Hi Meghan and Matt! I love watching your African adventure! Meghan your reaction to your first time encounters is hilarious, but also I recognize it from our first zebra’s, giraf, pinguïns.😃. It’s magical hey! Loved your visit to the Robberg Nature Reserve. Never been there, so on my to-do-list. We travelled to SA a first time in 1996 for our honeymoon. Been back many times, with our children too. Done Namibia and Botswana a first time last year. I can highly recommend! I disagree with National Geographic and even a few local South African travel guides that say the Garden Route starts in Mossel Bay - been living in Port Elizabeth for 54 years and done the Garden Route so many times - ignore the guides: The Garden Route is the entire trip from PE to Cape Town - all 500 miles of it. Anything less and you WILL miss out. It is easily worth a 2 week / 14 day adventure.

We did the whole route from Cape Town to Gqeberha and ended in Addo Elephant National Park. It was absolutely epic. Then we took the northern route back to Cape Town going through wine country.
