This is really cool and brings back a lot of memories. I used to do this as a kid. We were really poor and I would buy a jumper or cardigan for a few pence from a jumble sale and I'd see how many things I could make from it. I would always do a hat, socks or legwarmers first because they were the easiest for me. I'd do mittens as well and I'd make kind of a neck warmer/collar to wear then I'd usually do little teddy bears and doll clothes. I'd use the tiny scraps to stuff the teddies. I'd never made a bow though because I never thought of that.

April, it was so ingenious how you used every square inch of that sweater! This is very natural to you but for beginners trying this, if you want results that look as good as Aprils it's absolutely important to cut the items on the grain, meaning the long lines of thread from up to down on the sweater should correspond to the main horizontal or vertical axis of whatever you are making. Happy zero waste crafting!

It might make for easier sewing the mittens if you sew the thumb piece halves to the hand front and back and then sew the whole front to back mitten together. A serger should do a great job on this kind of project.

I posted your vid to someone in the Pattern Review community looking for quick projects to teach teens, which can be done with a 3 thread serger only. Believe the tube socks and the mittens can both be accomplished v quickly on a serger, and are great 30 min projects for kids when done that waym

Have you tried using an even-feed foot for sewing the material? I'm a total noob, so I'm not the most credible, but I heard it helps stop knit fabric from stretching while sewing and that's why my seams were wavy.

Clear elastic is great for adding a little stability & eliminate the pucker without sacrificing the stretch. Sew it to the inside of the seams after sewing them together, then trim. Another great video, thanks! :)

I love, Love, LOVE that you use all your scraps for stuffing. I recently started doing that too. I've been using all my acrylic, polyester, and arctic fleece scraps and thread bits to stuff a new flannel camping pillow I'm working on. It seemed like a good, responsible thing to try to repurpose all this stuff that can't biodegrade or be recycled. Love your videos!

-Sewing knits -- you need a Babylock SERGER !! You could also make kitty catnip toys with the scraps and leftovers... cats LOVE EM.... sew in catnip :) Also, with sweaters you can create kitty shelter sleeping mats (with insulation/fill)

If you don't have an overlock machine what you need is a twin ballpoint needle for your regular machine bc they are designed for sewing knits without curling. Or work on adjusting the length of your zig zag to give you more/less stretch

Well done! I love the "zero waste" concept. And I think the Barbie Doll sweater is probably my favorite just because it's so cleverly done out of the tiniest scraps. I knit mittens, and they all have the thumb knit on separately, so your idea of adding it was spot on. I would suggest maybe adding the thumb to each piece first and then sewing around the entire mitten. It might make it easier overall. :)
