Wow, it sounds like you had quite the dynamic duo! Your female cat seems to have taken the role of an indoor sentinel, while your male cat patrolled the outdoors and socialized. Cats have such unique and fascinating personalities. It's wonderful to hear about their individual quirks and how they fit into our lives. Thanks for sharing your special memories with them. 🐾❤🏡

My female cat was FAR more aggressive and territorial than her brother. Not to humans, but mainly to strange cats which she attacked on sight. She also dominated the brother who was gentle and a bit timid. Both were very affectionate towards me, though the female was defiant at times and would occasionally challenge me as the leader of the threesome.

When a cat starts peeing outside the box, you need to take it to the vet. A UTI hurts, and they think it's the box that's hurting them. So they try to find a soft spot to go. To the vet right away. Untreated, it can kill them.

Absolutely right! Sudden changes in a cat's litter box behavior, especially inappropriate urination, can indeed be indicative of a urinary tract infection (UTI) or other underlying medical issues. Early detection and treatment can save a lot of pain for the cat and potentially prevent life-threatening complications. Thank you for highlighting the importance of prompt medical attention in such cases.

Years ago I found a small kitten outside my house. Too young to eat I had to bottle feed it for a week. I couldn't find any other kittens figuring it wandered off from its litter. I put the kitten with my two dachhounds and they mothered it, especially my female. The kitten slept under the covers with them. My female doxy thought it was her baby and washed it and protected it. I ended up with a cat that thought it was a dog. The three of them slept together ate together and hung out together. Cat even knew its name , would sit up and beg for treats and came when you called it. As the years went by the cat outlived both of those doxies. Not long after the second one past I brought a new dachshund puppy. Home. You guessed it the cat mother the dog. The two of them are always together. I've watch that cat wash that dog from head to toe and the dog just lays there and smiles. Funny thing is the cat is bigger than the dog. God sure makes cool stuff.

I have both female and male cat. The male cat is extremely more cuddly compared to the female. However, as stated, the female cat is a much better hunter. I live in sort of a village, so there are a lot of mice and rats in the yard. The female cat enjoys hunting everyday, and sometimes brings the "food" to me.

My anecdotal experience is that female cats often will pick one person as "their" person and often seek attention from mostly that person or singularly that person. I had one female cat that was so territorial for my attention that she would get aggressive towards anyone showing me attention and would only be allow pats from myself and a select few people. The catch was that she was the prettiest and softest longhair calico and everyone that visited wanted to pet her, only to be greeted with hisses growls, and clawed swipes.

oh I have similar experience, my sister's female cat love me and my scent even if I don't live with them. And she is sometimes pain in ass bcs want to be with me 24/7 and if I refuse then she is meowing like insane and jumping on me XDD Maybe better that I am "her" person bcs I am not living with them, so she is normal and accept my sister and her boyfriend and she just sleep in places where I was sitting the most or I was sleeping. And she act insane only when I visiting them.

That I have monitored as well. My female cats always focussed on me only, they put up with my husband and I was away, the cuddled just as much with husband. But If I was there, they followed me everywhere. My husband could cuddle with them, but they always layed down where I was, came to me for cuddles first, followed me even to the bathroom and made it very clear, that I was their beloved human. Now I have two male cats and they do not differentiate between my husband and I. Whoever they find first, they cuddle with. I miss my females so much :(

Fair comment. I see so many female cat owners get upset when they see "male cats are more affectionate". Male cats GENERALLY are more affectionate; that doesn't mean they always are. I adopted a male cat, Frajola (Silvester in Portuguese) six years ago, my very first experience with them. He's extremely sociable with every living being and loves to play in an aggressive way (but he never hurts, his force control is amazing). A couple of years later a female cat appeared in my yard. Wounded, skinny and deeply scared. I decided to give her some food and water. She let me pet her. Some days later she came back asking for more attention and the visits would become more often. Until one day, she decided to get in my house, I named her Agata Mia (it's a wordplay for "The [female] cat meows" in Portuguese). Such a lovely girl with humans and dogs, but she hated my other cat's guts so much. She used to spoon with me to sleep every night. Unfortunately I got divorced and my ex wife took her away as part of a deal. Honestly it's was good for everybody since Mia hated Frajola, even thought he tried so many times to socialize with her, but always ended up getting attacked. But I know she was more attached to me (both of them actually, since I was always the one feeding and spending time with them). There's simply no way I see her again since it would imply on seeing my ex too and I would rather be dead than doing it. Still, it's been two years and yet I miss Mia and dream of her almost every night.

