Instead of styrofoam you can make a structure out of metal wire than plaster it and it looks pretty good that’s what my dad used for one of his big mountains.

Great video! Thanks for the clips of you using the products - as a newbie I’m not always sure exactly how things are used.

Keep an eye out on eBay and local sale sites/groups for assorted scenery supply lots, you can find some phenomenal deals on a box of old and partial packages from someone liquidating a collection that's a great starter assortment to stock your scenery toolbox.

Being your from southern OK, I like to good ol OK REDdirt , I just sift the hell out of it . When it comes to dirt .
@StevesTrains Жыл бұрын
Yep, that works fine too. Just have to make sure you don’t have any organic stuff in there and you are good to go.

Yep, baking things is the way to go. That will take care of any critters or more importantly critter eggs.

Challenger is where I bought my first trains. Have yet to begin my first layout, but I'm accumulating tools and materials as I plan it out.

Just a quick note on the foam: It can be very hard to get in many European countries. It is not allowed to use in buildings (due to fire hazard, if I remember correctly). So our version of Home Depot does not stock it. So it can only be purchased in special stores for architects and model builders. And in those stores it is not cheap ;)

Interesting. That is good information. It is too bad that it is expensive and hard to find. Even in the US it is harder to find in the warmer southern parts of the country where it isn’t used as much.

It's not cheap in the US either.
@StevesTrains Жыл бұрын
No, but a lot cheaper than say craft foam from a hobby store or the woodland Scenics stuff. Also, you can sometimes find bigger scrap pieces for free from construction sites that they are happy to let you take.

Do you add some coloring to your sculptamold to use as a base?
@StevesTrains Жыл бұрын
Yes, I usually add some brown paint so it isn’t stark white. Mainly I do that so if I chip off some at some point it isn’t this glaring white spot.
