OMG I am so glad I found your channel. I started keto about 6 months ago and so far have lost 59lbs. I started at around 238 and am now at 179. I am 57 and was always super active so weight was never an issue. I was in the US Army from 1984-92. I could do 100 pushups in 2 minutes, run a 10k at a 7 minute pace, do one armed pullups, etc. Lupus and RA started taking a toll on me and after I retired I put on weight. This fantastic way of eating (I don't consider it a diet) has changed my life. Thanks for all your great information and for remembering those of us that are 50+!!!!!

Appreciate all you do Thomas. I’m about to turn 75. I’ve lost 40 lbs in 4 mos on keto. The last 2 mos doing omad. I eat only at noon and find I’m not hungry anymore. My metabolism seemed to slow down and I couldn’t lose those last 10 lbs. I’m now doing your shake/frapp recipe in morning to increase protein and total calories each day. I find I’m getting a little hungry later in day now. The more I eat , the more I’m hungry. Hopefully I’ll get over that. I love not needing to eat but understand I need more the nutrition.

9:16 - I'm a few months away from the double nickel, and I jumped right into keto and IF on May 15, 2021. I show a picture from Dec 11, 2020 and one from about the middle of June. I tell folks that the latter picture is 107kgs. I ask them to guess my Dec 11th weight. They guess at least 120kg PLUS! WOW! The real answer is 109kgs! The reduction of inflammation is incredible yet true! I started keto and IF precisely because I was "plateaued" for some seven months. The scale hadn't moved not one gram. Since May 15th, I am now 104kgs, but more importantly, I am uninflamed and healthy as a horse. Thanks for the vids, Thomas! 🤝

Hit the hay about 4 hours later. In 2014 Istarted experiencing neurological symptoms, such as numbness and tingling in my legs. At first, the doctors blamed these issues on my weight. However, after nine months of worsening symptoms, my doctors referred me to a neurologist. Right away, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). In December 2016,I suddenly lost the ability to control my legs during a shopping trip. It was terrifying. I had to call my husband for help getting home. Although I spent some time researching the keto diet, and came across a book on keto diet. After reading it, I decided to give it a try. Before, I always struggled to read long articles or look at spreadsheets. Within three weeks of starting keto, that was gone. And I had a lot more energy. during my first year on keto, I lost 60 pounds.

From my experience at 67 Thomas is missing the most important point which is to increase the percentage of animal protein over 50. Older people need twice as much protein to protect or gain muscle. If spread out well to three meals then it does not spike insulin. As a balance it makes sense to either add low protein and calorie days or do fasting days. While it cured my fatty liver and insulin resistance I lost a lot of muscle with my fatloss on keto. Only when I added more protein and started weight lifting I was able to build muscle. I also can't agree on the saturated fat. I do not add it but it's the best and healthiest fat.

In addition to electrolytes, B-1 vitamin is important, as well, since it's mostly found in bread. When I started with a multi-vitamin that has thiamine (B-1), I started to feel much better. Pork and nutritional yeast are sources, too.

Oh. My. Gosh! I am 53 and started Keto and intermittent fasting about a year ago. My legs starting aching so bad, especially at night but during the day too, I would sometimes roll around in bed actually crying. I thought maybe I had diabetes since my mom does but all the symptoms were not matching up. I’ve been taking magnesium for years so that’s probably not the main issue but finally figured out it was related to potassium! I finally learned what electrolytes are and have been working to increase them. Potassium alone made a big difference but has not completely cured the pain. I think I need to boost my electrolytes a lot more than I have been! Just posting this for confirmation for anyone else who may need it! Thanks to Thomas for confirming my own research into this serious and debilitating problem! I’m on it!

Last year paid the price by not supplementing electrolytes, added sea salt and potassium + magnesium supplements this year. Last year did too much almond flour and paid the price with pelvic joints pain from oxalate. Sofar successful this year with 20/4 fasting 7 days/week. 5 days of the week finishing the day with eggs + bacon, week ends chicken and salmon with full salad including nuts. Might have to switch bacon to vegetables omelet and morning instead of afternoon. Still need improvement for my winter months.

