KenDBerryMD I need your help, there is something I need your opinion on that my doctor won’t be able to help me with, it’s rather personal.. I was wondering if I could get in contact with you somehow. It’s about whether or not the ketogenic diet is suitable for me considering my very special circumstances. Thank you doctor Berry

I cant recall if it's in this video or not, and I cant look back right now. But you said that we dont need to track macros or anything and just eat as much fat as we can. Wouldnt that be a bad thing, and make it to where we would be burning dietary fat instead of body fat ?

I started 23 weeks ago and I am down 75 pounds. All because I watched your skin tag video, which led me to eating Ketogenic. My whole family is doing it with great results. Blood pressure way down, off some high blood pressure meds, joint pain gone, more active, not hungry all the time plus other added benefits for a 53 year old man.

To avoid the Keto Flu I drink PowerAde Zero...the problem is your electrolytes get depleted because Ketosis pulls off excess fluid. Unless you replenish those electrolytes then you're going to get the keto flu. That's why Keto says to salt your food well. You can do low carb if that is more your comfort zone, but you won't see results as quickly and you won't reap some of the other health benefits that being in ketosis brings. However, low carb is still healthier than the SAD and if that is the path you need to take, then no one is judging you. Our bodies are all different and something that works for someone may not work for us (I was a raw vegan for 2 years before finding KETO and my weight NEVER budged and my triglycerides were through the roof!!) Just remember that consistency is key, not perfection. Good luck!

URSTANDINGONMYTOES Thanks for sharing your story. It is interesting you were raw vegan for 2 years and never lost weight. Were you predominantly fruit raw vegan, HCLF or eat loads of greens? I did the raw vegan thing for awhile and my candida was out of control and I was constantly eating. My weight didn't change a whole lot but I did have some energy. I have switched to Keto and the weight is starting to fall off...I have lost 4 kgs in a month. I try and keep to around the 20 gram but sometimes go to 30 grams of carbs. It's a real mind switch after raw vegan lol

I was a plumber for 30 years but I have a bad leg from an injury when I was young and I can't work anymore. Man alive, sure wish I could find a Dr. Berry clone where I live. I'm 75 and what he preaches is the way doctors used to be, for the most part. And then sometime in the late 70's possibly the 80's, more and more doctors began wanting to treat with drugs instead of leading a common-sense lifestyle. I am so impressed that he chooses to buck the current "doctoring" system. Very well done, Dr. Berry.

Thankfully, I never got rid of my old pants and shirts. Otherwise, the cost of buying new ones may have discouraged me from continuing on. In fact, that was probably one of my main incentives to keep going. So I can personally confirm that this change in lifestyle really works. Along with a lifestyle, I also consider it a tool. The single best decision I made is to go on a keto diet. I feel after 4 months the best I have felt for 20y. My inflammation is gone, my skin is like baby skin, my hear and sculpt is heald, I'm down 10kg and still going. My moods gone, self-love are back where it should be and my interaction with close one's is controlled and back to my values. That's is my best life change I have taken. Thx Doc for your help free insight and honest informative videos. Blessed you are Peace, Love and Respect j

I heard many times the explanation for water weight is, that to deal with lots of carbs the body needs more water. By eating less carbs the body gonna dump the water. I must say, this explanation was not plausible for me. Your explanation with inflammation makes more sense. Where can i read about this ?

Now 17 months in I'm 95 lbs lighter and will never go back to my sugar and bread. I am amazed how big I had gotten and forever grateful to Dr. Berry because he too saved my life. Keto for 5 months. Have lost 108 pounds and 10 inches in waist size so far. Started 16 hour IF daily about 2 months ago. Glucose level went from 190 fasted to 79-105 fasted. I've only seen 105 twice and both times were upon waking, the rest of the day was normal. I do track all meals and Macros now. My only problem has been getting enough fat. I'm not afraid of fat anymore but I still have a hard time Hitting the fat macro. I can't satan anything in my coffee so Bulletproof coffee is not an option. I guess I'll have to start making more peanutbutter cup fat bombs or find another source. Enjoyed this video so I subb'd to your channel. Thanks Doc. Berry.

Dennis Steele Do you count macros or calories?
@RockofAgesTheBand
@RockofAgesTheBand 6 жыл бұрын
I started by only counting Carbs and I was very diligent to never go over 20 carbs per day. I did that for about 3 months and lost a Lot of weight. I then downloaded The free version of My Fitness pal app ( I still enter everything I eat ,and all exercise I do ) and I started watching all the macros including calories and exercise (mostly walking). The thing about cutting carbs is , it's very easy to keep the calories down. I average about 1200 - 1500 calories a day and have a pretty physical job and am now dropping about 2-4 pounds per week.

