For the most of my life I had male cats and since we lived in the countryside, they were roaming around and neither of them were fixed. They were the most loving cats vs females. When we moved to a city, we got a female cat and had her fixed. She was strictly an indoor cat. She had a very serious character, hated nearly every visitor we had with extremely rare exceptions of 2 people in her 13 year life span (she died 2 months ago from cancer). Since she had quite an angry personality, we got a male cat this time, fixed. Oh boy he is crazy! We start our morning by collecting items of his size and smaller all over the house. I must say he is too playful. Kicks everything off of every surface, jumps all over us, harassing and abusing our 110 lb 4yo dog. He is very demanding. But at the same time he is very affectionate. Our female cat has never been like this. If he decided to get on your laps for some love time, you have no option to refuse. He is like a bull that keeps coming and coming at you to hug and lick you to death. Especially in the middle of the night when you are trying to sleep, tickling you with his enormous whiskers lol. He is a lot of fun and also quite a handful. Destroyed all of the house plants and curtains, constantly chewing on wires. We are scared to leave him unattended when going to work.

@@annapatton4544 the cats who lived outside were in their natural environment. They were happy. Maybe your indoor female cat was wise enough to know that she didn’t belong indoors, and it out her in a bad mood. Maybe you boy cat isn’t smart enough to know he’s a prisoner of another species? I feel sorry for cats and dogs, even though I loooove them. I feel sorry for them, because they don’t belong indoors. They have such amazing potential that is wasted by living indoors. And so many of them are alone so much time, imprisoned, waiting for their human being to come home. These are amazing creatures, and they belong in the wild. Human beings are so dysfunctional, and we imprison these animals to help us deal with our own loneliness, we use them as a form of therapy.

An orange cat was born into my life and stayed with me for 21 years. Stevie (he liked this name) was NOT broken so he didn't need fixing. Stevie lived indoors with me his whole life and had an about 50 word vocabalaric understanding. He also did many "tricks" at my request. Stevie's main mission in life seemed to be being availabe to me for snuggling and socialising with other people and animals, even large dogs. Stevie was amazing!

I had this problem a couple of years ago, after having many neutered males in my life, I had no idea about this issue. A new male cat had moved into my apartment block and it's a monster, even coming inside my cat flap and spraying that stench. My Henry kept leading me to his litter tray and getting in it and showing me "look Mum, no wee's!" Off to the vet and found out all about it. Urinary Tract food, some meds and it's all good now. Except that monster still lives here but they must have sorted their issues out. The vet said, it's all about _STRESS_ for the boys.

Every cat is so different. I've had cats most of my life, usually two or three at a time. The only behavioral consistency I've seen is that males do tend to be more casual while females usually tend to be more careful. They are very much like people in that way. But I've known females who were more adventurous and males who were timid. I think their personalities and early experience play major factors in this.

I have had two or more cats for years, but in the last year just have one cat, a neutered male, who is about 13 years old. He is my shadow, following me around, even to the bathroom. As I type this, he is lying on my lap and wanting to be petted. His name is Milo and is a ginger tabby. He’s the second ginger tabby I’ve had in my life and they were both males and both extremely affectionate.

Over the course of fifty years, I’ve had many male cats, all neutered. I loved them all, and thought I knew all about cat’s’ personalities. Then a few years ago I adopted a tiny female cat (spayed) and am still amazed at how different her personality is. She’s happy, very affectionate, and so gentle. No roughhousing like the guys all loved to do. No, she wants to be held, cuddled, combed and carried. She has a very sensitive streak; the only time I ever yelled at her ( she was on the table), she literally ran away crying. She was troubled for hours afterwards. The males would not have cared, they would have given me the tail and sauntered off. She’s smart and very obedient, and eager to please me. So unlike my cat before her, who was quite rebellious until maybe age 7. No, she does not represent all female cats. I’d like to hear about the experiences of others.

