He effectively retired 15 years ago. The only reason he's still "active" is to break records, and for that reason his club tries to include him in 2 or 3 matchday squads a year. It's ridiculous when you look deeper into it.

I saw a video last weekend about the oldest footballer in my country (amateur teams included, but officially registered by the National Football Association of our country, the Netherlands). He was 84, and still played the first 15-20 minutes of every game of his amateur club. And it was very low level, but he didn't go easy, running around, tackels if needed. But you had to pass straigt to him, he wouldn't run on deep balls anymore. I was stunned, what a legend.

Roque Santa Cruz is still playing at 40 years old, he was meant to retire at Olimpia this year, but ultimately decided to continue playing elsewhere, possibly a Libertad (another Paraguayan club). He was still in top form between 2018 and 2019, even scoring 4 goals in one match against Cerro Porteño. Sadly, he started getting injured more frequently last year (which made him lose his previous form), although, he still made some crucial goals and assists recently in both Copa and Supercopa Paraguay.

I dread the day Ibrahimovic retires. I remember him from his Ajax days, he's pretty much my age give or take so I watched him grow older as I did. When he retires I'll have to admit I'm old - the longer he keeps going, the more I can pretend I'm not quite past it yet. The funniest one is Rooney, when he burst on the scene at 16, he made a slightly older me feel old because he seemed just a kid yet played like a man. Now the dude looks twice my age 😂 he's 4 years younger than Zlatan and was finished at the top level years ago when Ibra is still going strong. That's a crazy thought.

R9 didn't "run out of steam", he had issues with his system with a disease that would not allow him to digest food properly, thus he kept gaining weight. This was found out after retirement. Also, R9 had to play with remnants of injuries that had nearly destroyed while he had extra weight. R9 didn't run out of steam, his medical issues finally caught up to him & had to retire. In fact, if he played now with the advances of medical sciences... probably he would have been the best to ever exist in terms of records.

. Our local Southern or Wessex League side of the early 90s - Bashley , a hamlet on a B road with a Petrol Station, a tiny shop and a garden centre featured a certain Jimmy Case . They did manage a draw against Swansea City in the FA cup 2nd round and were drawn against Middlesbrough. Apparently the Boro were told that Bashley shared their ground with a herd of cows which prompted them to ask if they got past Swans in the replay could it get played at Ayrsome Park instead. Bash didn’t make it past the Welsh Wizards in White unfortunately.

Can you make a video about players who had played their best football at older age too like Gianfranco Zola at Chelsea, Luther matthaus and Modric.

When i was younger i used to respect Buffon and Ibrahimovic for not retiring, but because of them a lot of good players could not break through in the national squad! They are legends, but at some point you have to realize that you should give the chance to other people after holding a position for 20 plus years!

The National Team isn’t a place for development, it’s a place where if someone is better than someone else, they play. Italy lost nothing by playing Buffon for so long, at no point was he not the best player in his position.