I too am a family physician x 18 yrs now and have been doing weight watchers and jenny Craig off and on since college. You are absolutely right about gaining weight back if any slacking off happens with those diets or exercise (6 days a week for a freakin hour!-who has time for that when you have kids and a LIFE?). I have become a runner over the last 7 years doing about 13 half marathons and you would think I’d be a stick by now but oh no, the lowest weight I got by doing all that was mid 170s. I started reading and doing my own research this year about ketogenic diets and I am totally on board with you. I LOVE the way you talk in your videos-I’m not a hoity-toity doc either-keep it real with no BS. I still consider myself a Keto intermittent fasting beginner bc I’ve only been doing it for a couple mos now and I’m still tweaking stuff and though I’ve not lost a ton of weight, (have lost some) I feel like a ROCKSTAR! By watching your videos and a few other Keto gurus on you tube I’ve found a few things I’ve been doing that still spike that damn insulin. (Who knew that sniffing or tasting something sweet even though it’s not sugar, could do it? Not me till I watched that video of yours. The A-HA! Moment!). Thanks so much for doing these videos and educating the masses. I’ve shared your name/videos with a number of family and friends and I hope they get their own A-HA moment too. Common sense. This is total common sense. 👍🏻

As I drop the weight and don't need as many macro calories, I'll probably do this. However, when I have to eat 2000 calories, I'm going to be planning what I'm eating and recording everything. When people stall, others on keto say, 'You need to up your calories'. Then others say like you, 'Dont' worry about counting'. Well, you can't have it both ways! Either you have a minimum you need to eat or you don't. I will err on the side of making sure my caloric intake and macros are up to snuff. Maybe that will change 2-3 months down the road. Heading into my 3rd week of keto and I'm not going to sluff off now.

My best friends from childhood are Croatian. They would often invite me over for dinner. Dinner consisted of unbreaded pork chops and steak with either cucumber salad or shredded cabbage with oil and vinegar. Their dad, Milan, would use the salt shaker on chicken, pork, and steak that was fried in lard , paprika, and garlic. Copious amounts of salt he would use on the meat. He's never had heart trouble. Never obese. Early proof that KETO is the real deal.

Love your videos. I have been on there to diet for 4 months. I have lost 50lbs so far. I feel fantastic, I have come off 3 medications for high blood pressure and seizures, I was able to drop diabetes in it's tract. I did not have to start diabetic medication because I refused and told my doctor to give me three months. My doctor told me not to do the keto diet. She stayed how dangerous it was. So I did not do it sooner. I am a nurse and trusted her opinion. That was last October. Feb of this year she told me I was a diabetic and had to go on medication. That forced me to make a change. I started the Keto diet slowly in March I quickly noticed changes then went all in May. I love it and the changes have been amazing. I no longer use that doctor and as a nurse have changed my opinion on a lot of things i once believed.

The pallet being retrainable is so true. I never would have believed it myself before keto though. Take coffee for example. Before keto I had to have sugar in my coffee, loads of sugar. I greatly disliked the taste of straight coffee, I pulled such faces when trying it. Now, after 6mo on keto, I enjoy my coffee straight, though I like it even better with a tablespoon of heavy whipping cream.

I asked if I can do keto forever cuz I'm liking the feeling, I'm feeling more energetic and light compared to when I was consuming carbs that I was always tired and felt heavy, it's even hard to climb a stair. Now he just said, "it shouldn't be ketogenic diet cuz it's not a diet, it should be called ketogenic lifestyle cuz this is how human being are suppose to eat". Very well said. I’ve lost 137 lbs. this way 5 years ago over 1 year. Then when I reached my goal I gained back 60lbs. in 4 years. I decided to go back to eating this way and I’ve lost 50lbs. so far over the last 3 months. It’s so much easier than you’d think. I do give myself a treat of honey once or twice a week. But, my sugar is running about 75-90 and it was running about 150-190. My blood pressure was running 185/110 and is now around 117/75. My heart rate dropped from 85bpm at rest to 69bpm. I’ve got more energy. (And guys, your junk gets bigger as the fat isn’t covering it up) :) Y’all have a great day, God bless, and good luck!!!

As a home baker my home is full of every sweet imaginable and because I bake for a living I can’t get rid of it. Instead, I do the next best thing and every sweet that calls to me, I put out of reach. To get to the caramel and chocolates, I have to pull out the ladder and get into the very top of the cabinet. I can obviously still get it BUT it takes me a little longer to reach and the more time I have between the urge to eat something and actually putting it in my mouth, the more time there is to talk myself out of it by considering the benefits of staying on track with keto.

I am a keto cake decorator as well. (I don't make keto cakes I make regular ones just to clarify) I avoid sugar all day too! The struggle is real! lol I am down 90lbs in 7 months despite all the sugar around me. If I can do it anyone can! :)

Just think of the baking supplies as tools of the trade and condition yourself to think of them as being inedible assets... like a bank teller with cash. Having said that, I can't imagine a baker, or any cook for that matter, not being able to taste their baked goods at least for the sake of quality control.

Gosh I love this man. I love his straight talking linked to kindness and his understanding of how we humans tick, plus he really knows what he is talking about. No fuss, no beating about the bush, just right to the point. Thanks Dr Berry.

I loved the story towards end of this video, where ancient humans would find honey and eat as much as they could, then wake up from their 'sugar stupor' days later, get up, and continue the keto lifestyle. Great illustration. helpful tip: for those seeking benefits from hi-carb but nutrient dense foods luch as blueberries: just eat IN SEASON and local, because the body digests local foods (in tune with local season, sun, the weather that your body is exposed to) more efficiently. And only eat a handful, diluted with water or other foods so as not to cause that dreaded sugar spike. This concept is fairly new in western medicine views, but commonly understood in eastern medicine.