Yes! I have two female cats absolutely sweetest and so smart! One of mine especially seems to really obey and wanna make me happy, when I say no she stops what she’s doing immediately. she loves to kiss my face and cuddle and sit on my lap and bop her head to my face so I can kiss her forehead, my other female could care less what anyone thinks! But she’s still a sweetheart and hilarious! She has like 15 different voices and makes funny faces and has really big eyes🥰 they both also would never scratch me or bite me no matter what, we truly got super lucky with our girls! I always thought male cats were sweet because many I met were, but my two girls are the absolute angels!

I've owned both males and females but my current one is a female kitten. She loves having attention particularly from me but also loves to play. My hand is constantly covered in scratches. Im constantly getting after her for being on the table. Bought a spray bottle for that exact purpose. The moment I grab it she darts off the table. She's constantly full of energy and when it comes to her food dish I'm the only one in the house she complains to when it's low or empty. Im also the only one she'll jump up on the lap of, lay down and fall asleep. She'll cuddle with the others in the house but nowhere near as much as she does with me. She also enjoys terrorizing the 9-10 year old Akita in the house whom just sits or lays there and takes it. Sometimes he plays back but not often and never when he realizes people are watching.

I owned a male American Shorthair that had been a street cat, got to the shelter at 3-5 years old, got neutered and I picked him. As he was already grown he had all his claws. He was huge, 13 pounds of climbing beast. He had a torn ear, didn't spray, was affectionate with me, and would take clues from me how to act with others. I bonded with him by brushing him every night in bed. He was mostly an indoor cat however, I picked up a small harness and a leash and would take him on walks. When he got tired walking I would put him on my shoulder. This when wearing a leather vest or denim jacket. He traveled well, liked going in the car on cross country trips. He liked catnip, didn't like other cats. He did not like loud noises. He caught mice. A couple times decapitating them and presenting them to me. He was good with the litter box. He was health and strong for 13 years with me. He had a stroke, had problems eating, drinking, walking and went deaf. He was going to starve if I didn't put him down. I still sometimes miss him. Pete was a good pet. Pete? Who names a cat Pete? Pete was all black. I got him home from the shelter and was wondering what to name him. I put on some music, Workingman's Dead. Song six came on, a blues tune, Black Peter. That's how he got his name. At night he would climb up on my bed expecting to be brushed. I would pull a sheet over my face and say "Pete, where's my kitty?" and he would pull the sheet down and I would brush him.

Ive learned in general regardless of male or female, a cat is more manageable if you get them fixed young. Plus with males it's a even less likely chance of them spraying. But males from my experience seem to be more likely to seek attention however the most efficient cat I've seen is a full grown female that sticks around my house. She'll stop doing whatever just to get attention and really use uer weight and size to push her way into taking all the attention. Pretty much shes a attentionslut and a half. She sticks around along with a few other cats because we feed them. We would let them inside but we have a female kitten which the female outside has tried to attack when she got in the house and the others are male cats that are unfixed and sprey everywhere outside so it wouldn't take long for them to do the same inside the house and we don't have the money to get them fixed.

Definitely found firsthand through my own cats and my kid’s cats that females are more aloof. The boys have been much more sociable to each other and to their humans. The females have hated their female cat housemates and the boys tend to buddy up. This is a small sample size and every cat is unique as far as their traits. He loved my partner too much, to the extent that he died of a heart attack when my partner was away for weeks. He was so sweet, so playful and so whatever the best of the universe. We will never forget him. My current cat, Donna-Bella, is female. She was captured as a stray and given to us for fostering. The rescuer foisted her on us because she knew we would adopt her. Gender differences are a definite reality, even in neutered cats. I’ve had female cats, most neutered, and their litters my whole adult life. Now I have two neutered males. The difference in mind set between males and females is remarkable.

