Ignoring roadblocks might not be the best idea, Montagu pass Challenge S1EP47

Today we are making our way from Hartenbos towards De Rust, close to Oudtshoorn. Our idea was to do Montagu pass and some other amazing dirt and tar roads, but we got a surprise.. The Toll House is situated near the foot of the Montagu Pass, and this is also where the Montagu pass was blocked. Heavy rains had washed away the whole pass, leaving it impassable for vehicles. But after removing our luggage, we were able to squeeze ourselves through. The road definitely became an adventure and left us wondering what we gotten ourselves into...once again..

Hey! I'm so glad the Old Toll House looks so great and full of good period items. It is exposed to regular mountain fires and also hideous looting. The team of wonderful community members that work tirelessly as volunteers to rebuild, restock & operate this bastion of heritage needs all the support they can get. They are totally dependent on donations of heritage items of all kinds and of course their famous "boere troos" (farm coffee) and pan cakes. So good that you stopped there and told a bit if the place's story. The pass is a very nice ride.

Lovely, well done. It reminds me of that one Tolla story about the swings. The night guard says: Nee meneer ons is blou toe, then Tolla recons, Nee wat jong hier is niks toe nie, start lat ons ry! This is the South African way.

I have the Montagu pass to be the oldest unaltered pass... not the longest. Prins Alfred pass has the honour of being the longest... 🤔🤔 Well done to the two of you.

Doesn’t matter what you ride, as long as you enjoy it! It’s a cool bike! But just don’t do this pass now, a friend was there just the other day and they have completely closed it after this years rain… even for hikers. But you can get up to the toll house 😊👍🏻