I imagine just like in humans there is a a lot of variance in individual traits. Some women are stronger than some men. Not many, not the average, certainly not the right end of the curve. But definitely some. So it goes for friendliness in kitties I presume. Also there's breed differentials. An orange tabby girl is probably gonna be more friendly than a black cat male (guessing.)

Male dogs are often too intense with their affection, but I think they’re easier to bond with. I lived with one male dog I really liked because he was much more relaxed than a typical dog. I eventually realized what I really needed was a cat. I got a male one, now I have too. I still like the female cats I know, but it’s just different.

Male dogs is just to tiresome, they want to and try to be boss all the time and if you let your guard down and let them think they are boss for just 1 second you have a really hard job getting them of thinking they are the boss... Male dogs is just more work then I like and want. For the same reasons I prefer cats to dogs even if female dogs is a little more easy to handle. Also I do not like to be the boss... But with a dog YOU HAVE TO !

i've had the exact opposite experience, but in the end it doesn't matter, because everyone's experience is anecdotal. currently i have a spayed female cat who is almost irritatingly affectionate and clingy, but all of the neutered male cats i've had in the past were very independent and could take or leave human interaction. i've also had only neutered male dogs and good experiences with all of them, but know some spayed female dogs (owned by family members and friends) who honestly get on my nerves and are really annoying and over the top. but again, anecdotal experience. every single cat and dog is different, and ultimately, especially when they're neutered and spayed, their sex doesn't matter. i think people should judge animals on an individual basis. until there are literal studies done on the social habits of cats and dogs by their sex, then any discussion is just anecedotal.

My female cat is so sociable and affectionate I can't really imagine what a more affectionate cat would look like. She sleeps with me throughout the night and spends 50% of the day either in my lap or on my desk where I am working. I also find it odd that neither of my cats have any interest in the outdoors even though they have free access at any time via the door that I have for my dog. I think most of the socialability of cats is largely determined by how you interact with them while they are still kittens.

My 18 yo kitty boy lives to snuggle. He's the snuggliest out of the 5 cats I've had as an adult. He's a 1 person kitty. That may be because I rescued him from the alley when he was 4 weeks old--too young to be taken from his mother, but he had and injury that required an operation. So I grabbed him when I got the chance. We bonded, but he never really bonded with anyone else. His house brother, a big orange tabby named Guido, died a couple years ago. He was very friendly, but not snuggly. He'd been a snuggly kitten, but I found out my ex had been abusing him secretly. Men and house parties made him very anxious. He always sat next ro me or on my desk, but would walk away if I petted him too much. He followed me around d the house like a pup. I loved that boy. He was a watch dog and growled when people were on our property. In later years, he also attacked different dog guests that came to our house. He felt he was protecting his family. Their house sister, Luna, was an odd kitty. She was a rescue that had been severely abused. She was very slow to connect. It took a couple years, but then she became quite indiscriminately affectionate. She liked men and women and befriended most everyone. She lived to be 20 and was very demanding and in my face asking for attention in her last years. She was the fiercest hunter and the wildest and most determined of the three, breaking through screens to get outside once I'd decided to make them all indoor cats. Kitties are wonderful ❤

Also, my male cats got on with well each other, and with my older female cat. Now the two female cats aren't too keen on each other. Always having little fights. My cats, including strays who've walked in and adopted me, have loved me fully, deeply, and honestly, in their own special ways. Males have indeed been more overtly demonstrative, but the females love no less. They have tended to try and "mother" me, especially when I was a child. My male cats have been hungry for hugs, but the females often want my lap more, and purr like mad. They also try to groom me.

I asked my cat and she said she's nonpinary, i.e., she doesn't believe there exists a constant that relates to a circle's circumstance and radius. It doesn't matter how I show her the proofs of pi, she just goes to her window seat tail held high and takes a nap, unmoved.