I've had 4 male cats over the years and last year I got my first female cat, and I've got to say that I prefer female cats much more. She's very sweet, affectionate, patient and playful. Ofc there's times when she gets mean or she wants to sit down with no one bothering her but it isn't that frequent. She's currently taking care of her two kitties who are females, and those two are very smart and very observant for their age (theyre almost three weeks old). One of them is very laid back, calm and will walk to u for cuddles while the other one will start crying when you lift her up but she's very adventurous. I prefer female cats much more compared to male cats 🤷‍♀️.

I welcomed 2 kittens into my life 3 months ago. What a joy! The are littermates, one male and one female. I had the male neutered and the female spayed and the male, Snowflake, has turned into a lover boy. His sister, Cali, is more cautious and is just now letting me hold her for a minute or two, but she is definitely the aggressive “Hunter” of the two when we play.

There are definitely profound differences between male and female cats, but I’m not really sure whether the strong points outweigh the weaker ones on one particular side. Males might be more playful, but they’re also more likely to act like jerks and pee on things. Females may be a bit more aloof and moody/temperamental, but I’ve also found that they’re more loyal and empathetic to the needs of their chosen human. We have a good balance at the house where I’m living right now with my roommate - we have two females who are 15 and 16 years old respectively, and two males who are 3 and 8. It’s a really nice balance overall and somehow everyone gets along and manages to coexist under the same roof without too much fighting. There are definitely two main territorial “zones” dominates by each female in which the other one almost never strays, with a shared communal space in the middle that all four cats seem comfortable being in.

I have an older male cat, we joke that he's half tiger. He is big, and you can't trust him most of the time, but he takes care of sick cats, protects them, breaks up fights, and chases coyotes out of the yard. The second is my male cat is a soft, hold me all the time kitty. He can't hunt, or fight, he's my sweetie., but is very territorial, and won't let other cats near me. The last is a beautiful black female, she's aloof from me, but loves my mom, , and sister.

We have two cats. An older female and a younger male. She has always been more distant and cautious. He is more friendly and willing to pet. I never tried to force them to pet them. Only if they want it. It happened to me that I went on long business trips. And then she started waiting for me at the door all day long. Since then she has been my cat. I'm not forcing her to do anything. She comes to me on her own and she is so lovely. Just treat each other with respect and don't force anyone to do anything. And miracles happen!

She was loud when she wanted attention, loved to be pet and she was nearly all night and day long on her own adventures outside. She even got into fights! My other cat is a Siamese. She’s very polite. She never wakes me up at night (unlike the calico), isn’t outside this much and is very attached to me. She’s way calmer too. Both where neutered due to going outside.

My other female cat Would also want to nuzzle and would suckle on my neck. Both would run to the door when I got home. The male cats were more aloof. They wanted to be in the same room as me but would go lie down a few feet away and watch me. They did not display the same separation anxiety when I was gone. They slept on my feet, only occasionally coming up to the pillow. I gave them all the same level of affection.

My recently-departed 8yo female cat, Chiyo, loved to play - she'd literally drag the stick/string toy over to me and make sure I knew it was there. She also loved to play fight. When she was a young adult, she'd run up behind my, leap and tap the back of my calves, then run away in a weird game of tag. Very affectionate, and super smart - once caught her trying to open the pantry door because she knew the cat treats were in there. She must have been watching me use the door, so one night she got up on her hind legs and was trying to grip the doorknob with the front paws.. When she noticed me watching, she very slowly lowered herself to the floor, then just walked away with a "nothing to see here" kind of attitude. If that cat had thumbs, my usefulness would've been greatly diminished, I think. I miss her so much...

We had family cats when I was growing up. But when I graduated from college I began my journey with Siamese cats. I’ve had equal amount of male and female Siamese. What I really like about this breed is that they are usually one owner lovers. I see really no big difference between the male and female in their affectionate nature, perhaps because I have them spayed and neutered quite young. Also I’m the only person in the house besides them. When I had littermates males, their personalities were very different.

