Great video, Nick. We do the change jar in our house with a small mason jar. Once it gets filled up, we decide as a family where we will donate the money towards. We once took all of our change and bought women's supplies to donate to a women's shelter in our area.

When it comes to food, I do intermittent fasting. I eat a lot on my feeding window then accommodate whatever things need to be done. Plus, it saves money on groceries.

totally agree, i have a iphone 7 and yes, the iphone 12 would be nice but my 7 can do everything i need it for...having new stuff is tempting but mostly unnecessary and expensive...

Dang, when I was a little kid 65 years ago in a small midwestern town, my family frequently ate home-grown lettuce sandwiches for our meals--with salt for the main course, and with sugar for dessert. That is a 100% true statement. Milk, when we had it, was measured out by the thimble-full. Breakfast was oatmeal with a little jam--every, single, day. My grandfather was a semi-truck driver and gave my father his used motor-oil so my dad would have oil for the family car. It was so thick and black that it would barely pour. To make money, my dad grew fishing worms in dirt-filled boxes kept in an old refrigerator. Who knew that we could've claimed we were on a minimalist journey? Calling ourselves minimalists instead of destitute would've saved a lot of heartache and hurt feelings. Many thanks.

I'm sure growing up having meals that modest has made you appreciate things you may have more access to nowadays. I believe humble beginnings shape the best character

one big purchase I made was back in Dec 2019, which is a laptop for my editing work and school, the person I bought it from is selling the laptop at 20% less of the price compare to the one directly from apple from my country, and its new but it an US import set, the only con was that he was not an authorised reseller so I am taking a risk, but he assured me that it was legit and during the time of purchase I checked out everything checked the seriel code and it was all green light, and I made the purchase, saved a solid 500USD from it, and it is still running strong till this day. And I used that money to travel to Japan. I have people initially telling me it was a scam and not to take the risk im glad I did. Just need do some research about the product beforehand. So all my big purchases from now on I will use this method if it is possible

I have a bamboo round box about the size of that jar, all my spare change goes there, once every few months I bring it to the Coinstar machine and cash it is, they charge 10 percent but I am not wasting time wrapping coins. It is usually from a hundred to 150 bucks and I do fancy food shopping, the stuff I am usually too frugal to buy, it is my reward for being frugal/ But what does spending your money have to do with being frugal? Did you use to throw the coins in the garbage? That is like saying you save 100 dollars bills so you can go spend them, I am frugal... Your third piece of advice is called 'Pay yourself first" I buy everything used, even clothing from Goodwill, you would be surprised how good the stuff is there. There is nothing wrong with getting a new iPhone, as long as it is the SE model, 400 bucks is a great price for what you get and it is good for many years. Finally, the DEFINITION of frugality is spending less where it doesn't matter so you can spend MORE where you want to, so of course you should have nicer things.
