You are so right with knees being different. My right knee was replaced last fall and it was a breeze. Within a couple weeks I was off pain meds, by three weeks I was off a cane and at four weeks I was feeling great. Seven weeks after I had my right knee replaced, I had my left knee replaced. That was a totally different story. It took my left knee four months to feel as good as I did with my right knee at four weeks. Love your videos. Thanks so much for posting them.

I had a total knee replacement in 2016 and advice I was given by my surgeon was to get on a stationary bike every day for a few weeks before my surgery because it made healing so much easier. I had little pain and didn’t need much pain medicine. I was prepared-stocked kitchen, pre-prepared meals, shower seat, rails around the toilet seat. Preparation made things so much easier.

Had my right knee total replacement 4 month ago. Had my left knee done about 2.5 weeks ago. I feel like I'm doing much better this go round! Used a cane for a couple of weeks only... bend now at 80%, knee totally straight plus I go to physical therapy 2x per week. So odd that I literally had no pain with either surgery. Glad I was able to do this, I just wish I hadn't waited so long!!

I’m on week 8 of a right Total Knee Replacement. I totally recommend doing extensive research on it beforehand. I didn’t realize how much time, pain, & assistance I needed afterwards. I don’t regret but I believe I could have waited 5 or 10 years to do.

Could not agree more! I wish I’d have watched even more of B&B’s fantastic videos before this. The ones in the knee replacement playlists from their PT Assistants have so many good examples!

I had a right total knee replacement in 2018. The best advice I was given by the Ortho nurse was to take my pain meds on time and prior to exercising. Also my husband bought me a yoga strap which helped me get in and out of bed and the car. I held onto both ends of the strap and slung it over my foot so I could help my leg up onto the bed. One of the drs I worked for had both of his knees replaced and told me about the cryo ice machine which was a God send. Thanks so much for your awesome videos!

I completely agree with your prehab advice. When I was advised that I would need tkr in the future I began researching and found advice to strengthen leg and hip muscles. I worked out on resistance machine s at a gym for 3 years before the first surgery and to quote my surgeon, I had superior rehab results. I had terrific physical therapists who did rehab with me. I kept up the rehab routine (yes, there is homework) and gym workout and have no pain or problems with range of motion nearly 10 years later.

I didn’t have knee replacement but I had a total hip replacement. I was in physical therapy for 3 months prior to surgery. It made all the difference in the world. I was in physical therapy for 3 months post surgery. While in the hospital I saw a few people in the replacement ward refusing to get out of bed. The 2 important people in your life during this ordeal are your surgeon and physical therapist. Do the work and it pays off!!!

Very timely! I sent this to a friend who had knee replacement today! Also, I’m in the ER because I My foot got caught on a couch cover. I fell and landed on my knee! I asked the radiologist if he had a strap so I could move my leg easier to the table. He gave me a sheet. It REALLY helped! Thank you!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

My hubby just got his second knee replacement. We were ready for the pain he had on the first one. However, they used a new medication, called, "OnQ". It's a pump. He had ZERO pain, ZERO! It's designed to get the patient through the critical pain post surgery. What a game changer!

I'm a home care RN -i usually work nights+pt is sleeping I aggravated sciatica w too much bending+turning+lifting w my pt +my granddaughter I was in so much pain but I did your exercises w immediate relief 30yrs ago 1 set of exercises & I was good for 10 yrs- I was a nurse 30 yrs ago Now I'm back in pain every time I sit on a normal height chair & I do the exercises w relief- but it's ridiculous- so I'm using pillows on my extra firm sofa cushion for lumbar& for height - works great My pt family put a counter height dining room chair in my pt room and it's perfect- sit stand- no pain I'm getting one for my granddaughter home+ a sciatica cushion for car& my home- your exercises are firming my arms- but my animals think I want to play- so easier to get a chair TY BTW - I've had bone on bone for 20 yrs & do the flex extend exercise & try to keep a normal weight& w hot bath & Ibuprofen I'm good Is it ok that I'm bone on bone & not getting a knee replacement? I know the rheumatologist I worked w years ago did synvisc injections- but pts rarely got relief Ty

I need to have my second knee done and am praying it’s easier than the first one. I’m 53 and I struggled so much with pain even though my ROM and functional activity was outstanding but pain was an issue for 4 months. Still struggle with twinges of pain at 6 months even though i am very active. I really struggled when laying still as my knee always had this huge urge to move. That glider might do the trick.

I too have like a restless leg with my 3 week post op leg. Any advice???
@iTravelwithlaura2 жыл бұрын
@@lizlemos1963 Yes. For me it was just the worry that it would NEVER go away. And it does. Everyone says it does. I did always feels the need to move. One day I had my leg up in the air and yelled , "What do I do with this leg!! ahhh!!!" But at almost 5 months it was almost entirely gone. It is so slow you don't always notice it. Good luck! Keep moving it! I loved spinning on my stationary bike! It was the one thing that felt awesome.

Knee Glider looks great help. Would a slight spring on glider help both ways as you bend (& slide knee) back and forth? It would be a slower traction rather than loose like youre ice skating?

I’m two weeks post-out and already experienced a swelling setback after doing too many sessions/day. After more rest and meds for a couple days, I’m back on track. Despite multiple other surgeries, I became severely ill from one pain med and am trying to transition. Bob and Brad, what have you seen patients do when they struggle tolerating pain meds, despite taking them with Zofran? Love your videos!

they now have a less invasive total knee replacement, faster recovery, and less pain. Is that as good as the more invasive knee replacement? will it last as long? I,m 75 and both knees are bone on bone, left knee is the most painful one at this time. Osteoarthritis. Is it a good idea at this age to go through this type of surgery?

My surgeon told me it was like being stomped on by a dinosaur. I did exercises before my first tkr and lots of swimming before my second tkr. The second got some infection about 3 weeks after so I had to stop therapy for a while and the bending movement is not as good as the first. However glad I had them done but won’t kneel on them.

Try getting narcotics nowadays.

I know what ur saying ruby2zdy, after 2 hips and a new day ive been prescribed alot of narcotics. My pharmacists have been a nightmare to deal with. I dt know if they thought i was doing something shady or they thought i was addicted. At 66 and going to same pharmacy for 30 years youd think they wouldnt treat me like that. Fortunately im healed and dt nd those meds anymore.
