabil or turn off gas and run it dry then make sure the bowl is drained before storing... all best intentions but my splitter is sitting behind the house right where I finished my last splitting job... lol. Good luck, hope it works out! - Josh

I bought mine in Fall of 2022, split a bunch of hickory, and parked it in my carport until yesteday (had open heart surgery and needed to recover) It would not start. I found your video and I did nothing more than disassemble, inspect, and re-assemble, and it started right up. I found this out with the carb in my Husgavarna tiller. If I parked it for a while the float chamber gummed up and I just needed to clean out the tiny channels in the bottom bolt that held on the bowl. It would have that gunk in it yours had. But my splitter's carb was already clean. I dunno. This is not the first time I've taken something apart and put it back together and suddenly it works. 😁 Your video allowed me to easily tackle the job.

That's awesome, I'm glad it helped. That's what I love about DIY stuff, is if you have the confidence to just give it a try it often produced positive results. I can say not all things go easy and i've got a snowblower that still needs reassembled , lol but I'm glad it worked out for you and hindsight, this being one of my first videos, glad I decided to document my attempt for others. I too have had some of those experiences where it just started working... I think sometimes that float just gets stuck so it may have just needed a little nudge. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I have the exact same County Line splitter. I have had only a couple minor starting issues where it takes multiple pulls to start and run, and those were after it was sitting for long periods of time. I now run it for about 5-10 minutes once a month. I use premium and the occasional 89 gas but use the additive “Heat” in the fuel as we have 5 months of severe cold and snow in the UP of Michigan. Great job identifying that ethanol gunk on the carb. I am sure that happens on many small engines that use ethanol based gas. Florida years ago had issues with Marine boats and craft being damaged by ethanol corn based fuel as humidity played havoc in engines. Marine boat companies were voiding warranties because premium gas was recommended and fuel hard to come by!

Great tip! I have somewhat learned my lesson but still miss adding additives now again. Just had it out last weekend and it fired right up. I'm also now turning off the gas and letting it run until it shuts down to avoid lots of fuel left in the bowl. Thanks for the great video. I have the same splitter, about 1 year old, haven't used it much, been sitting since last July, I did run it dry till it died the last time I used it. Now it starts right up on full choke, but you can only shut choke off about 1/3, or it runs real rough, cuts out real bad, when I try to shut the choke all the way off it wants to die. If it's 1/3 off, it runs great. Guess I will tear the carb apart drain tank like you did and clean it and see what happens. I'm going to start running ethanol free in it from now on. Thanks !

I normally turn off the gas and let the carb go dry when I'm done splitting, but I loaned it out and that didn't happen. Drained out old gas and cleaned the carb. It fired right up on a cold start but would not stay running. Put in new spark plug gapped to specs, same problem. Turned out to be a bad oil sending unit. The engine thought it was out of oil and it turned itself off. I unplugged the wire from the sensor (right under the on/off switch) and it runs like a scalded dog. Just make sure you have full, clean oil if you do this.

I bought a used nearly new dirty hands tools 27 ton that looks just like this. I had trouble with gas running through the engine and filling the crankcase. Ouch I usually run it dry but I was splitting regularly at the time and had not run the carb dry. I had this happened twice. Always check your oil to make sure you do have this problem. . Check needle and needle seat and see if there is crude in there. My needle valve looked good but I looked down in where the needle seats and there was green crude from the brass oxidizing which prevented the needle valve from completely seating thus allowing a slow gas passage through the carb into the engine (gotta have the intake valve open or this will not leak through into the crankcase so it may not always happen if your engine is off but the intake valve is closed). So I took a Q tip and soaked it with carb cleaner and pushed it in the seat and spun it and cleaned it out. The Q tip was green when I took it out. This stopped the leaking gas into the crankcase problem. Thanks to "Steve's Small Engine Saloon" for the fix.

I'm into my fourth season with the same splitter and never had an issue with it. Cranked on the first pull this season after sitting all Spring and Summer. Several things I do to keep it like that.I use a fuel stabilizer in it, Sea Form, all season when I'm running it. I put just a shot in it about every 3rd tank of gas. When I start it up for the season I run a tank of TruFuel in it I buy at Home Depot and another time during the Winter months I'm using it. I don't run the fuel out of it at the end of the season. I put Trufuel and some Sea Form in the tank and let it run until I know the regular fuel has been used up and only the TruFuel is in it. When I crank it. i turn the switch on, open the fuel lever, give it full choke and half the throttle, and that's where I leave the throttle when splitting. Cranks on the first pull 99% of the time. I also change the oil in it on a regular basis and keep it covered up with a tarp.Thanks for sharing your informative video. And Note: I never mix fuel anymore for chainsaws and weed wackers. I use the premixed fuel. No more cranking and running problems with either of them.

How do I get fuel to reach the carburetor. Bowl is bone dry
@HardyBrothersOutdoors15 күн бұрын
Is fuel flowing from the tank to the fuel switch? Check that first, you may have gummed up ethanol in the line or in the lever that turns the fuel on/off. @@RonaldBrissetteSr I’m not near mine to check so don’t recall for sure. But if your fuel line and on/off switch is working you should have fuel in the bowl. Normally when storing you turn off the fuel and let the motor run until it turns off which is using up all the remaining fuel in the bowl.

Mine starts up 1 pull and will only run for about a minute then will shut off. Seems its not getting enough gas bc if I idle it down it will run about 2 mins then shut off. I don't recall on the fuel filter, but I don't think so... Not at my property so can't take a look. Hi Tim, thanks for the feedback... You'll note that this was video #7 in our learnings of how to video and edit, so apologies the quality was bad, but we have learned and our new stuff is much better... doesn't help folks that find this video but the topic is hot so it keeps getting views. Good point on the gasoline into the container... note I've never done that project before. As for the carb rebuild kit, I actually plan to replace the carb soon as its only a $14-ish part... We are on our property for weekends and needed to split wood so we tore it apart and made it work and now have at least an idea of how to do this sort of repair going forward... new carb should go on easily. Since we started using fuel treatment it has gone very well and I also run the gas out of the carb if its going to sit. Again, thanks for the feedback and hopefully you will subscribe and check out some of our 234 other videos. Thanks! -Josh