I have 1 male and 2 females. The females are a bonded pair and often cuddle with each other. The male is more affectionate towards me because I'm his favorite human. My female tortie is the territorial one and often there's a standoff between him and the tortie. My female tabby who is the oldest is more standoffish but that wasn't always the case. Originally, I had her and her brother as a bonded pair but he had to be put down after a short battle of kidney failure at 18 months. She wasn't the same kitty afterwards. Then we rescued the tortie as a kitten who became her BFF.

My daughter had a female siamese that i inherited when she went to college. She was fixed and still a amazing huntress! My husband loved that she pulled her weight by hunting mice and volves. She'd come in for affection and to rest but preferred patrolling the barn ours & neighbors fields. Flash forward my daughter came back and moved with her to Co. Being a self claimed "dog person" i never knew cats could be so loving. I did my research and have a 2 yr old neutered male liliac siamese (from the shelter!) He is strictly indoors and is so calm playful and loving! My husband even enjoys him despite him not pulling his weight around the house. He certainly makes up for it in spades with th3 affection comical things he does! Both genders are great in my limited experience. I think its more about what you'll enjoy so you keep and care for your cat for their live.

She used to cuddle with me at nights when I sleep. I had a male siamese mix who has always been super sweet, playful, and loving, and he was these things even before he got neutered. Every time I came home from college, he'd jump in my lap, play with me, by batting at my fingers while I was typing on the keyboard, and he'd fall asleep in my lap purring away. Gonna stop here cuz I almost feel like crying just talking about him. I miss him so much lol

I have one of each, male and female (traditional Siamese). They were littermates, spayed and neutered when mature, so very different in appearance and size. And, yes, personality and behaviors. The male is more playful (actually demands it), and amenable to being cuddled when *I* feel like it. The female is very affectionate too, but only on *her* terms (i.e., when *she* initiates it). I love them both, and got two so they can keep each other company when I’m out of the house. It works very well. They’re “best buds,” except when he’s feeling playful, and she’s not! When he’s getting too frisky for her, she gives him some “choice words!” But they never actually come to blows about anything.

Alot of people lose any bond with the cat because they think they can discipline them like a dog. But if you try yelling or punishing a cat you only make it fear you, everything about bonding with a cat revolves around trust. That's why you always let the cat come to you. It took a month before my girlfriends cat bonded with me and now I know it's because I wasn't trying. But that first time ever that it happened, the cat came and layed down on me while I was sleeping. And from that day on I fell in love, and it's amazing how deep the bond became. Cats are highly intelligent and very loving and loyal it just takes time. Which in my opinion makes the bond all the more real.

I think the only reason why I wouldn't want a male cat is due to the spraying they do. We've got a few strays that we feed outdoors, but the sad thing is that these cats are very friendly and they appear to be once owned by humans. They allow us to pet them. My 11 year old neutered cat ALWAYS marks his pathway, BECAUSE he is 98% blind since birth! He always goes outside with the other cats during the daytime and with that he marks his pathways. He also will spray in the House if I change furniture around. To get him to go out I have to tap on different areas I want him to go as well as on the door to remind him where the entrance is. Otherwise he will run into walls or doors. He is happy roaming around outdoors but stays really close to the House. So when I call Mr Eye (yes, he ONLY has one Eye that has a cataract in it, and that is why he is 98% visually impaired), he comes running right away!

I try and talk to her all day long and tell her i love her and play with her with her mousies and fishies. I might have saved her from the dangers of the outside (we live in the country with wild dogs and coyotes) but she saved me too. I try to fix all my cats as early as possible. I have had a couple of male cats take on nurturing roles of kittens. I had one who when I had a bottle baby, climbed into his bed when the kitten was about 2 weeks old and taught him how to be a cat. I had gotten the kitten at about a week. I will say that while my first cats were female, since I was looking for a kitten who would be harder to adopt. When I got a young, but intact boy, got him fixed. He was one of the sweetest cats ever. I always said he had a 'he-em' since it couldn't be a harem.