And only male left and others got adopted because my family think they were too playful, naughty and frisky while male cat done nothing except sitting laying etc. He is just vibing all they with or without any playmates. And he is most loyal and friendly out of all. Sterilised and socialized male cats literally have no aggression or irritation and they are extremely cuddly. I’ve had mostly female cats, although have had a couple of males. One male was very cuddly (neutered) and the other was more 50/50 and has mood swings (adopted intact stray). My females ranged from extremely cuddly to very cold and distant. All of them were spayed so it didn’t seem to make a difference with the spaying. One female was extremely territorial and would beat up my male cat and any other cats in the local area. She was distant with humans but openly aggressive with other cats. This was despite her being small! Now I have a lovely female lapper who is probably my second friendliest cat of all time. My friendliest was also a spayed female. Third would be the neutered male. I’ve had around 10 cats lol.

In my experience male cats are significantly better hunters. I had a huge pure black tom when I was younger - not only did he bring fresh kills to the doorstep pretty much every day but from the day we brought him in to the day he died we never saw raccoons around the house anymore. I've had female cats since, and I've noticed they're more likely to play with prey than actually kill it. They're also way more affectionate.

The first one as a kid, Mr Stripes, finally did bond with my mom after I left the house. The 2nd male cat, yeah he wanted nothing to do with any other person other than me, like would run and hide when I had people over. My two females, well they have never met a stranger, anytime I have people over they rub on everybody and act like pre-madonnas wanting to be the center of attention. Heck I let them out and they two time with the neighbors who feed them treats/love on them. Also that 1st male cat I had as a kid was a murder machine, better hunter than both my female kitties.

First off, it’s “PRIMA-DONNA.” I see you did try with the clever “pre-madonna!” 😂 “Prima-Donna” is the correct usage. It’s all in the pronunciation and where the person speaking the word(s) places the emphasis on the word(s)that are being spoken. The ability to think contextually is very important. Not truly critical but important. A kind of “Read the room” type of concept. Second, here’s a couple of “old sayings” (I know, I know! I’m also thinking FFS!!) for you to repeat to yourself all throughout your life. These words may help you navigate the real world and all of the “gray” or “grey” area. If you allow yourself to be open to their message(s)Let’s start with…”There are exceptions to every rule.” There you go. “Truth is stranger than fiction” is another saying you might want to pay attention to. In this video? The narrator never says these facts are set in stone or absolute. It’s important to consider NATURE as well as NURTURE in any individual case. I’m not sure how old you are but I’m hoping you’re young enough to learn something and old enough to have learned that you don’t know everything, that you never will, and that you’re not always correct. It’s okay. Take a deep breath and assess if there’s any REAL threat in knowing these things. Does it pose danger to you-real danger to your physical form or health-to admit these things? Most likely, no. That’s how life works. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule. 😉😁That’s also how life works. Both can be true and false at once. Maddening as it seems. And it is mad! If you can? Learn to laugh at yourself! Life will be much more enjoyable. For you and all else concerned. I’m not suggesting that you behave like a simpleton, either. Far from it. I have to admit that I’ve made the assumption (I do know better than to assume) that you’re still relatively young…based on your username and your misspelling of the word “PRIMA-DONNA”although, I think that you thought you were correct there as well-didn’t you-as it’s placed rather assertively in your statement; coupled with the aim on your part to use the “dash”as in “pre-madonna” (Before Madonna? Circa B.M. indeed.😂 Does anyone remember a world before that hit the scene? She’s unrecognizable now. She keeps telling us she’s Madonna and I’m grateful because whatever that is? Looks NOTHING like the woman I remember.😅😅 Not even close! Sorry, I digress) suggests true zeal. And? It’s kind of endearing. But it’s indicative of having not been taught spelling, grammar, punctuation or anything else that’s required to construct a sentence. As I read what you have written it doesn’t seem as if English is your second or, not your primary, language. If so? Apologies. In that case? You’ve done fantastic! But I’m guessing you’re not yet 30? Or maybe very early 30’s? The username suggests that you’re an Aerosmith fan. Which isn’t terrible. It’s important to keep the art and the person creating the art separate and all. But google Steven Tyler if you’d like to confirm that he is an abomination of humanity. Just one extremely sick puppy! Hey! Good luck to you and your lovely cats!! It sounds like they love life and you for making their lives so great!! Cats, ‘eh? Thanks for the laugh!! I hope you don’t take offense. But, that’s up to you! ✌🏼🕊

