People (not all but most) don't think about the time, effort and energy that goes into making clothes. And the better looking the garment, the more it takes. There's just something telling me that this little Lady is bound for big things in her life.

THat was one beautiful tight narrow hem on the sides of those pants there I can see your brain has really developed your eye hand coordination to a very fine level! I was a uni psychology prof. before I retired and love watching peope's skills develop...if people stick with something they like they get better and better at it....love seeing your skills grow...certainly YOUR sewing skills are beyond mine now and I have been a hobby sewer for decades (just not consistently because I sailed on a liveaboard sailboat for a decade which made sewing by machine pretty impossible at anchor). THere is a theory that it takes 1,000 hours of practice to get one's skills up to an excellent level, whatever the activity (golf, tennis sewing , reading, studying programming, whatever........your brain justs does any activity better and better with practice. So follow your passions whatever they are....keep at it and you can do amazing things as you amply demonstrate already!

In the summer I went thrifting and got a pair of pants for $4. Once the winter came, I realized I didn't like them at all! So, I turned them into skirt which I am now in LOVE with. I've been sewing for about 6 years, but transforming clothes I don't love anymore has never occurred to me before I watched your videos!! I recently thrifted my prom dress (in such good condition you would think it was brand new) for $35. I don't love the shape of the top on my body so I think I'm going to transform it! Time to binge your videos for ideas!

That was me- for the first 18 years of my life. I didn't have any clothes (including school uniforms) that weren't made by me or my mum. I had NO idea what to do when it came to shopping. Mum even made my swimmers and underwear! That would be so embarrassing these days but it USED to be more affordable in the 60s and 70s... before everything was manufactured in China or 3rd world countries. Now it costs more to buy a sewing pattern than to buy the actual clothes!
@cherylseybert5669

@@loverlyme but you can use a simple pattern multiple times and change it up! And you can find fabric for super cheap! So at the end of the day, I save money and the clothes are high quality!

You remind me of my mom and aunt. Those two ladies up-cycled grow before the words can into existence. They also had amazing sewing talents. While in high school, I picked up a Valentino skirt that I wanted more than anything! Something about the fabric and the way the flowers seemed to sway at I walked in them. Mom looked at the shirt inside and out and told me we were going to make a skirt, better than that and for much better price. A week or so later later, my mom surprised me with a glorious skirt! She couldn't find "the exact fabric" with the flower prints, but created her own fabric by joining two fabrics: one with a the flowers and one withought. My mom took apart the weave near the flowers and she "weaved them into the fabric without the flower. To make them twurl better, she even sewed in three of my marble (toys) at the bottom of the hem. Her skirt fit me even better, than the Valentino skirt. I wish I'd keep that skirt. I love what you. Please continue to bless us with your talent. I may even get brave enough to try my hand. My best regret was not listening to my mom, when she wanted to teach me. She died way too young... I was still a child myself. But I'm reminded of her when I see creative people doing their thing. Thank you for sharing your Talent.

Well... In case you young'ns never heard of them, these pants came out in the 80's. They were called "diaper pants". You tied them in the front and in the back. The ankles were elastic and looked like harem pants. They were slit open on the sides and also came with matching bloused tube tops! I still have mine.I've actually had people try to con me out of them! I think I'll save them for the 1980's museum!! Damn we looked so hot.... Now we're hot with wrinkles!!!

Love how all of these turned out! I've been meaning to make a similar style of pants for myself with some fabric a dear friend gave me YEARS ago, but I keep just...not getting around to it. I think this is the year I buckle down and get them done, though. It'll be nice to have them when we get out of the snow and cold here. I think they'd also be REALLY nice to wear when my family takes a trip out to Australia in October, too. Comfy for the long flights to and from, and nice for some days out. OK...maybe I'll look through my stash and make more than one pair!

I have transformed 2 things already. A pair of my hubbys old jeans into a jean skirt and the one i truly love, I found this faux suade jacket in a resale shop for less than a euro. i loved the fabric but it was too big and the syle was NOT good! boxy, squre and zero interest. So i bought it and shaped it into a parka jacket and bought some funky printed cotton to add details. people think I bought it! I LOVE it soooo much! Thanks for being such an amazing inspiration.

April! I do so love how everything turned out but in particular those pants are so great and so trendy right now. I did have a sewing question which I figure you probably might not see but there are usually other co-workers in your comments section so guys this question is for you! In order to get tops that fit in a chest I buy a certain size my question is how is the shoulder of a shirt supposed to fit is it supposed to have the theme slightly lower laying on your arm where is the shoulder seam supposed to be right where your arm and your shoulder meat like that Kris? Because since I'm plus-sized I find that all of the seams usually lay on my arm which is uncomfortable for me I feel like I'm constantly shrugging and like it's just always too big in the shoulders! Which made me realize I really don't know how items are supposed to fit in the shoulders. So are the shoulder seam supposed to meet where your shoulder and arm connect or overlap on to your arm a little bit?
@carrie9716
@carrie9716 5 жыл бұрын
Ashleigh, I’m no expert, but I think the shoulder for a standard t shirt or blouse should hit where your shoulder drops to your arm. A general rule I follow is to raise your arm in the air and feel the spot where your shoulder actually moves. The seam should be at about the bend between your arm and shoulder. (One of my fashion teachers said to picture your shoulders like a 90 degree angle and the seam should hit just before it drops to your arm) From what you described, you are right that the shirt is too big in that area. It sounds like you have a larger bust so you buy a larger size than needed to fit around the chest it’s always better to have more fabric than less for alterations so it’s a smart move on your part! There are some good tutorials to take in only certain parts of a shirt to make it fit better if you want. I have the same problem with my shirts and dresses but before you go altering anything, look at a good picture of shirt sleeve types. (For example, Drop shoulder shirts and hoodies intentionally have a seam higher up on the shoulder. I can’t remember the technical names but there are other sleeve types that you could have. You want to make sure the style of shirt isn’t the issue before you alter it.) sorry to ramble, it’s hard to describe without showing you in person! Good luck with your shirts.

The way I mark my shoulder is by lifting my arms and looking for my natural crease because this is where I want a little bit of ease it's difficult when ur busty because ur shirts naturally get stretched on ur chest and it makes fitting a B**** HOPE THIS HELPS

LOVE those pants! Actually in early 80s, wrap-around shorts/pants were very much in style, and I bought some in the stores, but I was also learning to sew at that time so I also made a pair or 2 of shorts, and a pair of wrap-around knickers lol. Instead of putting in snaps on the sides, they had an option for a tie on the back that met in the middle of your back and I think you put snaps there. Or you could do a tie in back, too. They were my favorites! So it was cool to see you do them here :-) I love your videos!