Since most people know next to nothing about tomcat behavior, I'll share some observations: Tomcats are very laid back and affectionate; in fact, they're more laid back than neuters. However, if they're indoor-outdoor, and fully adult (they come into their own at around three years old) they're less playful and less sociable with strangers. They expend enough energy on patrolling their territory, and get enough mental challenge from keeping an eye on everything within it, that they don't need play. They also interact with a lot of other animals, especially cats, to maintain the relationship status with everyone within their territory. Some need to be removed (killed or chased off) because they pose a threat to females; tomcats have a zero tolerance policy on this. Some need to be chased off for other reasons (other tomcats). Some need to be kept in their place (e.g. neuters and dogs; tomcats won't tolerate neuters who believe they're tomcats, but are otherwise neutral toward them). Others need to be kept happy and as friendly as possible (female cats; there's a limit to how friendly they get, though, outside of heat). One would be excused for not noticing, because it's usually quick and subtle, except when a confrontation escalates to an actual fight; fights are rare, though, almost always with other tomcats, and never with females (unless one decides to beat up the tomcat, in which case that's exactly what will happen; tomcats are totally "pussy-whipped"). All of this reduces their need for socializing with humans; they're usually quite happy limiting socializing to their human family. This doesn't mean that they're timid or stand-offish, though; they'll happily and politely greet anyone showing proper manners (as they deem it), and usually allow a pet or two, before going on their way. When they're home, and not in a hurry to get out again, they want to renew ties to their humans, and will be very affectionate, and otherwise eat, drink, and sleep. They can spend days at home, with only short trips out, and then be gone for days; sometimes, if they've picked up the scent of a female heat from a long distance, getting home between the bouts of mating and competing may not be possible, and they may stay away for a week. Marking in the house is less of an issue with well adjusted tomcats than with any other cats; because of the large territory, they have lots of other places to mark, while other cats will confine themselves to a much smaller area. With an insecure tomcat, though, things can get very bad, not least because their urine has an extremely strong smell. While they're extremely territorial toward other tomcats, they're likely to accept any other _well behaved_ animal on their territory, plus any and all female cats, well behaved or not; sometimes, they'll even accept tomcats that demonstrate submission. Females, on the other hand, will be less territorial, but are more likely to be territorial toward all other animals. Basically, tomcats are the ultimate combination of independent and affectionate, and the most laid back creatures you'll ever encounter (as long as you behave yourself). By the way, if you can convince them to play, they're no fun to play with. They mostly won't pounce, unless they're sure of success, and they're much faster and more accurate than they seem; they almost always catch the toy on the first try, and always in a firm grip. Then they decide that it's no challenge and no fun, and walk away, unintentionally leaving you utterly humiliated. When they rarely hunt, that's definitely not because they couldn't, if they wanted to. Yeah, this is personal experience from having had four tomcats, counting my current one.

Love you’d accent! I have both male and female but mt first kitty was a male. The males have definitely been more cuddly and loving but my female is also sweet, brave, strong, and such a boss. She takes no prisoners!

I've had cats (usually multiple cats) for 34 years. I can't speak for anyone else but it's been my experience that female cats for the most part seem to be more intelligent than males. More curious, better at problem solving and far more common sense. I also found females to be much more affectionate.

I have an aloof female cat who I will pick-up (catch) and bring up to bed to snuggle under the covers. She hisses and growls a bit on the way up to bedroom and while I’m settling in but after a few minutes gives one deep breath and falls fast asleep in my arms! My other cat is much more friendly and might sleep on top of me but won’t stay still if I’m holding her or laying next to her.

My experience for 15 years has been that my female cat is very nurturing very much a healer and wants to be with me even when I meditate and is very social runs other people my male cat completely the opposite would never think of sitting on your lap to very little section was very much more of a loner. He didn’t really like to be picked up or to be cuddled or his belly rubbed. I think it all depends on personality.

I adopted two Bengals at 12 years of age, both neutered. The female used to yowl quite a lot. At times he'd try to mate with her, but once on top of her, he'd get confused and didn't know what to do next! I felt sorry for him! She'd even comply, taking the female position, then get bored waiting, turn around, bite him, then jump off! Can anyone explain this? !

