Great work Alfie. As a Sudanese person, I need to put some things in context re: al-Hilal al-Ubbayid. As you know, al-Hilal is a common name for teams in the Arab world. It means ‘The Crescent 🌙’. In fact, there are four clubs named al-Hilal in the Sudanese top flight alone: Al-Hilal Omdorman (you used their team picture used on 9:34), al-Hilal of al-Fashir in Darfur, al-Hilal of Kadugli and al-Hilal of al-Sahil in Port Sudan. Every al-Hilal in the Arab world tends to be blue and to have the crescent in their badge. Al-Hilal al-Ubayyid originally had the circular badge but they changed it to the crest shape that Everton also has. They just wanted to differentiate themselves from the other al-Hilals, especially al-Hilal Omdorman - which is, unfortunately, the leading club in Sudan (through corruption, but that is another story). However, al-Hilal al-Ubayyid’s badge still has its distinct features. For example, the tree has always always been a part of al-Hilal al-Ubbayid’s badge because they are based in al-Ubbayid, which is the capital city of North Kordofan, a state that has been historically known for its greenery and predominantly agricultural economy. My ancestors migrated there from North Africa for this specific reason. Still, you’ve done a great job, Alfie. The vigorous research is simply incredible considering that this information is hard to find in English. And the fact that you cover football from less fashionable / media-friendly countries like Sudan is your niche in the market. This is why I watch all your videos.

In Juventus Bucharest's case though, the team itself is a team that actually exists since 1924, and even won the romanian 1st league in 1930. After WW2 the original team moved to Ploiesti and became Petrolul Ploiesti, going on to win 3 more league titles and 3 national cups. However, in the 90's a group of people in Colentina neighbourhood, Bucharest, decided to kinda "refound" Juventus Bucharest. A nice initiative, however they didnt make the best badge decision...they made it to the romanian first league in 2017, but immidiatelly relegated back to the 2nd league after their first season there, and with that, Juventus Torino has found out about this and decided to sue them. Unfairly, the team also had to give up the "Juventus" name, not just the badge, because of the fact that Juventus already had registered the "Juventus" name and no other team was allowed to use it, even if this team had this name a long time before Juventus Torino has done that action, and the name should have been spared, as it was the team's historical identity, no copying. The team rebranded into "Daco-Getica Bucharest" and competed in the 2nd league for 1 season and a half with that brandong before being disbanded, as the owner became disinterested in running an identityless club and nobody wanted to buy.

Juventus Bucharest or Colentina from 2017 had nothing to do with the original Juventus Bucharest from 1920s and 1930s. The original,like you said,become Petrolul Ploiesti. The Juventus Colentina from 1990s and 2000s had nothing to do with the original . They changed their name in Juventus in 1993 and their original name was FC Calculatorul Bucharest. So Juventus Torino was right to sue in this case. In the future if Petrolul Ploiesti would want to change their name back to Juventus they could because they have the papers to prove it. In the court of law only the documents count. Only in the case like this Juventus would back down. Also I want to add that before we can judge foreign teams we should first resolve our internal problems like there are too many teams with the name Rapid,Dinamo,Steaua or Craiova and others and no one seems to be bothered about this which i found very strange. I wonder what LEEDS UTd will do if 10 teams decided to name themselves Leeds united?
@TheWoollyFrog2 жыл бұрын
As you said, the old Juventus Bucharest is present day Petrolul Ploiesti. They dropped their Juventus name in 1947. The team from Colentina (founded 1992) that until recently went by the same name not only stole from Juventus Torino but also took on the identity of a more accomplished Romanian club. They were able to get away with this greasiness while in the lower leagues because no one in Romania took copyright laws seriously and forging documents was a popular hobby among club owners. The team in question was the product of an era of extreme bureaucracy and corruption that the entire country is slowly trying to move past. There is nothing sad about this club folding and everyone is better off without it.

