This is a fun concept and is fine in theory but doesn't actually work once hordes get serious. One cop exploding while ferals are running around damaging your blade and the sides would do this trap in. A combination of spikes, Blades, Electric and proper design makes things run smoothly. Just FYI, I made it to day 100 with nothing electrical on hardest mode. [A16] I used spikes and barbed wire and a proven design and had no problems. Gathering wood is a pain since trees only grow when you're in the area now so.... takes time to get enough spikes. Still.... it works. My advice would be to use electricity to augment your design and save on resources. Using it as your main defense is less effective and if it breaks down you're in big trouble.

The electric fence is able to clip through walls and function, much like the electric wires do, so a fully enclosed pit with wires within the perimeter is possible. Looks nice and keeps your posts safe.

Yeah it is. I only did it this way so you can see what I was doing. Since the support walls are surrounded by wood and dirt, it would have been hard to show where they were at :)

What has been working for me. Are simple wooden spikes. Like a large number of them. Over a large 3x3 pit. I cover the pit with iron bars. Then line the walls with concrete. I have a hatch and a ladder that I use to get in and out. In the bottom of the pit is a door that leads into my base. It is a simple three room base. A bedroom with cloths. A loot room. Then in the center is a crafting room. With two dump chests. The loot room is designed so I can keep digging down to expand if needs be. When the witch comes. I am able to ignore her. The spikes up top kill her. I am living in the desert biodome. In a small western town. With city blocked roads. So I took over one block. Each corner I plan on doing some kind of area defence. I just want to make it cost effective. I thought shotgun turrets. But buckshot is expensive for me. I did a defence tower so I can take on the 7 day horde. Using 4 leading diagonal walls. With 4 of these blade traps. I just did a day 21 horde with them. I want to continue with this base up into high end game content. I just don't know where to go from here.

Since you would be below it I would reccomend an Umbralla, Raincoat and maybe a Snorkle unless you have excellent Drainage down there.

A thing that you could do to improve is putting campfires on the edge of the pit so then they first get set on fire, then electricuted and finally chopped into pieces. Consider making little 'doorways' to funnel them through the fire first.

I know this is an older video, but on the 20×20 you dont need it that big and you can't make much deeper because they can't sense you from great distances. I've made and juicer pit and I have to fly into the middle of the hole at the top to make them think it is okay to fall. I have it so that there are rows mlm of blade traps 7 layers in between them. Thanks for the cool video. And thanks for the ideas of pressure plates and motion sensors.

I would love to see something at the bottom of the pits that automatically loot the bodies of hordes. It would be so awesome to be able to collect all the loot while not having to worry about it.

Yeah, some sort of funneling system that breaks down the corpses and stores the contents. Not even sure how that would work.

Capp00 Taking a concept from minecraft and fallout 4 mods. It could potentially just loot the corpses and store the items into a connected storage crate or bin just under or beside it. The rotten flesh, bones and fat could go into a different collected bin to make fertilizer and such. It would all have to be one big unit to balance it out.

It could be a huge industrial shredder to be honest. I know coding is hard because we had a 'test' class in it back in high school and almost everyone failed the class that year and it wasn't continued. I have no clue how the coding of something like that would work to be honest. Though I'm sure it could be done if given the time.

Hello I've come to tell you all that for the update to come to console is unfortunately likely to take between 100 - 175 days before alpha 16 comes. I calculated this based off 2 factors, how hard or easy it would or could be to update a game on the console format and the amount of time it took for PC to update to alpha 16. ( My calculation is based off the a shot in the dark/guess that the developers started developing the alpha 16 for console after they developed it fully for PC.)

I have a pit of 9 blade traps raised one block up with spikes underneath surrounded by shotgun turrets which I have yet to test, however based on this video with just one blade trap, it will work. It's a bit of an overkill with the shotgun turrets, but it leaves no zombie unscathed, which is what I aim for after day 77 since the bigger radiated cop zombies start showing up.

One way to have the zombies run into the pit is to put ladders all around the pit (one ladder will do per block)

YAY you are back 😊 Can those blades stick to walls ? (I play on console and im jealous AF) Cause if they do just make a wall all around your base then attach to the wall as many as you can and then i guess you sit and watch ? Idk might be a good defense since they wont be able to damage the wall and they will get wrecked just by coming close and for overkill just put sentrys on top of the wall that could be a pretty badass base O.O

:) Yes, those blades can be attached to walls and ceilings too. Look at a recent video I did of a grinder having 4 blades on the walls/floor/ceiling :)

What exactly is the difference between a ghoul at night and during day? They run faster, is that all?

For normal days yes. Every 7th night is the blood moon, a feral horde much larger than standard hordes, and they always know where you are. Regular night time hordes can be avoided by just hiding and not making noise. 7-day hordes cannot.

If you're underneath the pit (where the battery banks are), some zombies will fall through the 1/4 blocks and you can loot them before they turn into gore blocks above and splat due to lack of room... You can also probably reach through the 1/4 blocks and loot the closer bodies

Yes, they do show up in random gen worlds. Obviously I don't know their locations, but they are there somewhere :)

Check compass, see what direction the building is located then press M, then pull down to where your character is pointed at, that is probably cause you are very far from the nearest trader then when you pres M, it does not show up at all but when you zoom out or keep looking in your map, Most likely you will be seeing it. [Compass First, Then Map.]