All cats are so different! I started doing “research” because I have my first female cat after having only male cats, not on purpose, just a coincidence. All of my boy cats have been insanely affectionate and loving but my girl is a bit more standoffish and doesn’t cuddle as much. Although she does follow me around the house all day so I know she likes me lol. It’s just hard for me because I want to kiss and hug her all day! She’s just so cute!!!

My last two were siblings. She adopted my son as her human. Period. She was far more strict about his bedtime than I was. Her brother loved everybody. Their markings were similar but everything else about them was vastly different. Bone structure, body shape, temperament. She had bird bones, he was a tank. Molly's feet were so dainty it hurt when she walked on you. Murphy was like a basset hound crawling over you. We had 15 years of goofy with them.

Ive seen brother and sister together a couple of times and in all cases the male cuddles with the human and the female with her brother. I think thats a great combination, so i will go for that when i get cats back into my life :)

I had for nearly 18 years a female cat who was altered. She WAS very territorial. This gal I remember would attack those who came over to visit. She wouldn't attack those living with me. When my daughter was born. And we had a social worker over. That gal growled at the social worker when she picked up my daughter. Currently we have three cats. Two males(both altered) who are about 12.5 years old and one female who is lil over a year old and has shown no sign of going into heat. She and one of the males consider my man to be their 'hooman'. They both will each sit on his lap. Even when he is either eating or working on his computer. While the other male is VERY possessive of me. To the point he gets mad enough to spray the area in our main bedroom on my side if and when I leave the house. Though he has learned that if he doesn't pee during the time I'm gone. I'll reward all three with some catnip I grow.

Interesting views. I have been adopted by felines for decades and found that species does contribute to their behavior too. My elder big Maine Coon male Panther is intimidated by my little female Bombay. Both are 'fixed' and he is twice her size, so I think breed should also be a factor.

I have indoor 16 cats , all fixed and for me, I feel that neutered male cats are more affectionate. My girls are more aloof. They want attention also but they do not like to cuddle like my boys. Half of my babies are all adopted from rescue organizations and the other half are strays. My latest rescue is an 16 yr old diabetic male. He was one week away from death and I decided to give him a loving home for the latter part of his life. I am 72 yrs old and I am praying that I will outlive them so I will not worry about who will take care of my youngest babies of which I have 5 kitties under one year old. I’ve always had dogs and cats and I just want to say that they give me lots of joy. I live alone so they are my comfort.

2 neutered male cats, with the same education. One is playful, reckless, limitless energy, meows a lot and want to go out everytime he can, the other one is quiet and slow, loves to snuggle in a blanket all day long, he never manifested any will to go out. Individual personalities makes them symetrically different. One is easy mode, the other one is for cat experts 😀

My two male cats are litter mates that I had neutered at age six months. They do not like to be picked up, carried, or sit on my lap. Adopting them at 12 weeks, I've owned them for six years, and they seem to know when I'm angry or depressed, cuz they'll come and sit close to me. I've never gotten angry at them or raised my voice to them, nor do I expose them to strong fragrances like cologne or scented kitty litter. You should be tolerant of cat's behavior, cuz they don't understand being reprimanded. It will only cause them to distrust you. Clean their litter daily, provide them with several scratching posts, and GENTLY remind them not to scratch furniture.

I have a British short hair blue - she allows me to pick her up as i've gotten her use to me picking her up and cuddle/kiss her when I wake up and get back from work. However anything in between she can be fussy all on her terms. she tends to show her affection by following me around and sleep at the end of my bed :) she has the lowest meow soo adorable and she loves to headbutt me (gentle whilst purring)

These differences are overhighlighted, yes it's true that I've met more affectionate male cats than female cats, I've met and have bonded with plenty of female cats who were affectionate as well, and they were fixed. There's more to be said about environment, whether they're fixed or not, and individual personality imo.