Thomas what if we’re intermittent fasting? What’s your best recommendation to stack our calories in the AM if someone is fasting thru the AM?
@David-mo5gj3 жыл бұрын
If you're eating your last meal, let's say at 2:00 or 3:00 p.m, then your fasting would stop at 7 or 8 a.m the next day. There you would have your 16-17 hours before your next meal. Intermittent fasting from what I understand is not eating for that amount of time, so it wouldn't matter when you stop eating as long as you allow 16 + hours afterward.
@sheepshearer27052 жыл бұрын
Yeah just change your schedule. Big breakfast early dinner. Nothing after sat 4 or 6. 9 am breakfast 3pm lunch there's 18/6. I prefer larger dinner. I can hold out all day but I do like the thought of looking forward to my dinner, then retire to social media then bed. It's not as Matt is suggesting, works for me. Only coffee and water in morning. Maybe I'll try the big breakfast thing. Late lunch. But I'm omad ATM.🙏

I just started back on Keto after abandoning it a year ago because my doctor frowned upon it plus I was at a stand still.The weight creeped back after stopping.Now that I restarted, I have dropped 8 pounds in less than 2 weeks.I do not eat until after 1pm ( usually break my fast with some protein) and I don't eat anything after 8pm .I sleep fine.Best part is that I can still drink my coffee, only now I use heavy cream instead of sugarfree creamers.I drink lots of water and have a sugarfree Gatorade for the electolytes.I'm gradually aiming for OMAD.I also want to attempt longer fasting periods ,possibly 24 to 36 hours.Still researching that.Thanks for all of your valuable info.😊❤

I’m a bit confused because Thomas recommends apple cider vinegar but that contains sodium benzoate. So how do I rectify this.

Interesting topic. I've jumped back on keto but not feeling as good as when I was younger on keto. I guess that's just aging. Anyway will push on.

Thomas says not to use sodium benzoate, which is found in vinegar. What about Apple cidar vinegar?

I only eat one meal at night that’s under 1500 calories under 10 carbs if that, but I’m up until 2:30 or 3:00 in the morning so eating at 6:00 to 7:00 is my everyday routine. Is this ok I’m 230 lbs obese and struggling evening is the only time I feel well enough to eat will I still lose weight. I’m only eating fish, crab, grass fed hamburger, veggies, eggs and bacon plus of course my fat. Avocado, butter and a small amount of HWC on salmon because I hate salmon, but it’s a fatty fish that I read is really good for you. I take magnesium/potassium, choline, omega 3, injectable vitamin B’s, D, and drink at least 8 8 ounce glasses of water with lemon and apple cider vinegar 2 tsp in the morning.

Hey Thomas! I purchased ULtima Replinsher from Thrive. I was avoiding it because I was afraid of the sugars, then I just re-read the ingredient label and realized it's sweetened only with stevia. So the question I think I already know the answer to is: okay to use with a Ketogenic lifestyle? (I am 59 btw and appreciate your scientific approach to your videos.)

Dr.Eric Berg,who also teams up with Thomas every so often (good team,btw) says the best keto sweeteners are stevia,monk fruit and erythitrol... He also gives an o.k for a few more. Check out his video on keto sweeteners

60 and over? How it just snuck up. I have always worked out and been active but I carried about ten extra pounds for decades. Those pounds are now gone and my stomach is looking great as is my body in general. I truly am feeling much better well into my 60s. Its important for me to stay healthy as I have four children, grandchildren and a much younger wife. Thanks for all if your help. Great channel

So you're lumping sweeteners like Stevia, monkfruit and allulose in with truly artificial sweeteners like aspartame, sucralose, etc?

58 a couple weeks ago, have been keto eating since late May and doing a 36 to 40 hour fast once a week with 20/4 IF the rest of the time. Seems a lot of what you are saying I can attest to just by how I feel. I am still fine tuning which is actually fun, I have dropped 26 lbs since 5/26, B/P is back to normal and my doc says my triglycerides are dropping (dad is type 2, DON'T want that). Pretty happy so far.
