It happened at least twice on Feros-someone behind a barricade as you enter the colony and a woman on the stairs as you explore further. Each time, I shut down the geth before it could shoot, and each time the colonist bit an imaginary bullet.

Another character who I knew would make it out fine and live a long prosperous life was Tess from "The Last of Us". As a strong competent ass kicking female character and the only living friend of protagonist Joel it was always clear that nothing would ever bring her down. Her determined bullheaded nature that constantly got her in trouble, tendency to take greater risks than her male counterpart even after he specifically says that doing such a thing would get her killed, and having a generally more positive outlook on life even in such grim circumstances also cemented her position as a character who would die at a grand old age long after the credits rolled. Oh I'm so glad that we can all sleep well at night knowing that Tess will be A-Okay!

I’ll be honest, as terrible as it is to say, I just saved Carly because she had a vagina. People call it a potential romance option or whatever. I’d say pragmatically in a post-apocalyptic world, it’s simply her ability to give birth to the future of humanity that would make people more inclined to save her over him in order for the continued survival of your new tribe. Too bad I didn’t know that Telltale pretty much always kills off later whoever it was you had the dilemma of saving earlier. So no matter who you choose is usually pointless because you’ll pretty much never see them again in an episode or two.

You can make Ser Jory immortal if you use the Ostagar map hole to skip the Joining. After clearing Ishal, Jory as well as Daveth will become unkillable companions for the rest of the game. Only three things knock them out of their immortality. The official Proving in Orzammar (avoidable), the Shriek ambush on the camp (can be skipped with quick use of the travel map), and defending the gates at Denerim (avoidable if all non-essential party members are made to leave). Tome duplication can be used to boost their stats, skills, and talents. They can't be leveled up past level 4.

I didn't save Doug for several reasons: 1. Carley knows Lee's secret. At the time, I had thought that who I chose to save wouldn't matter, and that the other person would get themselves out/save themselves anyway. I didn't want to leave a bad impression on the one person at the time that I knew knew about Lee's secret. 2. Look at the way the Zombies have Doug; he could've easily wormed himself free by *moving his body downward*. While similarly, Carley could've easily kicked the Zombie off her foot, keep in mind her clothes at the time; she was wearing a knee-length skirt with no cut section to liberate her movement. I'm a man, and even I can tell that'd be a pain in the ass to walk in. 3. Carley's a sharpshooter who has experience in warzones. Her background information is confirmed to be that of a war reporter, so she's undoubtedly seen some action.

I think that by making characters who are about to die spout every reason they have to live, game designers (/writers, because movies can suffer from this as well) think that we'll feel bad when they do bite it. Unfortunately, it's often done so poorly that we can tell immediately that this person is going to die.

I've heard the opposite. I don't know a single person that kept Kaiden alive, because we all thought he was boring. Sure, Ash had some mildly-racist opinions, but she never acted on them. Beyond that, she was simply more interesting. Besides, there's no room for another biotic human on my team.

I heard generally different too, but I'm one who usually keeps Kaidan around. His romance is too hilarious (and somehow also sweet) in how seriously it takes itself to lose the option to. Plus his voice is really cute. And really, being less shallow for a moment... I kinda found all the biotic camp stuff a bit more interesting than all the family stuff. I guess both are interesting, but one's a bit more connected to the sci-fi whereas the other could exist in any story. The other reason is story... Ashley just plain seems more the type to sacrifice herself for military need than Kaidan, so it felt like honoring her character type. However he's meh in combat by the third game compared to Ashley, who kinda kicks ass. So I think my final playthrough's gonna keep Ashley alive (also for sake of difference, and also 'cos I'm romancing Liara so that wouldn't be a thing anyway).

I kept Kaiden alive, for what it was worth. I knew that decision was coming (I played the games out of order) and had all but decided to let him die, but I changed my mind shortly before that mission came up. Yeah, the guy was a dopey boy scout, and about as interesting as a sack of turnips, but Ashley the Trigger-Happy Space Racist was seriously starting to get on my nerves. Honestly, I wish I could have left them _both_ to die and brought Jack or Mordin into the story one game early.

Rost from Horizon Zero Dawn. Almost from the first word he spoke he was too good and too capable to survive long. His survival would drag the plot down while his death provided so much story drive. It pretty much had to happen.

Mr Sniffes I did that in a comic series I wrote. This guy, Ralph, average mercenary, nothing special, would make one hell of a high school PE teacher, but he keeps getting thrown into missions where he is in WAAAY over his head, all of his teammates die, and he always lives. Boss turns out to be an evil mastermind and blows up the bunker? Ralph lives. Group of superpowered ex-teammates show up to lay down a thick layer of justice and blood? Ralph survives. The horsemen of the apocalypse come to earth and his squad is sent to intercept Conquest? Ralph escapes. Dude's got the best plot armor money can buy.
