A full tour on a cruise ship.... when you see what spaces there are that the passengers will never see, you immediately have videos for a whole year, Nick! But the fact remains that every ship, private or commercial, is always interesting. They all remain unique copies and you make it understandable for everyone.

About this time 11 years ago I was on holiday in Gurnard (where my mum was from) and she was taken very ill and rushed to intensive care and the Red Jet meant I got to spend maximum time with her before she died. Love that boat (not so much when it’s ploughing toward me at 35 knots and the Solent is busy mind you 😂)

Absolutely agree Sean. I've used these more times than I can care to remember and it's always been a pleasure travelling on these. Smooth running and very well priced for travelling over from the island and back especially with a car aswell. I will always use red funnel over wightlink as their services are all over the place either late cancelled or departs earlier than schedule.

Holy simoleons! Thrusters that will hold her in position in 45 knot crosswinds? Insane. I've spent a bit of time riding SF Bay Area high speed ferries. And diplomatically quizzing crew on technical details. As we know....curiosity is appreciated by crew...but often impedes their ability to get the job done and run a safe vessel. Mucho appreciado Nick. This project must have consumed a ton of time and the fact that you got this "get" is testament to your breadth of skills. I like the fact that it is all on one level being as I am stuck in a wheelchair. I wonder if anyone has converted something like this into a 40 meter super yacht, you certainly have the deck space to have amazing berthing and crew cabins and all the extra spaces for distance cruising, derate the engines, reduce by 2, who needs a 40 knot super yacht. I imagine properly configured you could get 3000 Nm range, we are seeing a lot of older hulls revamped and in some cases lengthened, sounds like a fun project.

Very cool vessel. 😎 I can see why they offered you to show her off. I know one thing, definitely do NOT want to get the descent into the engine room wrong! 😬 Yes, other commercial vessel tours would be interesting as well. Thanks for the tour. Nice work as usual!

Very interesting Nick, thanks for that. For a few years I used either the Hoverspeed Cats from Dover to Calais or the one to Boulogne every weekend to travel to Belgium before I moved here full time, great to see how their smaller sisters operate and what's under their skirts 😉 When those services were cancelled I went on to the Norfolk Line Dover to Dunkirk route and my little car stuck between all those HGVs great times! First time I took my wife to be to the UK was on the cat from Calais, Happy days :)

Thank you Nick, I really enjoyed this. I was in Sweden recently and used the hour long journey on the water ferries between Tappström and Klara Mälarstrand in Stockholm, a bit smaller and conventionally powered but you could sit outside if you wanted to (very steep stairs though). They also had bar/serveries for refreshments. All new to me and fun to ride, much better than a bus. If you want a fun "cruise ship" check out the Silja Line Ferries between Stockholm and Helsinki. They are full sized Cruise ships.

I have t used the red jets for a few years, I’m normally on the Wightlink car ferry from Fishbourne to Portsmouth because of work. They red jets are impressive when at sea. Thanks Nick for doing a tour of something I see a lot of. A cruise ship tour would be very interesting as I we have done a lot of cruises. What about a lifeboat. You could try asking if you could look over a Type 45 destroyer, a carrier would need a long video.

Hi Nick, brilliant and your description of Newtons 3rd law was spot on and just how I explain it( I work for HamiltonJet! We have just done a security boat in Spain that made over 62 knots. If you need anymore info on HamiltonJet, give mecs shout).

What an interesting boat, it would make a great live aboard, with all that space, not sure about the range, but plenty of speed.
