did you know that the radiation rain on fallout 4 was actually a mod on fallout new vegas, I forgot what it was called but there was a mod on fallout new vegas that had those storms. I actually tweaked with it and set it so the radiation it gave was really high, so when it happened I got like 200 rads/sec so yea I died in like 2 seconds.

I think World of Warcraft deserves an honorable mention. I remember downloading a number of quality of life style add ons (forgive me if they're called something else, it's been a long time) that Blizzard eventually put something similar to into the game by default. Quest Helper to show you where to go to find quest objectives, Deadly Boss Mod to give you heads up when bosses were about to use their abilities, and an auto junk selling button that I forget the name of but I believe was called something like Millionaire. There are no doubt quite a few others but those are the ones that I remember off the top of my head.

Not really a mod but more of a glitch, but I heard that the Spy class in Team Fortress 2 was inspired by a glitch in the original Team Fortress game, where the Spy class would change to the colour of the other team, causing havoc. I love tethering lots of stuff in Just Cause 3 and then moving out of sight of the enemies before I reel them in. If they don't see you, they don't send out the troops to shoot you and you can walk right in front of them a minute later, tether more stuff, hide and retract, etc. It's kinda like stealth mode. 😂

it actually was a massive change to the core gameplay of Warcraft. Warcraft was about base building, a traditional strategy game whereas DotA completely threw that out the window and focused on hero customization and teamwork with 0 base building elements. Completely different games and not to mention that DotA is what started the MOBA genre we know today which is the biggest and most lucrative Esport industry.

The mods DayZ is good, but the stand-alone is pretty broken and has taken a loooong time to develop, which is pretty bad considering how common the concept is. Also "genius game ideas that came from mods". The idea itself didn't start with the mod, like Edward pointed out. Its an extremely common feature, and a shooter would be quite notable for /not/ containing it.

Seppä True, but there seems to be a lot of people who misuse "early access". The game tends to be mostly complete with smaller features being bolted on to keep interest. Typically in industry, the alpha/beta stages (EA tends to be one of those two, usually the former) are very incomplete and rough games. Compared to internal alphas, DayZ is basically completed.

How about the Stanley Parable? It started as a half life mod, and became its own game. I like it because every choice you make changes the outcome of the story, and a new ending for each choice.

LoL is not a warcraft mod. DotA was, and was created by Steve Feak (Guinsoo) which moved to RiotGames to create LoL. So for short, LoL was only inspired by the mod DotA. No hate, Both Great Games.

DotA 2 is the mod made standalone and with better graphics. Than there's the fact that it came out earlier, is more popular, most (if not all) clones are based on it, and it is a genius idea for a game that started as a mod, which is the title of the list :3

I don't know if this counts, but XCOM: Enemy Unknown's Long War mod did play a role in the making of XCOM 2 and it's War of the Chosen expansion. Plus, there is Long War 2.

Some of those Gameclips around 00:59 - 1:08 are from an MMO called Fallen Earth/FE. Either someone making a mod used art from Fallen Earth or those scenes are misrepresentations and labelled wrong as Fallout. In Fallen Earth in PvP areas You can upgrade bases, hire guards etc and it has a housing kinda system as well.

I played through and finished Fallout: New Vegas in Hard Mode during first play. The mod of adding stuff in FO3 and FO:NV is something I never heard about, so didn't try it. But hopefully we'll get dynamic weather in Fallout 4, either build in or as a mod!

Not sure about that last one.. Delta Force started off in 1998, and went on to release 3 more modern era shooters before the first Battlefield game released. Having played each in their time, I can very safely say they were popular, successful games. Damn do I miss playing Land Warrior.

League of legends is one. Kinda funny, it was based of the Warcraft III custom scenario Defense of the Ancients, which in turn was based of the Starcraft’s Aeon of Strife. LOL was made by some of the guys who worked on DotA, while others (Icefrog, I believe, the creator of DotA) worked with Valve to do the straight sequel game DOTA 2.

I have a genius mod idea , in fallout new vegas. If you had a low int char , you could say "Pizza Pizza" to everything Caesar says. If you said that to everything he says , you had a 50/50 chance to either make Caesar a merchant who sells pizza , or he would give you a giant pizza cutter.

Cause like The Team Fortress mod for Quake (then came to be known as Team Fortress 2) Then the Orion Prototype mod for Half-Life (which continued to be known as Orion: Prelude and other Orion games) And also the Arma 2: DayZ mod (which then came to be a standalone game known as DayZ)
