Thank-you Sebastian for taking the time to make a video about our beautiful island. Our capital has not been granted city status by the Crown, and is, therefore, a town. You mention our patron saint having his head cut off by pirates. You can see the parish crest of Saint Helier on the base of the cross in your picture. It is of two crossed axes - the weapon used to martyr Saint Helier.

I'm from Jersey. Excellent video. However Jersey French (jerriais) was still spoken in rural areas well into the 1980s by older people and French was more common upto the early twentieth century. The island is so small we speak more of 'town' (for St Helier) than using the word 'city' . Population is now 100,000 and is so overpopulated there are now housing problems.

Yes, I really want to learn Jerriais but there is literally nowhere online and it isn't taught at my school which is really annoying. (also virtually everyone speaks English. Jersey French is just this dead language that no one speaks anymore).

Just as in alderney the dialect is gone my grandfather told me one word tattagou. If we were loud .it means shutt up 🤭