Alfie,as a long time subscriber I’ve decided to finally throw a suggestion in.Lubomir Moravcik originally played for Czekoslovakia (then Slovakia) but had a fairly unheralded club career which until he joined Celtic at 33,had peaked at Ligue 1 for Bastia and St Etienne.Although Zizou’s admiration for Francescoli is well known,less well known is that Zizou called Moravcik “the best #10 in the league” and he was set for a move to the more heralded Marseille until Tapie’s antics put the blockers on that.Point being that people were blown away by Moravcik,who joined Celtic from Duisburg (or Wolfsburg without checking?) when he was signed in a very underwhelming move for the fans by an unsuccessful coach only to leave as the most skilled player ever seen at the club by my generation (himself and Henrik Larsson signed for a combined £980,000) and scored a double in a 5-1 against Rangers within a fortnight of arriving.Theme could be “undiscovered gems” or maybe with the likes of Stoijkovic as “Potential World beaters who never fulfilled their true level” Just a thought.👍🏻

in Portugal, Santa Clara's badge is pretty much the same as Benfica's Benfica e Castelo Branco and Angrense also have identical badges to Benfica, but in the case of these two, I think there was some connection at least in the beginning of the clubs I don't know about Santa Clara

Brilliant vid as always, Merry Xmas, and whilst I agree that they look the same, I didn't find either the Irish or Israeli badges as disgusting as you did, but vive la difference!

The Irish badge is fairly shit tho, we should change it to an actual shamrock or make it less arse

I understand what you are saying about how template-y the Ireland and Israel national team badges look in general. But I think you may have missed something with Israel’s badge. The design inside the icon that’s supposed to look like a football, the lines create a Star of David. I think that’s pretty neat to subtly put that in there. I can sort of see the abstract shamrock shake in Ireland’s badge but the Star of David in Israel’s is a little most visible and I think it’s a neat touch.

HITCSevens, please do a video about the best XI in the Premier League since 1992 in each position e.g Schmeichel, Cech in goal, Neville, Azpilicueta, Walker at right back. It would be brilliant.

Nice video.. for a while I always wondered how FGR were able to get away with their old crest. Also, Ireland, Israel and Slovakia with those templates are so lazy, they must have inspirations to draw from

Inter Milan really messed their badge/Crest up by taking the gold color away. It looks like a generic randomly generated badge now.

It is getting out of hand no there are 2 of them... or 2 suggestions of mine. Let's make it a triology with this suggestion: Day 1: Top 7 second teams in football (Hartha BSC II which almost won the DFB Pokal, Real Madrid Castilla who lost to their first team in the spanish cup in 1980 but got into Europe, Wellington Phoenix Reserves who play in the NZ National League)

I passed by a video of the CAF Women's Champions League one time and found that Guinean club Malabo Kings essentially ripped off the logo of the old Sacramento Kings for their club crest, if you're willing to do a follow up in the future
@gerardsotxoa2 жыл бұрын
In Mexico the first profesional Champions were teams made from spanish settlers. Asturias F.C. and Real España. the name of ''Real España'' was granted by the King of Spain together with Real Madrid and the others ''Real'' teams in Spain. I guess Real Potosí had a similar story and anyways i think the city still keeps the title ''Royal City''.
@Boredoutofmywits Жыл бұрын
Nah, the Bolivians just copied the name. Well to be fair it wasn't a Bolivian, it was a homesick Spaniard and Real Madrid fanatic named Samuel Blanco, a mining businessman. but he disn't apply for it. Had he, probably it would, as the Spanish Monarchy never spare a goodwill gesture with a Hispanic country (At least a free goodwill gesture).

Can you do a documentary on the afc Wimbledon on the nine promotions in eleven years, how they’re a fan own club and how they have a stadium in plough lane now. The story of they lost the club, how the F A allowed that and won’t allow that anymore. How they went up the English football leagues.

Lokomotiva Zagreb stole its crest from Juventus Ansu slightly midfield it. Tuzla City stole name, Colorado crest from Manchester City. CD Santa Clara stole Benfica Lissabon’s crest. This kind of stealing needs to be forbidden and heavily punished
