The Southern Mississippi is all about history and not necessarily the natural scenery. On the other hand, if looking for natural beauty, a Fall foliage river trip on the Upper Mississippi has spectacular natural scenery along the 200+ miles between St Paul and Dubuque with Lake Pepin considered one of the top 10 most beautiful stretches of river in the world.

Yes, we have heard that the upper Mississippi is quite different to the section we did. We loved the bit we did but do wish we’d had time to do both 😔 Thanks for watching 👍

That is genius to have a venue overlooking the paddle wheel. Talk about trippy, though. The entire…boat…looks like it could’ve been built in the late 1800s. And..in some places, renovated in the 1980s. Eclectic in southern decor and hospitality. Makes me long for a visit to my central counterparts in the south. Whether I could manage the price of a cruise on the American Queen or figure some alternative itinerary. Love the British perspective. I know it’s a career field all in itself, but Rich should be a voice actor if he ever gets any opportunities.

Hi! Thanks for this video. We were in Cape Girardeau, MO this past September and accidentally saw this magnificent ship. What a beauty it is! We'd never even heard of it. It's like something out of "Showboat." Thanks for showing us the inside. The funny thing is that the Cape Girardeau welcoming committee thought we were on the ship and gave us all the goodies the cruisers got. We also coincidentally ended up following the tour bus around Cape Giradeau's tourist sights. These riverboats are doing wonders for revitalizing these old river towns. We'll always remember the American Queen.🙂

As I said on your last video - what a lovely ship, cabin and cruise. If I could afford it I’d jump at it. And as an Australian I know many complain about American food (being bland) but that menu had my licking my lips. Classic, homely and filing. Exactly what I like. Sometimes sea based cruise food can be too fancy for me but that hit the spot. Fantastic.

What a great episode. I lived in Memphis 30yrs ago in a high rise along the river (near Beale). Your video reminded me how much I enjoyed hearing the ship’s calliope playing as it approached or departed Memphis. That was a highlight of my time there. I remember the Delta Queen. Is the American Queen the newest flagship? Anyway, you’ve stoked my interest to perhaps give it go. So much history on that river, some of it good and some not so much, but it is an important part of America. Thanks for sharing your experience.

My wife and I enjoyed several river cruises on this beautiful boat...so sad to learn parent company went out of business and sold boat at auction to a competitor cruise line..they decided not to use it and tried to find a rivertown that might take ownership for free, I believe, and use it as a static display...sadly no takers, probably due to size and upkeep expense...boat is now in a scrap yard awaiting demo...

Good video! Was the ship packed? I assume this route is not as touristy as island cruises. Some of the videos barrely have any people on deck. Somehow it feels lonely.
@visitwithus Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. :) There are certainly less river boats on the Mississippi so yes, it is much less busy than the traditional rivers. The reason there was nobody on the decks was because of two things 1. I filmed some scenes early in the morning before it got too hot and 2. as the region was going through a particularly bad heatwave, it was simply too hot and humid to be outside. Rest assured it was not a lonely cruise at all. The guests were plentiful and very friendly. :)

@visitwithus Жыл бұрын
Hi Erika and thanks for watching and your kind words. We visited in June and that's a few weeks before they move the ship to the northern part of the river because the summer is quite hot there. The week we were on her it was an unusual heat wave on the region, which is rare and very hot and humid, but to safely avoid the hottest part of the summer, I would suggest May or early June. :)