He was about 12 months old. We found out he will get into any car in which the door or windows are open. He is also aggressive, not sure if it's his breed, if he was on his own for a while or abused. It has taken awhile but he is calming down though we have to keep him separated from our other cats. He likes to go on walks, when we take our dog Smokey follows us. Over all he is a good 😺. I have had many but not one as aggressive as him, I am glad he is part of our family and I think he feels the same way

Kept wondering how he remained so slim eating so much food; lurked one day and saw it all. Cats like company. Otherwise the Colosseum in Italy wouldn't be virtually over run with cats, yes? Female cats are going to be very hostile while they've got kittens, protectively. Males only fight territorially. Are Tom cats wild? By definition, the domestic cat has been...domesticated! I don't think just because a litter is not born around humans that it somehow un-does 10-20,000 years of domestication, which is probably what people that buy exotic animals don't understand. Feral and wild are not quite the same. House cats are more like lions, they are more generalists and more adaptable to changing conditions, so the idea that they are all loners in the 'wild', is a false one. It is probably another reason they are so successful. Humans are also generalists. Specialists are not going to fare very well over the next 100 years. Good bye beautiful Snow Leopard.

I have many decades of experience with cats. In general, males are more affectionate. Also, spaying and neutering helps tremendously with spraying, but not necessarily if they have already established the habit, but it does NOT make cats roam less in ANY experience I've had. Females roam less in general than males, but both go where they want regardless of spaying and neutering.

I've had a good mix of male and females cats over my lifetime. The most affectionate and outgoing cat was a female but she seems like an outlier as all of my shy cats were female. One consistent trait is that if you have a male cat that goes outside, regardless of if he is neutered, he will scrap with other cats. Anticipate more trips to the vet. I also noticed that my female cats would only seriously scratch me early on when they didn't know me that well yet. Once the relationship was established if they swiped at me they tended to keep their claws in and just do a little slap. If the male cats swiped at me, the claws would be out. They also tended to get a little carried away in play and thus swipe at me while being affectionate, while the females tended to swipe when they were mad at me.

We had a couple terrifying tomcats on the farm, or, well, in the forests adjacent to the farm - even after we caught them and neutered them, their behaviours were set and they continued to beat the heck out of all the other cats [and killed a couple, I fear, I was only a kid and not totally clued in]. Finally my dad took each one individually, and drove them to their own private wilderness valley a few valleys over in the coastal range where we lived. I do wonder if there was some sort of wild cat bred into them that made them so violent and independent. We knew the mother, she was a domestic cat on the farm, but she went out into the wilderness and came back pregnant, so who knows. Most of the cats were normal, but those two guys…

We had two kittens who hunted like male cats, but until now, I didn't know the difference. And the reason why is because they were taken from their mother too early, and my tomcat intervened, behaving as a father. The girls acted like males because my tomcat, treating them as daughters, taught them how to do cat things. But he taught them what he knew, not what a queen would know. Now it makes more sense.

I’m so glad you noted that male cats are more likely to spray urine than females, if not neutered early. Because of some very sad experiences with spraying cats I had to rehome as outdoor cats, I no longer adopt adult males, if I don’t know if they were neutered before 5 months. I have always early-neutered and they do just fine with the surgery. It’s much better than not being able to find a house for a cat who sprays, as they are immediately put down, if you take them to a shelter and honestly answer about their behavior problem. Sometimes Feliway or other pheromones sprays and diffusers really help, after a month or two. Other times, they don’t.

