There are a large variety of Icelandic snacks in the country, and I am just featuring 7 delicious ones that I like to eat in this video. Because I am strictly a plant-based eater, I felt it was important to only showcase vegan friendly Icelandic snacks. All of the snacks can be found in any of the major food markets in Iceland, such as Bónus, Krónan, Hagkaup, and Nettó.
The list of the snacks are below in the order that they appear in the video.
1. Papriku Stjörnur
2. Stjörnu Rulla & Fylltar Reimar
3. Calífórniu Rúsínar
4. Egils Malt (maltextrakt)
5. Flat Kökur
6. Súkkulaði - plain Icelandic chocolate
7. Jóla Dýr (Christmas animal)
I highly recommend trying out these different Icelandic snacks while you are in Iceland. It is pretty fun to take them home as souvenirs for others or yourself. When you get to the store, you will see that there are even more Icelandic snacks available than what I have listed, but this is a great place to start.
If you would like to shop for Icelandic snacks or other goods made in Iceland, I suggest checking out www.nammi.is

So weird. I went down the rabbit hole watching this and remembered a candy my stepfather used to buy in NYC were we lived, it was Turkish candy with pistachios. Midway through your video I did an Amazon check on Turkish candy and BAM! Found it! Because I used to wake up late in the night and 'steal' his candy from the fridge, at 60 now? I think it fitting I send him a box out of the blue and see if he remembers! HA! Thank you!

My grandfather used to give me one bottle of Malt every day and every time he read the label ... " nærandi og styrkjandi, gefur hraustlegt og gott útlit, bætir meltinguna " (nourishing and strengthening, gives a healthy and good look, improves digestion ( google translate )) I had that same "thing" with the bottle opener ...:)

Anytime I’m in a Scandinavian country, I bring back licorice for one of my Norwegian friends. The last time I was in Iceland I discovered a chocolate bar with caramel or toffee filled licorice. I bought several, but I got stuck on a road trip, and ate one. Yum! Then I ate them all before I left. Oops! The only way I can eat licorice is chocolate covered. I like the dried fish dipped in butter. It’s a great bar snack for a non-vegan. Also non-vegan, I had the flatbread with a lamb pate spread at a farmhouse. 😊

I was so surprised that you didn't troll everybody with a packet of Hakarl (sorry my keyboard lacks the accent) for everyone. It'd be interesting if you did a video on foods at a traditional icelandic dinner or feast with the (what non-Icelandic people consider) unusual foods that need to be washed down with Schnapps! At uni in Scotland two of my professors were Icelandic and my best friend for a time was from an Icelandic family and I heard about these types of dinners and social functions a lot. It might open a lot of eyes to how focused on fishing industries the Icelandic country is! Again, I love your videos!

As an icelander living abroad I really enjoy these videos about Iceland from the view of immigrants, it makes me nostalgic. And to people wanting to order Icelandic foods and treats there are a couple of pages like nammi.is where you can buy them but they are really expensive there, to me it's cheaper to go to Iceland and buy to bring back home with me.

In all Scandinavian countries it is normal to eat licorice as snacks. One thing i find a bit strange, is that for example here in Norway, around 80% of all licorice we use are imported from Brazil. And still i have never met a Brazilian that like licorice, and it is not normal down there. (we know a lot of Brazilians by the way) I just find it a bit strange that those that actually produce the raw stuff does not use it..

How was that with the wine bottle opener, and the chocolate fish again...? That was 👏 awesome! 😆 You’re so fun to watch! Nope, I haven’t tried any of those snacks, or heard of them. I think the closest would be dark chocolate Raisinettes. I can eat them by themselves or with nuts, and I also like to put in oatmeal spice cookies! Around Halloween I like to mix nuts with candy corn and raisinettes 🤷🏼‍♀️. The paprika star chips look very tasty! Are they potato, corn, or veggie based? Are they 🌶 spicy-hot at all? Is the flavor similar to anything common in the US?

I love liquorice, but can't stand marzipan. It seems like the filling in the Stjernö Rulla is red? What is it made of? (A lot of red sweets has E120, which isn't vegan). The Icelandic chocolate we can get here are all with dairy, unfortunately. I loved Draumur when I was just vegetarian. And Freya is one of my favourite Icelandic sweets companies! The Icelandic names are scaringly similar to Norwegian. 😉