Male cats are more free spirited that I faced more difficulty and problems keeping them indoor especially on toilet train errors, even while at very young age where spraying did not take place, in comparison to female cats where they're more ample to be organised, proper and hygienic. By this I noticed only female cats are ideal to be indoor companions while male cats (unneutered) are best as outdoor (houseyard) guardians especially to prevent outsider male cats from settling (territorized) in our area. With experience raising both males and females indoor to their adulthood, it ended up male adult to be more clingy instead, while females are more laidback in their own space. Guess that makes another reason why male cats better raised outdoor since it's good when cats could discover its own life and space, not too attached to their human parents and what I meant outdoor is if you live in landed house with sufficient size of yard so they'd be your own garden or houseyard cat, not straying around, plus our housing system got each houses gated and even as yard cats they do have curfew hours in cage daily for social control and especially for toilet training, while we too still have one small part of soil and grass land to backup cats' (particularly male cats) free spirited errors. Both male and female cats would face 70% deficit or loss in their hunting and territorial nature once they're neutered and spayed, so regardless of a male's outdoor nature, indoor may still be the best for him once neutered (especially when its with testicles removed) otherwise he'd get bullied out there. The affection rate may not differ much between males and females once neutered and spayed, since females are not bothered with childbearing. Edit: Hunting wise, better hunter isn't determined by gender but the type of cat itself, measured by the color. There's no certain color to determine a hunter or non-hunter, however in average most of the natural hunters are cats of "stones" colors (dark grey, blackish and its shades), both males and females, who would not resist from hunting even if they're well fed daily. Often their color is the least desirable by people because of how basic and 'dull' it seems, but they're the best hunters and also the strongest in survival. There is ofc still some cats of other colors that hunt, depends on one's individual nature and affected by lifestyle (how necessary it is to hunt for survival), however most cats of these different color categories that are well fed daily but also still hunt are mostly males. To differentiate by gender, both males and females are equally involved although on different grounds where females may do it more to feed herself and offsprings while males do it more for the games and challenges, besides feeding itself. But just as human beings, cats gender too, differ by physical capacity where males are generally stronger, faster, not having to deal with pregnancy and birth, therefore in my experience male cats are more consistent in hunting with more number of mice caught, in comparison to my female cats. This is speaking based on my experience and observation from a home setting where cats are fed daily and aren't pressured to hunt to fulfill hunger.

Female cats have always been very interested in me, rub round my legs, purr, nuzzle and run to greet me, or sniff me, and even protected me on one occasion from a nasty snarling dog, but males don't seem to be as loving, they either aren't interested or they will approach but a bit more half hearted than the eager females. Obviously this is a generalisation, but the cats that love me most are female, and I'm female. Long haired ones are more snuzzly than short as well. But any cat that wants to love me is very welcome to my pats, boops and snuggles ❤

When people are over my male cat is definitely the life of the party while my female one just sits above on her perch and observes. When its just me, my female follows me around like a little shadow waiting for chin scratches.

I've had 2 cats in my life, both female. Tiff (rip) was a grumpy shit. Sally is a sweet natured cat. Loves her cuddles.

I've had 4 cats in my life of which 2 male 2 female. Both females cuddly AF both males not so much but they were the only ones bringing back (usually) dead animals.

A lot of the comments here seem to be missing the part where they very clearly stated that these are _generalizations_ and that every individual cat will vary lol

One thing I've noticed is that female cats put a LOT more effort into cleanliness.

Had male and female, woman was more cuddling, but she hated all other cats including our male cat, she was not a hunter, our male cat always hunted, didn't come to cuddle but would allow you to carry him any time when the girl only came to us to cuddle but would not let you grab her when you wanted

My male is super laid back and sweet but also more reserved. He will take great care not to scratch you. My female is also very sweet but she is a velcro kitty. She always wants to be pet or sleep on you. She however likes to scratch when she's gets upset and her switch flips instantly. It's kind of like having a bomb in your lap that can't be diffused and you know will eventually go off lol. My female is the black and white beauty in my pic.

Again, that depends. My females never scratched. You could playfully fight with them with your bare hands and arms. They would hold my wrist with their frond paws and do this heavy scratching movements on my underarm with their hind legs like crazy. And I never had a real scratch from that. My current males are not mean also, but I can only describe them as more clumsy and rough. I always have scratches after playing with them. I have never had a cat like you describe....that claws when they have enough or switches to attack in a second. With all of my cats, 5 in total, I could always do whatever I want. If they do not like what i am doing (picking them up like a baby for example) I see their faces are lie: here we go again, I'll just wait until she puts me on the ground again....oommmmhh, ooommmmh :D

This was surprisingly informative! Yes, if you’re equipped to birth and raise a dozen kids a year you’ll be hyper vigilant and efficient.

Every lap cat I've ever had or been around has been a female. The males tend to not even like being picked up. They have also been the ones who prefer high perches.
